World Cup of American Football

I like that idea. That, or as I mentioned earlier, a "World Cup" type of event that lasts an entire month. Preferably during the NFL offseason, so Hines Ward can save South Korea's team. :P

Therein lies the problem... there's no way guys would risk an NFL salary by playing in such a tournament, so you'd probably end up with a U.S. roster filled out by All-MAC 2nd Teamers. But even that would probably still be enough for the Americans to dominate for the next couple decades.

And perhaps get some guys some exposure to the NFL. If they want to risk it, they can. Couldn't be more dangerous than going to a nightclub with a loaded gun shoved down your pants, right?

Amazing work! Germany is awesome.

My only criticism is that I'm not too keen on the USA Helmet. Looks like something from the old AFL or USFL days.

Thanks! You know, USA was the hardest one for me to come up with. I didn't want to overdo the stars and stripes stuff, and I wanted to keep it simple, with a bit of a 'retro' feel-- since a lot of USA's uniforms play off that Old Glory theme. I could have gone more extravagant, but I was a bit lost as to what I should do with it. You have any ideas?

Awesome work OP.

One suggestion i have is for Australia you could just have the Kangaroo in gold on the helmet or have the southern cross stars on it in gold. Right now the kangaroo and the oz map looks a bit weird imo.

First thing you really need to do is research as to what countries actually compete in the Olympics. Right now you've got teams for Scotland and England, when in actuality Scotland England Wales and Northern Ireland compete in the Olympics as Great Britain.

Some of the designs are more successful than others, but over all there are to many monochrome designs (shirts and pants the smae colour) and to many designs clearly based on soccer uniforms for my taste. It's a good idea for a project but feel you could have pushed it further and created something truly unique rather than a series of modified soccer unis.

Perhaps trying some sort of eagle look? These are from MG Helmet's - some are real teams, some are concepts.

As I have stated previously, this would be more like a World Cup event-- so Wales, Scotland, Ireland, and England would all be competing seperately. Yes, I said the Olympics, mostly because it was the easiest to explain. Also, thanks for the input, but I hardly find "be more creative" useful constructive criticism. These aren't reimagined soccer uniforms. Sure, I used some for inspiration, but none are direct copies. Monochrome is popular across the globe-- which is why it is used so often in my set.

I thought about doing that, but I didn't want to be too literal, you know? I may do some experimenting though when I'm done with my next project. Thanks for the idea!

Gotta work on your flags there, Buster ;) haha. It's actually Ghana, not Ethiopia. And the last one is Wales. Big rugby nation, so I figured rugby stripes would be perfect. Loud and proud, just like the Welsh fans.

Agreed. Even though it's not tterribly helpful, a look at hte IFAF phot ogalleries would give you a base to work from. The real USA helmet is a very good update on the USA shield IMO.

I looked at those galleries, and they were hideous. The uniforms in IFAF look like something a high school team would wear (example: Germany). I wanted to modernize the uniforms and bring some freshness that a lot of soccer unis have. Didn't want them to look 'cheap' like the IFAF.

alot of these are simply great. some of the most creative jersey designs I've ever seen. Saying that there are still several improvements. On argentina and england, I would say you have to choose different colored numbers so theyre more legible. also with Argentina, the stripes dominating the uniform like that doesn't work for me. I would use the stripes just on select panels and use some other things like piping(sparingly) to keep it lively and not boring. This goes the same for Wales and Spain. You used gradients very well here too. But some could use some striping and piping to mix up a plain look. I would also pay attention more to the flag colors of the nations. Several of these of many traditional national colors missing and it just doesnt look right. Right now Brazil looks more like an Australian alternate than a Brazil uniform majorly due to the colors. With Norway I would match the flag striping with the jersey striping. On Mexico continuing the jersey stripes onto the pants would make the unifrom look more...uniform. Overall implementing some more pants and jersey stripes and piping would help the plainess of some concepts but this is still a great start. That dutch flag belt is genius.

Well if the project was for a Worldcup of Football you should have said that in the title, and on the descriptor you posted in the other thread! People would have understood you. If you say Olympics in the title, use the OLYMPIC LOGO at the top of a thread and mention OLYMPICS numerous times (but not WORLDCUP!) then people are NATURALLY going to pull you up if you've designed for countries that dont compete in it.

Some inspiration and none are direct copies... Argentina anyone?

Monochrome is popular, across the globe? Not in soccer it's not, especially not at the international level. It's not popular in the NFL either which is the pinacle of football. Sure it's used in college football but that's hardly global now is it.

As for not finding "be more creative" helpful, i never actually said that but now you mention it! I'm not about to comment on 24 odd concepts individually when essentially the only way they differ is in colour! The most creative you got was to put a different image sublimated in each design. The vast majority were solid colour designs, with no change up on say sleeves or shoulders etc, and the whole lot just looked bland in my opinion. The truth is you NEED to be more creative. If I was a gambling man I'd say that about as much time was spent on the WHOLE project as the designers of truly awesome concepts in here would spend on ONE.

You want a specific suggestion for how that could be achieved? Ok here goes, rather than just A.N. Other font for the numbers on each uni why not find a font that actually reflects the nation you're designing for?

Seriously you could push this SO much further than you have and I think the fact you've gotten all defensive about it proves you know that.

Thanks. All good feedback. I did commit a critical error in that I did most of these in the span of a few days-- by the end I had a "let's get it done" attitude. But I think the feedback I've gotten in this will help me improve upon them, and I think I will look at them tonight and get some edits out for you guys to look at. So make sure you come back and check it out. You too, 9erssteve! And just for you, I'll change the title.

LOTS OF EDITS

Took all of the C&C and modified 11 of the 24 uniforms. I thank you all sincerely for the help on this. Here's what changed:

- New logo. No longer an Olympic concept, but the World Cup of American Football, or WCAF.

- Argentina gets a new sunburst design instead of the oft-used vertical stripes. Sunburst inspired by the sun in the flag, which was recolored and featured on the helmet. Black outline for more legibility.

- Australia's helmet gets decluttered-- stars from the flag now encircle the kangaroo (merely coincidence that this looks like Davidson's awesome identities).

- Brazil was completely redone to feature the bright and bold blue and yellow from their flag. Green accents around the seal and numbers for country emphasis.

- Canada's sleeve leaves move up to the (now colored in) shoulders.

- I wanted to keep England clean and simple, but the stripes weren't doing it for me. Put St. George's cross on the front of the socks and left shoulder. Numbers received a gradient to become more legible.

- Clover was added to Ireland's helmet.

- Italy was redesigned entirely around their blue international jersey 'rule'. Stripes continue from the jersey to the pants-- stripes have a gold outline to give the uniform a little more of a 'rich' feel.

- Mexico now has mismatched socks that coordinate with the side stripes. Stripes carry down to the pants, and the stripes now feature a aztec imprint as well-- a nod to Mexican heritage.

- Brightened up the Russia coat of arms in the background of their uniform for more emphasis.

- South Korea felt a bit 'blah' to me. I decided to continue the wave/sun design from the flag to the numbers and sleeves. There is also a wave pattern on the bottom of the jersey and the stripe inset-- slightly darker white pinstripes. Let me know if you want it more clearly shown. I wanted to keep it subtle but noticeable.

- Spain was a bit too bright-- toned down the obnoxious red.

- USA gets a new 'retro' helmet and a cream color white, along with matching pant stripes. Wanted to keep the old Americana feel with the uniform.

C&C was extremely helpful before, keep it coming!

I'm a big fan of the changes for the US and Argentina. And I was also surprised at how great Mexico turned out based on the description...I didn't think I would like it at all.

For Australia, I think the black kangaroo gets lost on the dark shell; it blends to much.
