  1. Needs black number outlines a more complex pant stripe. Maybe a bit more gold, but the addition of the logos definitely helps on that front. I don't see the need for the swiping jaguar over the jaguar head (3 different logos is a bit much), but it works fine.
  2. Nope. I've never given it much thought. When this league first started as bad sketches in a notebook almost a decade ago, it was just teams and fictional players. I've thought about adding history, but it feels a bit too tedious keeping everything orderly to me. I imagine this league starting in the late 60s with a few teams in the northeast, before gradually expanding south and westward over the course of the next few decades like most leagues did. It would be great to add history to make the league that much more realistic, but idk if that'll happen or not in the future.
  3. I appreciate the kind words. It's nice to know that my work is enjoyed by others so much, and especially cool to know that I'm an inspiration to someone. A full look at the league as a whole is definitely in the works, though I'd like to get through all 40 teams before starting on it. I'd love to go for a full presentation-style guide of the league, though that may be a bit out of reach with my current skillset. I'm not nearly as good with presentation/background designs as I am with logos.
  4. That's a fair point. I wanted to include the classic champion 7 but it kinda clashes with the rest of the number font. I wanted something bold and classic, kinda like Michigan's font but with more angles. I might change the 7 if it bothers me in the future, but I'm happy with how the font looks right now. I fiddled a bit more with the striping and tried to simplify it down to two patterns total, but I much prefer the sunrise striping on the jersey on socks than the pants. It works ok when vertical, but I felt that it made the pattern feel overused. I also changed up the helmet to set LA apart from San Diego a bit more. White helmets for both of them didn't sit right with me. As for the LA monogram on the helmet, I'm not sure if I agree. The sun on its own, especially now on the teal helmet, isn't enough. On the white helmet, maybe. I feel that way too, but I'm unsure what to do about it. I like the idea of keeping the logo unaggressive and simple, as real-life Gray Jays are adorable and don't have much detail to them, but the logo does need some work. I plan to rework it in the future. I'm glad you noticed it! I wasn't exactly sure what it's called so I wasn't sure how to address it, but that loop element is common on higher-ranking officers in the Royal Navy. Though not as common in the US, I liked I enough to use it for San Diego, and it fits rather well. Thanks again for the C&C. You also seem to have something helpful to say and you've got some good ideas!
  5. I've cooked up another quick batch of updates. Many of these were close to done when I posted two weeks ago, so it wasn't too difficult to get these out so quick. Though I wouldn't expect another update for a good while. Anyways, here's what I got. Cleveland Buckeyes: Name changes over from Oaks, as Buckeyes are a much more familiar sight in Ohio. New package uses a roundel and a Buckeye leaf throughout, and uniforms are mostly the same. The shades of green and gold have been updates as well. Los Angeles Suns: Another quick name change. The Waves moniker just wasn't doing it for me, and the color scheme and uniform left me unhappy, so I went with a complete overhaul. Color scheme changes to turquoise and gold, with two alternating shades of gold reflecting the LA sunrise/sunset. Font comes in inline and bold variations for readability at small sizes. Ottawa Gray Jays: Shade of light gray is now much lighter, allowing for the uniforms to look less muddy while still retaining the Gray Jay's real-life color scheme. Uniforms are updated with a sleek collar design and modified cuff details. Font is updated as well. San Diego Admirals: Logo is redesigned, with a greater emphasis on a new, sleeker SD monogram. Badge utilizes chevrons and naval rank motifs. The laurel motif is now much more polished and balanced. Font is redesigned to be wider, and uniforms are updated. That's all I have for now. With midterms later this week and spring break next week, I may or may not be working on this project more. I honestly don't know. Made in Affinity Designer. C&C appreciated.
  6. The way I see it panning out, each team gets one alternate, throwback or otherwise. A handful of teams already have alternates, but the newer ones I other don't have a strong enough idea or work just fine without one. Usually alternates are just the same base jersey with a secondary color, but many of the color schemes don't really fit that idea, and making throwbacks for teams that don't really have any organized history feels a bit weird. I do plan to add some eventually, but it'll be a while before I get there for every team.
  7. That's something I've struggled with. A lot of my logos try to use multiple elements at once so shrinking them down is difficult sometimes. I've tried to make an effort to simplify some of my logos but most of the teams don't look right to me with simpler logos. I'll think about it. I went with the silver leaves for better color balance, but I can see contrast being an issue. I went back and forth between keeping numbers over the leaves, but something about the leaves felt perfect for a Canadian team with a 60s/70s aesthetic. The missing shoulder stripes I didn't even notice. Thanks for pointing that out. Another thing I had trouble with. I much prefer the Nike logo on the shoulders to anywhere else, and I really wanted to incorporate the full logo somehow. I might just shrink it down and call it a day. As for the wordmark, I made that font a loooong time ago and I too am not completely happy with it. I might rework it in the future. For the name, I just preferred how aviations sounds. Something about the name and the traditional look works really well to me. I'll consider dropping the helmet stripe, though I'm usually not a fan of strapless helmets, wings or no. The star is supposed to reflect the star on the bandanna of the logo, but you are definitely right that is doesn't match. I'll keep that in mind. As for the wordmarks, I'll be shrinking them down a peg or two. I'm not a fan of how small wordmarks usually are in football so the large size is mainly due to personal choice, but I definitely tend to go overboard on some teams. Anyways, thanks for the comments. You two always seem to have something constructive to say.
  8. After a long hiatus mostly caused by full-time college classes, I've finally come around with a new slew of updates. I'm in the middle of a bunch of overhauls for a number of teams, namely San Francisco, Montréal, Cleveland, and Los Angeles, as well as finishing up first looks for Kansas City, Vancouver, and Louisville. But for now, I have a bunch of updates prepared, some small, some complete overhauls. First, A new team, the Milwaukee Barons. I was inspired by an array of ideas, namely references to Milwaukee's industrial history, German/Bavarian heritage, and brewing industry. Combined together, the full logo resembles a soccer crest more than a football logo, but I honestly don't mind a bit. Uniforms use brick styling on the cream helmet, with blackletter fonts used throughout. Toronto Lakers: Deepened the colors for more contrast, updated the font, and made the uniforms much more traditional. The rope-pattern striping just wasn't working for me. Charlotte Aviators: Redesigned to emulate a pin or badge, colors are tweaked, uniforms are redesigned. Minnesota Evergreens: Complete overhaul. Name switches to Evergreens for a more classic yet still outdoorsy feel, Colors reflect pine trees and the lakes in Minnesota. Logo is the same idea as it was previously, an M with pine trees in the negative space topped off with the North Star. Dallas Outlaws: With Milwaukee switching to a cream helmet, I decided that Dallas didn't need one too. Cream is gone, with the uniforms now relying on a deep navy and copper. Atlanta Honeybees: Made the peach color more saturated and bold and changed up the uniforms to be a bit more modern. I'm still bent on finishing this series, however long that may take. Expect updates to be few and far between, with a bunch of new concepts at a time. School has made posting consistently next to impossible. That's all I have for now. Made in Affinity Designer. C&C appreciated.
  9. @Brave-Bird 08's Bengals concept is one of my favorites on these boards. He tried out the orange to white gradient and it looks pretty good. I would be fine if the bengals went for these, though with a tweak to the pants stripe.
  10. Doesn't look like an eagle to me. Looks more like arrow or raven. It's a much better logo, but the original looks much more like an eagle.
  11. A bit too late for that. I'm going with Ravens. I considered Huskies for a while, but ditched because I had trouble with a logo. I already have a mostly ready Vancouver concept, but it needs some touching up before I post it. I already have final names for every team as of now, and I would appreciate constructive thoughts or comments on the actual concepts more than random suggestions.
  12. I appreciate your thoughts. I cycled through a lot of ideas for the stripes, but the one I chose works the best with the color balance I'm going for. I wanted the turquoise and white to be the main focus, with navy acting as more of an accent color. I'm happy with what I've got right now, but I definitely appreciate the comment. Those are some solid ideas. I'll be going with Barons for Milwaukee, as it will have Bavarian/German influences but still leaves some room to explore. For Louisville, I don't have a final name yet. I like the Kings suggestion, (I actually had a team called the Louisville Kings long before this project was on the boards.) but since I already have a Monarchs team, that won't work very well. Right now Stallions, Racers, and Coopers are my top three favorites.
  13. Vancouver will mainly lean on purple and silver. Uniform-wise, they'll be completely different than the Baltimore Ravens. I'll be going with Barons for Milwaukee. I love the idea of German-inspired, industrial vibes a lot more than 'hrnng motorcycle manly tough guy'. It feels a lot more suitable for Milwaukee to me. I couldn't care less about what is and isn't considered manly. Besides, in this fictional league, there are plenty of female players, so manly team names are hardly even wanted.
  14. Hey guys, I've got some ideas down on Milwaukee and Louisville, but they're still far from ready right now. For now, I've got some updates to a bunch of teams along with an updated team/division alignment graphic. Atlanta Honeybees: The most notable change, of course, is the name. I found the whole 'Swarm' identity a bit too edgy for the mascot being a honeybee, so I switched it up to a softer, less aggressive package, now with an emphasis on peach. The uniforms are stripped down and more traditional, using the drop shadows from the logo on the numbers and wordmarks. Boston Mariners: What is this, the seventh update? I've lost track at this point, but I'm much more happy with the team than I've been in a long time. The logo now focuses on the lighthouse, steering (get it?) away from the ship wheel imagery. The color scheme shifts to a ocean turquoise and navy blue, and the wordmark is redesigned to feel a bit more nautical. The uniforms are completely redone, with shoulder stripes becoming the main focus. Nautical alphabet flags spell out 'BOSTON' in the pants stripe and back of the collar. Seattle Emeralds: I finally figured out how to use the space needle without it looking inconsistent with the rest of the logo. The wordmark is now blocky and angular to fit better with the rest of the package. Uniforms are updated accordingly, with minor tweaks to the striping. Washington Sentinels: I wasn't very happy with the old look, so I started over. The new logo is more simple, but is still heavy on the DC imagery. The pentagonal badge shape makes for a much more balanced logo in my opinion. The font is now a more standard block, with the occasional sharp edge. Uniforms are updated accordingly. Here's the updated list of teams and divisions. (It definitely doesn't hint at any potential future updates.) That's all for now. Made in Affinity Designer. C&C appreciated.
  15. I'm glad to hear your thoughts. Right now, for Milwaukee, I'm leaning towards the germanic theme with a black, blue, and cream color scheme. As for a name, I like the Barons suggestion but I feel like I could do better. For Louisville, I'm not quite as sure, but I like both the bourbon and derby influences. I'm leaning towards navy and a shimmery mustard gold for them, perhaps I'll throw in some reddish brown to further emphasize the bourbon themes. I like the suggestions of Thunder, Stallions, and Coopers, but I might throw in Brewers or Racers if I want something different. Thanks for the help everyone, it's great to know that people here have such good ideas and constructive thoughts.
  16. None that aren't an update or two away from perfection. There are a handful of teams I plan to update, but I don't know when that'll get done. It was mostly the geography of Mexico City and London that I was unhappy with.
  17. I'll relocate then. Any ideas for either Milwaukee and Louisville? With you being a Kentucky fan, you would probably know what works over there. Oh, If it turns out that nothing works, I'll keep the old concepts until I'm happy with something.
  18. Hey guys, I have a dilemma. I'm a bit unhappy with my teams in London and Mexico City. Both are obvious geographic outliers. Mexico City is a bit wacky as a team, despite my love of the color scheme and stingrays as a mascot. London just feels a bit too plain and boring to me. If I do switch the locations around, the cities that make the most sense geographically for my division alignment are Milwaukee and Louisville. So I have a decision to make. I can ditch London and Mexico for Louisville and Milwaukee or I can keep them and be unhappy with them. I'd love to hear y'all's thoughts on this decision, and I'd love to hear suggestions for Milwaukee and Louisville if I choose to switch. Also, I have made significant progress on Vancouver, and should have them and a few updates posted in the next few weeks. School has kept me busy this fall so my progress has slowed down a lot, but this series is certainly a priority. That's all for now.
  19. I'm not completely happy with it either, but it's by far the best name I've heard or thought of so far. The only other name I sort of like is Vulcans, but it feels too weird and hard to understand. Hammers, despite its awkwardness, is immediately recognizable and understandable with more obvious ties to the city. That's kinda the whole point. Polar bears are white and live in a white environment so I wanted to go with a lighter color like powder blue paired with white. I also feel that adding another color ruins the simplicity and classic look I'm going for. This current version is a darker, more royal shade than it used to be. I've tried a blue helmet, and I prefer the cream, but I will definitely admit that there is too much cream on the away combo. Here it is with blue pants, it should be less overwhelming.
  20. Hey guys, full-time college classes have kept me busy so I haven't had much time to design anything major, but I do have a bevy of updates for now. (None of these are on Instagram yet so it's back to rectangular images and basic logo slicks) Dallas Wranglers: I wasn't happy with the grey and red, so I smithed it around to Cowboys' royal blue, copper, and cowhide cream. Uniforms are more traditional, but helmet and pants have subtle gradients towards the bottom for extra flair. I went from being unhappy with Dallas to having them become one of my favorite designs. Denver Mountaineers: I haven't been happy with any logo for Denver so far, so I tried to simplify them. Colors are back to purple and grey, shield shape is taken from Colorado's state seal, and uniforms are more traditional. I'm starting to enjoy traditional uniforms a lot more. Anyway, I'm not sure how well the logo works, as it seems more like a hockey crest to me, but I couldn't figure out how to incorporate any more elements without them looking clunky and tacked on, and I love the purple and grey color scheme and the uniforms, so I don't mind. Pittsburgh Hammers: Iron is a clunky team name. I switched to Hammers and did a quick crossed-hammer/hypercycloid-y logo that suits Pittsburgh well. Uniforms take cues from the Penguins' striping. Font is designed to be classic and traditional, yet bold and strong. Las Vegas Gamblers: Uniforms are redesigned to be more traditional and less gaudy, but the colors still pop for that Vegas flair. New York Towers: Redesigned font is inspired by art-deco buildings, redesigned uniform striping now contains art-deco patterns. Buffalo Polar Bears: Redesigned font to be more blocky and sturdy, uniforms striping is less generic but still traditional. I have made some progress towards finishing Vancouver, but it needs a few more revisions before it's ready. Once again, I still plan to finish this series. It's been a long, up-and-down ride, but this project has grown me as a person and as a designer. I don't think I'll ever completely stop working on this project, as I also want to update existing teams, but for the most part, this series is drawing near the end. That's all I have for now. Made in Affinity Designer. C&C appreciated.
  21. Not a fan. If any team blue and red team could pull off a red home jersey, it's the Texans. They're red jersey with the red socks is already a great look. While I'd be open to the Bills' red helmet making a return, the red jersey is a massive downgrade from the blue.
  22. Hey guys, thought I'd get around to posting the updates that were over on my Instagram (link in signature) but not on here. posting on Instagram has made me realize that coming up with team explanations for names that work without an obvious local tie-in is pretty freaking hard (Oh yeah the images are designed specifically for Insta and they're square instead of my typical 4:3 rectangles so i'll put em in spoilers so they don't clutter up the screen) Baltimore Warriors: Minor tweaks to spacing and thickness, new ribbony font, thinner uniform stripes. Chicago Stars: Rounded the cross shape and toned down the red. Québec Lumiéres: Minor tweaks to badge, and the glowy stripes are more transparent for a more subtle shimmery effect. Also, I'm starting full-time dual enrollment classes next week, so I'll have more limited free time, and my posts here might become a lot more rare. I'm still committed to finishing and revising the rest of the teams, but it might be a long time before I can finish. Thanks for sticking around. I really appreciate all the ideas and critiques that have helped me get where I am. I wouldn't be half the designer I am today if it weren't for this forum. That's all for now. Made in Affinity Designer. C&C appreciated.
  23. I feel this way too. It's really not what the Titans should be doing, but it doesn't look bad, and certainly not as bad as they were when they were released. Maybe the Rams uniforms make everything look better just by comparison.
  24. I'm glad you're enjoying it! Progress on the remaining teams has faltered, but I'm still working on this series, updating teams as I go along and posting some teams on Instagram. I'm still set on finishing this series, but between my lack of progress and school coming up in a few weeks, it may be a while before the series is finished. [Also, I've got a design Instagram. Link in my signature. A few of my better looking teams are up there, along with a few updates I haven't posted yet.]
  25. Thanks for the feedback. Welcome to the forum! I'm glad you like my work so much. For Philly I tried using green a bit more sparingly because it sticks out, while still using enough that it's immediately noticeable. Affinity is amazing for designing logos. I've been using it for about 2 years and I find way easier to learn and master than illustrator. It is missing a few features that would be helpful like making brushes easier to use or a precise warping tool, and importing files is a bit finicky, but it's still a top-notch program. I'd highly recommend it if you're interested in designing, but it's a professional-grade program, so it may be too complex for beginner designers.
