  1. Ahoy gamers, it’s time to start another massive project for me to do when I need to take a break from my classwork. This time, I’m completely reorganizing the entire NCAA, (almost, I’ll explain below) reshaping the conference setup to something that probably makes sense to only me, and then redesigning the uniforms of every single team. I understand this is a herculean undertaking, but I’m willing to give it a try. I have no idea if I’ll end up anywhere close to finishing, heck I might up ditching the project after only a few teams, I don’t know. We’ll see. It’s about the journey, not the destination. Alrighty, time to jump into the messy part. I’m splitting the NCAA into 8 conferences of 16 teams each, adding up to a grand total of 128 teams. I know there’s currently 131 teams in Division 1-A and more to join soon, but I was severely unhappy with the 11-conference-132-setup I tried, so I decided to ditch a few schools to please the perfectionist goblin in my brain. The 3 schools I have removed are: James Madison University - They literally just joined. Last one in, first one out. University of Alabama-Birmingham - They kinda suck, and also didn’t have football for a bit. If they can’t decide if they want football, I don’t wanna deal with them. Umass Amherst - Umass is horrible at football. If anyone were to be upset about this, it’d be me, someone who lives in Massachusetts. I know people who went here, I doubt they’d even bat an eye if they got demoted out of Division 1. All of them largely got removed completely arbitrarily, but hey, at least my conferences are evenly balanced and geographical sound. For the conference alignments, I mostly wanted them to make sense geographically, as I dislike having conferences with obvious geographical outliers in most cases, so they’re pretty condensed. Conferences are also designed to account for school prestige, rivalries, (at least, the famous ones I’m aware of), and historical conference ties. The ones I decided to keep name-wise are based solely on the geography of the member schools, I don’t consider them to be more or less prestigious than other Group of 5 schools, I just think they fit better for what I went with. Full conference breakdown: In case the color coding isn’t clear, here’s a breakdown: I have no idea how scheduling would work, and I'm not nearly smart enough to figure it out, so I'm just not gonna bother. I imagine the CFP would include 12 teams, with seeds 1-6 being Power 5 conference winners + one Group of 5 3 conference winner, and seeds 7-12 being whichever remaining teams are worthy, I guess. Who knows. This is a concept series, not a legitimate proposal to the NCAA. As stated earlier, I’ll hopefully be redesigning every single team from this list. I don’t have super strict rules about how the uniforms will be constructed, especially since college has looser rules than the NFL, but I’m mainly gonna focus on making distinct, well-crafted looks for every team I can get to, taking into account history and stuff aside from personal ideas of what fits the school. Thus begins my long journey forward. Hopefully this doesn’t fall flat. Let the games begin. Made in Affinity designer. C&C appreciated.
  2. The color blocking of the 2010's set was the best application of the Jaguars' color scheme since the team was introduced. Plus, having something that leans more to the modern side suits them well. That can be salvaged. The gradient helmet and gratuitous number outline application were by far the worst aspects of the set. Everything else looked pretty solid. Take the color blocking, color balance, and modern feel of the 2010's set and mix it with the current set, and you've got a winner. That's what I tried with my redesign of the Jags. Shameless self-plug, logo borrowed from @Htown1141
  3. Only thing wrong with the black pants is that they're always paired with black socks imo. I generally don't like plain pants but it works with the lack of stripes and color blocking of the jersey really well. Slap the tapered stripes from the helmet onto these, use the purple socks to avoid the yoga pants look, and they'd be by far the Ravens' best combo. Hopefully the Browns go with orange pants for this game, that'd be an amazing color matchup.
  4. I saw players wearing them during practice, even pointed out to my friends the different striping compared to the 2001-2019 pants. I can scrub through photo galleries on the Pats' website and look for them if needed. Only a small amount of players were wearing them, which might indicate what you said, but they are real. Wouldn't be surprised if they get officially debuted in the future, but this season seems unlikely.
  5. I've personally seen the updated silver pants when I went to Patriots training camp in July, don't know if they'll ever be worn unfortunately but they definitely exist. They're far less mythical than the Bears orange pants.
  6. helluva performance by kicker Dustin Hopkins, 4 clutch field goals through immense pain is no joke, especially when it's the difference between a win and a loss. Seemed like a standup guy in the postgame interview too.
  7. Surname or not, a name is a name. Any player with Jr. or III on their name is wearing their legal name on their jersey. Nothing is requiring players to only use only their surname specifically and nothing more on the back of their jersey. The SFSS perspective is a load of baloney. Let players wear whatever name they want on their jersey, doesn't make a difference to me if that means a player wearing Smith or Ja. Smith III. A player isn't being a punk or going for attention for picking one over the other, it's just personal preference. That preference may be swayed by a variety of things (they may think it simply sounds cooler, nothing wrong with that at all) but I'm not gonna judge someone on how they choose to write out their own goshdarn name.
  8. That's 2 more amazing entries into a series that's quickly becoming one of my favorites. The elk horn striping looks awesome for Edmonton and the wheat stalk detailing for Saskatchewan is perfect. The way you've been balancing modernity with history throughout this series is enviable. Amazing job as always, can't wait to see the rest of the series!
  9. Atlanta vs. San Francisco is one of the best uni matchups I've seen in a long time. The Falcons should be wearing red helmets full time, it does wonders for the color balance and helps set them apart from all the other black teams in the league, especially in an age of alternate black helmets. I liked the throwback with black helmets but wasn't head-over-heels in love with them, but the red helmet is simply stunning.
  10. As a Pats fan and a diehard Mac apologist, Belichick should strongly consider rolling with Zappe if Mac continues to be mediocre upon his return. The offense has rolled a lot smoother since Zappe entered the picture. I'm sure it's mostly a matter of better playcalling but you can't deny how good Zappe has looked so far. He's very similar to Mac but with better decision making.
  11. Darius Slay Jr. has always gone with Slay Jr. on the back of his jersey (ever since he was drafted as far as I can tell). If anything, this goes against what you said earlier about tacking it on just to be cool. Slay has it on his jersey, yet prefers to go colloquially as just Slay. That being said, I don't see how your point means anything. Preference on nicknames or personal branding doesn't necessarily coincide with what's on the back of a player's jersey. It does in some cases (Ichiro being an example, though it's a bit more nuanced than simple preference) but not all the time, as Slay indicates. You don't see Ahmad 'Sauce' Gardner rocking Sauce on his nameplate, though if he did that'd be hilarious and I'd be 100% down for it. And yes, prefixes and suffixes are legally a part of one's name. It might not be necessary, but there's no reason to get upset over people putting their legal name on their jersey.
  12. perhaps -and I know this is a bit of a stretch - they do it because it's their name..?
  13. this Youngstown State helmet kicks ass and I will die on this hill. it's oversized beyond logic and campy as all hell, and I love it. if any other school tried this with any other logo I would absolutely hate it. this is a work of art.
  14. if the Pats sign Julio and Marvin Jones, Belichick will have enough Infinity Jones to snap half of the NFL out of existence
  15. Tennessee Vs. Alabama was an amazing game, both in terms of play and uniforms. I don't see why the Vols switched away from their checker-stripe pants this set was introduced with, but the classic stripes don't look bad by any means. I'd prefer they go back, just because it matches the helmet and more modern block font without being too garish, but they could look a lot worse. Alabama always looks amazing, though admittedly their classic look feels a bit boring to me. That being said, I'll always take classic boring over modern boring. (simple stripes, plain jerseys, helmet numbers, 2-3 combos as opposed to solid-color pants, more outlandish jersey stripes, wacky helmets, several mix-and-match combos plus horrible alternates).
  16. Loving both teams so far! Both teams look classy yet modern enough to stand out. I'm loving that number font for Calgary and all of the alternates are tastefully done. Excellent job so far like always, looking forward to how the rest of the series plays out!
  17. Throwbacks don't dilute a team's brand like any of these examples. They reinforce it, if anything. Celebrating a team's historical sets is a celebration of the brand's history, and is deservedly revered. Is it capitalizing of nostalgia? Of course, but it's perfectly reasonable to liven things up and make some extra money if you can look great in the process. Throwing in new, unrelated alternates every year or overhauling a brand just to jump on modern trends is a completely different can of worms. If you can't see the difference, you're just being cynical. To call this argument a straw man is a disrespect to scarecrows.
  18. Kansas State's entire set is just about perfect, swap out the purple for the dark royal the Cowboys used in the 70's and that's what Dallas should wear until the end of time. Maybe bring back the more classic block font with the serifs, I could go either way. Also note the new Riddell floating facemask helmet with the massive ventholes here, it doesn't look too bad if it's the same color as the helmet shell. Otherwise, I'm not a fan.
  19. I've been fulfilling my civic duty by disliking every comment I can find on YouTube that claims the Commies' all-black uniform looks good
  20. Thanks for the kind words! For San Antonio, it's a simple color swap. Green base, white or silver outlines depending on background color, like this. As for San Francisco, I'm probably sticking with Grizzlies as the team name. As much as I like the tree imagery, I see that it feels a bit disjointed and confusing, so I'll steer away from it for the most part. I think it's a fun addition to the branding for tertiary material, but it's not consistent enough with the Grizzlies moniker to warrant keeping it as part of the logo or uniform set as both of you pointed out. The uniforms would look fine without the patterning. If I really want to add a modern flair, I'll consider having the stripes terminate into claw marks. We'll see. I definitely appreciate the comments, glad y'all are helping me make my brandings the best they can be. Also, before I forget, I tweaked the uniforms of the Boston Mariners a bit, adding stripes to the sleeves to make it feel a bit more classic, plus I put together an 80's-style throwback. I'm trying to slowly sort out the history of the league, so I'm warming up to the idea of throwback alternates.
  21. Updated silver pants have been spotted in the style guide and have been worn by some players during practices. There is some possibility they get worn in-game, but as a Pats fan I'm not particularly hopeful.
  22. I've considered it, but it's a bit too on the nose and I can't really think of any imagery to use outside of the bridge itself, which is a bit too generic for my taste. It's gonna be Redwoods or Grizzlies.
  23. Ahoy gamers, it’s been a while. Looks like my goal to finish the league by the start of the school year has failed, but surprisingly I have enough free time to work on side projects. First up, I was unhappy with San Antonio. I liked the monogram and badge logo alright, but I wasn’t fond of the color scheme, shield logo, or uniforms at all. Thus, I completely redesigned the team, changing up the name from Marshals to Wranglers and shifting the color scheme to green and black. I recycled the logo from a rebrand I made for LongHorn Steakhouse (no joke, you can find it on my website) and added a custom word mark, barbed wire patterning, and some supporting logos. Uniforms utilize the barbed wire pattern in the pants and helmet striping. I’m much happier with the team now, though I might tweak the logos a bit more. I also made a crude mockup of a player in uniform just for fun a while back, just to see how well the uniforms translate from flat to in-person. The brown and orange team is my current placeholder for San Francisco. They’ll probably be called either the Redwoods or Grizzlies and emphasize redwood imagery, but I’m struggling with a logo at the moment, as per usual lmao That’s all for now. I still plan to finish San Francisco, update Jacksonville, and add alternate logos to about 10 other teams. After that, I think I’m just about done. Almost there. Made in Affinity Designer. C&C appreciated.
  24. (it's shameless self plug o'clock) I've posted it in this thread before and it's got some minor issues (numbers are way too small, for one) but this would be my ideal direction for the Titans: Keep the color blocking of the inaugural set, use sword shoulders tastefully, eliminate the armpit swords and gray tones, and emphasize Columbia blue.
  25. This might be an unpopular opinion, but that looks substantially worse on a modern template. The TV numbers are super smushed and the cuff striping isn't emphasized enough due to its small scale. You've proposed a more egregious example of the problem with the Panthers' current set, except with an obvious fix: Just do what they do now. I've never been super fond of cuff details because they get smushed by shoulder cuts and don't give the stripes any room to breathe. The Chief's switch from cuff stripes to sleeve stripes and moving the TV numbers to the shoulders instead of sleeve caps turned their look from a forgettable old-timey set to a classic uniform that fits perfectly with modern NFL aesthetics. (I meant to quote your sketch of the cuff striping on today's template, my bad)
