  1. To be fair, you literally always get "bring it back full-time" comments about throwback alts, so that's to be expected. As for the Banana Buffaslug...I don't see that every really coming back, due to how wildly unpopular it was and still is. At least the Fisherman, as polarizing as it is, has a notable fanbase. The Slug is...pretty universally not liked.
  2. Do you know how many NFL teams have had "throwbacks to losing eras"? Hell, it hasn't even stopped the Bucs themselves from throwing back to that era before now, anyways. Florida's kinda known for bright colors. Besides, this is the same league with multiple teams wearing dark green and black; weak contrast is not a problem exclusive to the Bucs' creamsicles, and I'd argue they actually pull it off extremely well, all things considered, with how they're blocked out. This could go for plenty of logos in sports, though? Like, the Red Sox' logo is literally just a pair of socks. The Orioles use a cartoony smiling bird. Hell, plenty of teams in the NFL just have goddamn letters for logos. "Ridiculous" is a very subjective term, especially when it comes to sports design. The numbers were NOT the only thing wrong with those dumpster fires of a uniform; basically everything they could have messed up, they messed up. Like, let's actually look at the jerseys the Bucs have worn over the years. Here's the creamsicles. The colors are unusual, sure; but the design is simple, traditional and cohesive; everything has a purpose to it, compliments each other really nicely and flows well. There's a reason this look has endured despite the...less than optimal performance they had while it was in active use. Here's the design they went to after that. It's different, sure, but it still holds to those same ideals; unique color, simple design. My only real qualm is the black on the stripe and the black socks kinda blending into the pewter pants too much, but otherwise this is an extremely solid update to their identity that deservedly has come back to being their main look. Now look at this. Besides the awful number font, this whole look just doesn't balance itself well. It's too pewter-heavy, making the orange that has been with the franchise since their inception into literally nothing but a barely-notable accent color. And the white version is just as terribly-balanced, if not even worse; Now, instead of too much of a color, there's too little of the team's main color on it. The only red here is on the pants stripe, the NOB and the socks, which makes it look like pewter is their main color and red is their secondary. They're a complete mess.
  3. I mean...they did T-shirt designs that looked like they were from a local store last time, too;
  4. Because they can and want to do so to pay tribute to the franchise that paved the way for them to even come into the league? Clearly, they're not that interested in what you're talking about if they're not...y'know...doing it.
  5. The only other way I could see the Avs having gone is doing a fauxback to like, the Denver Spurs or Colorado Gold Kings. The other options aren't very interesting, especially as a special alternate that could potentially be a one-season thing; what's going to sell better, a completely unique look or something that looks marginally different from the way the team normally looks? There's a reason the best-selling RR's last time were also the most unique from the primary look in some form or fashion; LA using purple and gold, Washington embracing a proper primary logo and breathing new life into an design that looks entirely different from their primary, Arizona and Anaheim going balls-to-the-wall mental. Meanwhile, looks that were too similar to the main jersey, like the Isles, struggled to sell.
  6. The foot logo doesn't make sense anymore without the context of the mascot since otherwise it doesn't really tie into any part of their current identity, the blue-burgundy swap is effectively just an alternate and last I recall, the wordmark jerseys weren't exceptionally popular among the fanbase.
  7. The Winnipeg Jets-formerly-known as the Atlanta Thrashers are using a design from the Arizona Coyotes-formerly-known as the Winnipeg Jets, the Habs are doing a goddamn Expos jersey, the Wild are using Stars jerseys with their logo on the front...and where you draw the line is the Avs using Colorado hockey jerseys as a Reverse Retro?
  8. Eh, I can see why they didn't; for one, the white might draw unfortunate ejaculate comparisons, and as for the orange... ...it definitely doesn't look good, either. I think the route they've gone with is the best option if they're recoloring it; the orange drop brings in that connection to the primary.
  9. That's not the Buffaslug, that's the Goathead. This is the Buffaslug;
  10. Well, it's had eggplant on merch before, as seen on this Mitchell and Ness hat, so that's another variant for the pile;
  11. Habs going powder pretty much confirms the Expos-related rumors. Meanwhile, Robopen and Pooh Bear fans stay winning;
  12. Honestly, I think the Canes going black at home is fine; there's a lot more teams that go red at home (Calgary, Chicago, Detroit, Florida, New Jersey, Montréal, Washington) than black at home (which is really just LA and Ottawa). Making themselves more distinct from the crowd is a good branding decision.
  13. OITGDNHL does a single trade have a novel of conditions attached to it lmfao
  14. The rumor for the Kings next RR was always a white counterpart of their last RR, wasn't it? This just lends more credence to that.
  15. I don't see the harm in retiring Numminen's number in Winnipeg, honestly. Plenty of franchises have retired numbers for players that won't get HOF calling but are still important to the fanbase and franchise. Besides, the only other franchise that'd have a claim to that kind of honor is Arizona, anyways; Teppo didn't play in either Dallas or Buffalo long enough to justify them retiring his number.
  16. Pike says this isn't their alternate, though. My guess is that it's a idea they had that leaked out after being rejected, that's happened with scrapped Flames jerseys before; Personally, I wouldn't be shocked if their alternate is the 2004 red jersey. That would be a perfect way to keep the black C around like the org wants while also keeping Blasty in the mix for merchandise purposes.
  17. Aren't there already discussions of the NFL potentially going up to 40 teams, at least among owners? All it'll take is one league to set the precedent of going beyond 32 and then all gloves are off.
  18. My biggest question, then, is that if they were so stumped for ideas in their own history, why not just do a Cougars-inspired fauxback? Vegas already set the precedent for using designs from past clubs the first go around, surely they could've just done that jersey in Hawks colors and called it a day. This feels like a bootleg version of their 75th anniversary jersey.
  19. The Blackhawks have historically done everything they can to quash any attempt at Milwaukee getting an NHL franchise. Add in Minnesota and it's even less likely, relocation or otherwise, since losing Wisconsin means they have only Iowa as an out-of-state market. Hell, both Minnesota and Chicago have a game in Milwaukee this season.
  20. Eh, I'm fine with it. It's a modernized version of the old WHL Wranglers' logo with a flame in it instead of a guy riding a horse to tie into their affiliation to the NHL team.
