The only time navy has ever really worked for the Oil is when they'd completely ditched orange altogether in favor of a less bright copper color; But combining navy with their bright orange just isn't quite going to work because the bright warm tone of the orange is such a dramatic contrast to the dark cold tone of the navy.

Plus, like, why wouldn't you want your team to wear what they were wearing when they had the best player in NHL history? Seriously, the only change that's really worked decently is the change to the navy and copper, and even still I'd prefer that replace the alt than become the new primary. If they have to do an orange jersey, you do the WHA throwback.

I like it, honestly; embracing a Snowbirds-based look is perfect for a team in Moose Jaw, and it's a major visual upgrade on the one they had before.

The problem is the Oilers and Islanders' royal looks are both tied to incredibly iconic teams and franchise legends; for both franchises, the navy stuff is mostly tied to failure, and extended periods of it as well. In terms of marketing, you're probably better off linking your guys to Wayne Gretzky and Paul Coffey instead of that time in your franchise history that you nearly :censored:ed off to Houston or Kansas City or that one Cup Finals run that died as soon as your goalie got injured. Besides, if we can have multiple red/black/white teams in the NHL, I think we can afford two royal blue/orange/white teams as well, especially since the striping designs are completely different and one team uses a shoulder yoke while the other doesn't.

From all insider accounts, the navy jersey is sticking around as the alternate, so it's definitely not that. And since the RR is similarly accounted by insiders to be gear jersey-based, the only way they'd be able to bring this royal blue jersey into the fold would be as a primary design.
