  1. I never said it was the best uniform in franchise history, or that it should be the basis of their main set. All I said was that they managed to strike a good balance of the colours. Aside from the bottom of the jersey meeting the pants, all the blue & burgundy elements are separated by white.
  2. I preferred this set. It was a nice combination of the Hornets & Jazz brands.
  3. Say what you want about these uniforms, but this is probably the best balance of blue, burgundy, and white that the Avs have ever had. Removing black & silver from the equation makes things a lot simpler.
  4. I know the Wild had almost no leverage considering their cap situation, but that still feels like an underwhelming return. Faber is a Minnesota kid and played for the Gophers the last couple years, so I guess they've gotten plenty of looks at him.
  5. A bit strange having the flames from the torch overlap with the border of the shield, but not go past the shape. The 6 stars representing the 6 QMJHL titles, plus the bigger star for the Memorial Cup championship is a nice touch though.
  6. Plus they used the first pick of the 2nd round that year to take Connor Timmins, who was a big piece of the Kuemper trade. It's also pretty cool that on their way to winning the Cup they knocked out Duchene, O'Reilly, and Barrie in consecutive rounds.
  7. Both teams in this matchup. I always forget that Dallas was still wearing this road uniform the year they won. At least they clinched the Cup in their green alts: This one is the opposite of Dallas's situation. The white uniform was great, but these should have never been anything more than third jerseys:
  8. The Utah Jazz rebranding & immediately admitting to their mistake has to be a record for the fastest a team has went from a 180 with their brand to a full 360 back to the old one beloved by fans. It got me thinking about instances where a team has made a drastic change to their colour scheme that actually stuck. There are tons of cases of teams trying to force a new brand(s) onto their fans before eventually returning to an old one (or something close to an old one): Astros going back to blue & orange after trying a navy/gold & brick/sand/black Brewers bringing back blue & yellow Blue Jays ditching the black & grey Padres returning to brown & yellow Pistons hopping on the teal bandwagon before going back to the classic colours Warriors getting rid of the power ranger and going back to blue & yellow Sixers ditching the black & gold AI era set Wizards playing Bullets dress up after trying the blue & gold look for a while Coyotes returning to the kachina set Sabres trying to be a black & red team before bringing back the classic colours/logos Islanders experimenting with the fisherman/navy then bringing back the original uniforms Canucks taking a couple detours before a return to royal & green Capitals going back to red, white, & blue with an updated wordmark logo By comparison I can only think of a few times where the 180 has stuck: Seattle Mariners - They've worn navy, teal, and silver for almost twice as long as blue & yellow. They do have a fauxback alternate, but it doesn't seem like there is a big push for them to go back to the old colours full time Tampa Bay Buccaneers - People have come around on the creamsicles as a once-in-a-while thing, but the 2 Super Bowls have cemented pewter & red as the definitive Bucs look Pittsburgh Penguins - It may have been a pandering move to switch from double blue to match the Steelers & Pirates, but the black & yellow isn't ever going anywhere I didn't look beyond the big 4 North American leagues, but can anyone think of other drastic rebrands that actually worked?
  9. The Oilers are most likely going back to the royal blue (not exactly a new jersey). I believe there have also been rumours of the Ducks going with orange primaries, and Carolina updating their red jerseys.
  10. I think they were ambitiously trying to create a 'global brand' that had mass appeal beyond the state of Utah. And the tech space loves the extreme minimalism when it comes to design, so I can see why they thought a black & white J note was the way to go.
  11. Tampa didn't capitalize enough during that first period. Keumper trying to make sure he gets a new contract with the Avs for next year.
  12. Toronto has announced that they will be adding seating to BMO Field in order to meet FIFA's minimum capacity requirements. It is going to go from 30,000 to just over 45,000, with the extra seats being added behind the goals. They've said these will be temporary, but they're leaving the door open to making them permanent if TFC thinks it's worth keeping them around. There's currently a new subway line planned for Toronto that will have Exhibition Place/BMO as one of the terminuses, but unfortunately it isn't supposed to be done until 2030.
  13. Colorado has looked dominant, but I'm not ready to write Tampa off just yet. They've always brought their best to closer they've gotten to elimination, and as the old cliche goes, you aren't in trouble until you lose at home. I still think the Avs win it, but I'd be very surprised if it doesn't go at least 6 games. Maybe that's just wishful thinking since this is too good of a matchup to be done so quickly.
  14. My high school's sports teams were called the Avalanche, and we also used burgundy & blue as our colours. When they decided to add an actual mascot, the students got to vote on the name and what it would be. I think our options were a snowman, a snowball, a snowflake, a St. Bernard, and a yeti. The yeti ended up winning the vote. We didn't live anywhere near mountains, so it made even less sense for us than it did Colorado.
  15. You forgot about the Raptors. My guess is the black & yellow will be around in some form for the next few years as it slowly gets phased out. The remixed purple jerseys will be alternates in 23-24, and maybe move to primary status the year after that, with one or two of the black/white/yellow being demoted to alternates.
  16. The alternate helmet could be navy for a Fearsome Foursome navy & white throwback.
  17. The fact that he couldn't even muster a "that's tough", "that's cold", or "that's fire" is a bad sign.
  18. I'd prefer having consumers who want to engage with my product but don't want to pay in the traditional sense over having an entire generation lose interest altogether. You at least know there is still some form of demand, you just have to pivot and find a new way to offer it. It took the music business a little while to figure it out, but they were able to get people paying for music again, which 15 years ago seemed impossible.
  19. The thing is, going with the name Angels is already a nod to the team playing in LA. If you translate "The California Angels" into Spanish it is literally "Los Angeles de California".
  20. Millennials have dealt with all the same things. Every generation has consumed sports differently than the one before it. People probably thought cable tv was going to be the end of people buying tickets. Sports eventually adapted by building more downtown venues surrounded by entertainment districts to enhance fan experiences. Kids might be on their phones while a game is on tv (and I'm sure plenty of Boomers do the same thing), but who's to say they aren't consuming/sharing sports content. Cable is expensive, but this is the most technologically proficient generation to-date. Finding ways to stream games for free isn't hard.
  21. I mean it's not some egg avatar posting a poll that got 12 votes. It's a fairly notable Vancouver sports show posing the question, and there were thousands of votes. Is it the absolute truth of the situation, no, but it gives you a general sense of how sports fans feel.
  22. The law of averages only works if it's a different team winning the Cup every year. In the 29 years since Montreal's last title only 14 different teams have won. Also if you expand the sample size to the last 38 years (including this year), Canadian teams have won 8 Cups. That works out to just over 20%.
  23. For those who don't subscribe to The Athletic, he essentially debunks all the theories for why it's gone on this long and concludes that's it's likely some sort of combination of factors. This poll is a good indicator that this whole narrative is more important to the media than it actually is to Canadian hockey fans.
  24. Bieber is a Leafs fan, so it makes sense that he would be oblivious to playoff games being scheduled past the first round.
  25. Including white elements on the bone jersey is probably the most egregious part of the uniform. Bone/cream/off-white can work if it is used as a replacement for white. This St. Louis Blues jersey is proof that the colour combo can work if executed correctly:
