Final exams are a thing, guys... combine that and feeling under the weather and it's delayed me until today.

First off, let's get to what the public thought. They voted as follows...

  1. dsaline97 — Dark | Light (Georgia Tech)
  2. marble21 — Dark | Light (Western Kentucky)
  3. davidmiller5 — Dark | Light (Southern Miss)
  4. HarperK — Dark | Light (Georgia Tech)
  5. mbannon92 — Dark | Light (Georgia Tech)

So, congratulations to dsaline (who was the clear #10, receiving ten first-place votes, seven more than any competitor) and the rest of the top five for being in the points!

From there, the committee voted. We liked the following entries in this order...

  1. mbannon92 — Dark | Light (Georgia Tech)
  2. HarperK — Dark | Light (Georgia Tech)
  3. davidmiller5 — Dark | Light (Southern Miss)
  4. benji — Dark | Light (Ohio)
  5. marble21 — Dark | Light (Western Kentucky)

Congratulations to mbannon92 here for taking the top prize!

That means that after Phase 1, our standings look like this...

  1. mbannon92 — 6
  2. HarperK — 6
  3. davidmiller5 — 6
  4. dsaline97 — 5
  5. marble21 — 5
  6. benji — 2

Thanks to everyone that competed! I'll post some feedback from the Council as to what we liked and what we didn't like in a little while — I'll get the Phase 2 thread up and sorted first though.

When attempting to discern our top five, the Committee discussed the following entries. We'd like to pass on our thoughts on what we liked and what we didn't about each design.

#1 — We felt like it was something the current Russell team might put together, however, we really liked the color choice, the way everything popped, and felt like the ideas were executed well.

#2 — We were big fans of the unity in the design with the three stripes and how clean everything was. However, the all-yellow light jersey was a detriment; we felt like it was just too much.

#3 — We felt like it was a clean and solid design but just couldn't get behind the color choice for Georgia Tech; navy instead of black would've worked better.

#7 — We were (obviously) a big fan of this. The colors were spot on, the honeycomb pattern was done in a really nice, clean, and tasteful way, and the use of both navy and gold were pluses. While not a traditional jersey font, we felt like Rockwell was a good choice; on the negative side, not having gold pants we felt was a mistake.

#9 — We really liked the simple approach here and how the shoulder stripes worked to show off our unique collar design. Red and white is a nice color combo in its own right, though with the slightly modern approach to the classic UCLA stripes, a bit more of a chance could've been taken with number font choice.

#11— We were big fans of the stripe consistency here and felt like everything was well-measured. It was a tasteful, yet modern design, and we felt everything complemented the jersey well; perhaps a little more work on the pants stripe could have helped, though.

#14 — We definitely liked the lack of white in the design here for the dark jersey and liked the way the sleeve stripes were executed. However, a lighter gold may have helped this concept out.

#15 — We really, really, really enjoyed the sleeve stripe choice here — classic and traditional, yet something different. If there was anywhere to improve here, it would've been on the number font; we liked the effort but felt the execution fell just short.

#19 — We liked the no-white approach here and the black logo on a black helmet but all things considered, it was mostly a fill-tool approach.

#20 — We really enjoyed the modern take here, yet in a classy way. The pants stripe was a big winner among the Committee, as was the honeycomb fade on the helmet and the number font choice. Ultimately though, the design lost points for color balance — perhaps a lighter gold or more white would've helped tie the design together.

#23 — We liked the color scheme choice (as we did with #1) and the throwback feel to the design. However, perhaps a risk or two more could've been taken — and not matching up the sleeve, helmet, and pants stripes was a bit of a pet peeve.

Thanks to everyone for submitting and I hope our feedback's helpful to y'all moving forward!
