AnPheitseog
(from here at sportslogos.net)Ive saw the cap being sold plenty, but I've never saw it used personally be it in spring training or during batting practice at all. Am I missing something, or has it been released but just never worn.Google images quickly gives me nothingthanks all Formerly known as DiePerske
hormone
The problem is, the set it matches is worn on Sundays...which are almost 100% day games...which no BP is taken. I believe it's official, but never used. Someone here with style guide access can clarify that. The problem then would be, it wouldn't match the athletic gold on the bp jerseys. There are a few teams with "alternate" bp designs that I don't recall being worn...Braves "a" throwback look, Rays light blue, etc.

OffCenteredScoreboard
are you sure BP is not held during day games?
phutmasterflex
are you sure BP is not held during day games? Not often. Most times if BP does happen during a day game, it's the road team. Go A's!
TruColor
Where is that one coming from anyway? I've got everything (I think) BP-related for the Pirates in 2014, and am not finding that one anywhere.

TruColor
I'm starting to think that it may have been a fashion cap.
WSU151
I'm starting to think that it may have been a fashion cap.Doesn't have the NE-flag on the side though. And it's grouped in with the other official BP hats. The kid's version has the "MLB Authentic" label on the brim. Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half. Sc8b
It is still listed on the official Pirates store but I can't find any pictures of a player wearing one...http://shop.mlb.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=707608&cp=1452363.1452860
The Mojo Maniac
It's probably as simple as the players not liking it because it didn't match the BP jersey, and they didn't want to desecrate the throwback alt pullover jerseys with a strange cap like that. ScoffingYayap
I thought they broke them out for a game or two, like the White Sox did with their batterman hat. My WorkFull MLB Concept (Plus Expos)The Modern Philadelphia Athletics
FiddySicks
It's an official cap, but it simply hasn't been used yet. They were supposed to use it last year for a game or two with the throwback Sunday alts, but it just never transpired. New Era and MLB are still trying to work out just how they want to use these BP alts, and I expect there to be a more solid schedule for the 2015 season. This is per New Era, BTW. The Mojo Maniac
The White Sox' alt BP caps looked solid, but the one thing that would make me like the Diamond Era caps more for game use is if their outlines weren't raised. It makes for awkward-looking partitions in the logos when viewed from certain distances or angles. That being said, I don't think the Pirates' alt BP cap is fit for game use. It obviously doesn't work with the regular unis, and I feel like the pirate-head with the 70s pullovers would be too much of a departure from the iconic "P." Others, however, need to be used in games more often (see: Marlins, Rays, D-Backs) From San Berdoo to Kalamazoo.
