pcgd
Now we're talking!I do hope however that a ban of this length would require a second positive test within 3 days or something. But 50 games...makes you think twice100 for the second.Lifetime for the third.Works for me.http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2050587

CaolinaJoe
Never gonna happen. The players gave into public pressure last time. They won't cut their own throats with this, not unless they get something in return. "It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of thepress. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom ofspeech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given usthe freedom to demonstrate. Mac the Knife
Sorry, still not hard enough.A year for first offense.Lifetime for second. No need for a third.
WJMorris3
Why not lifetime ban for a first offense? That would clean the game up REAL quick.
NJTank
You are going to have a tough enough time getting the players to accept this proposal a 1 strike and you out policy would never fly. www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com

pcgd
This is pretty similar to the NFL policy correct?Roughly a 1/4 to a 1/3 of the season lost first offense...
See Red
This is pretty similar to the NFL policy correct?Roughly a 1/4 to a 1/3 of the season lost first offense... I believe so, but I think the NFL is 2nd strike and you're out... as opposed to 3rd. I could be wrong, though
quantum
One strike and you're out is too tough of a penalty. There are occasions where the athlete doesn't know a product contains a banned substance. I think this new proposal is good enough. "One of my concerns is shysters show up and take advantage of people's good will and generosity". dwertman
I dont care for baseball, but i think this is a step in the right direction for them.Bud needed to do somethin severe to get John McCain and congress off his back.It will never fly though, allthough it was encouraging to hear some of them say "If thats what it takes im all for it" but im afraid they will be a minority Kings Cross AFC -BIP, Winnipeg Falcons - TNFF, St. Louis Archers - MLF

It probably only a diversion by MLB. Bud knows the players union will never buy this. But, it may buy him enough time till something that should really matter to Congress pops up and the get back to the REAL business of the people. winghaz
I agree with Caolina. The players' union -- probably the most powerful union in the U.S. -- won't put up with it. No matter how good it is for the game.
