Does anybody have a low-profile 5950? I love everything about the 5950 except for the way it makes your head look huge. Are the low-profile ones just as nice as the regular?

i currently own a minnesota wild hat by the franchise (twins enterprise). black with the wild logo on front, and a small wild woodmark on the back. i cannot find pictures, but i have been wearing it for about a year now and its quite possibly the best hat i have ever worn.

now, the problem is--i will more than likely have to find a new hat soon. i wear it far too often.

They also make a few NHL hats...but the few teams they have avaliable are HARD to get.

yeah i have a black Dallas Stars franchise with the alternate texas logo on the back. they also have a green version which i see is still available at lids.com where i ordered mine from. hmm, if anyone is a blues, sabres, or stars fan you might to to go and nab the few they have left.

My only gripe is that I wear a size large in the franchise and my bosox and stars hats fit absolutely perfect while my steelers hat is just a bit too tight so i don't wear it often. They are all supposedly the same size too. I don't like ordering stuff from online that may or may not fit but i didn't want to pass the hat up (i hate reebok hat) and had a previously good experience since the Stars hat fit so well. Now i'll never be able to find the nfl ones again.

I have one low profile 5950 and it's probably my favorite hat. All the features/benefits of the regular, but I just like the look/fit better.

They're really hard to find though - at least I think. I got my White Sox low profile a few years back but haven't seen others since.

I just bought a 5950 Troy home game hat, and it is honestly the best fitting new hat that I have ever bought. Even though I had to tug on the sweatband to loosen it up a little bit, it soon began feeling just right. It feels so great right now.

The wool in the 5950s shrinks. The trick is to buy them a size or two too big. At the store, I usually want to be able to fit two fingers between the hat and either side of my head.

The first thing I do is run the crown of the cap -- inside and out -- under water in the sink. It needs to get good and soaked. Then I just put it on my head and shape it w/ my hands. It ends up somewhere between the high crown of a brand new hat and the low-profile look. It shrinks as it dries, but cos I buy it big it ends up fitting comfortably and looking relaxed.

Thanks for the trick. I usually buy hats in my actual size, which is 7 1/2, but I like it to be a fairly loose 7 1/2. I just tried your trick amare. It seems to be working pretty well.

Also, I just noticed my new 5950 Troy hat is 70% wool, 30% acrylic, so it shouldn't shrink real bad. If only the game tonight went this good. We lost to Auburn 4-3.

I am sure most people know about Lids but they have the best selection of hats on the web...at least the Franchise brand. I own a couple of Franchise hats and really won't buy anything else. I like the low profile brands and the Franchise just fits how I like from the first time I put it on. The only thing I have a problem with is I wear an XL and at times they don't all seem to fit exacally the same. I have to try a couple on to get the right size.

The best way I found to break in my 59Fiftys is to wear it in the shower for 5 minutes - same basic effect as Amare's technique, and it molds to your head. Hope for a sunny day, and let it dry out while on your head, shaped as you want it. You may need to do it 2 or 3 times, but I got rid of the high crown on my 59Fiftys this way and they kept the shape I wanted.

I'm a 5950 purist also but I had to buy a 7 1/2 Red Sox hat for my big noggin. If I don't wear it for a while, it shrinks, and for about the first 20 minutes of wearing it I feel like I'm getting a lobotomy with an impact hammer.

Though my 7 3/8 Portland Sea Dogs hat fits fine *shrug*.

It's an art, not a science. But I don't want it to be too snug. Two fingertips touching both sides of your head should be able to fit easily w/in the band of the cap.

Another way to think of it is that a fresh cap should be big enough to fit comfortably over your ears. I kinda grab the cap w/ my thumbs on the inside and pull it down over my ears. Do it that way and when it shrinks up the fit will be snug but comfortable.
