The Padres aquired 3B Joe Randa from the Reds today in exchange for farmhands and they also aquired SP Sidney Ponson for 1B Phil Nevin, pending Nevin waives his no trade clause.

What do you guys think? I certainley think the Padres are playoff material now.

The orioles dont have any pitchers to begin with and this would lose even another one. so i dunno. all i want is the padres to keep losing so the dodgers can come back and win the division. That awful NL West. i want the winner of the div to be under .500. . all i know is that the orioles need some pitchers. and SD's getting a pretty good pither. not a great one, but a good one.

PHILADELPHIA -- Still in uniform after Saturday's game, Phil Nevin said he'd heard nothing from Padres management or from his agent about a proposed trade that would send him to Baltimore in exchange for starter Sidney Ponson.

"No one's talked to me yet," Nevin said, having gone 1-for-3 in a 2-0 loss to the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. "It's not solely my decision. If something like that happened, obviously there are a lot of things to think about.

"I have a home out there [in San Diego]. It's a lot closer to PETCO [Park] than Camden [Yards]."

Nevin has contractual veto power over the deal. Reportedly, it's the only thing holding up the deal.

"I've earned this right to be in this spot," he said. "No one's talked to me. In fact, if this is the case, I wish things like this would remain private. You've got more people involved than yourself and the other player. Somebody gets hurt. It's a business, and this is how things go.

"If and when somebody talks to me, I'll let you know."

Rest of Story

the Reds are such a mess. If they trade Dunn... :cursing:

that could happen. The A's want him, and theyre willing to give up Blanton to get him. Hopefully they arent dumb enough to trade Blanton though.

uh yeah . Not after losing 7 games in a row theyre not. Even with Randa, they'll still be 1st or second in a weak ass division.

If the Pads are playoff material, then what the fluff was that I saw out at CBP on Saturday? (had seats 3 rows up from the fence in RF for that game...about 2 sections over from where Chase Utley deposited that BP fastball that Astascio tried to sneak past him  )....

They really didn't impress me that much...heck, a few of my buds went to one of the games at Shea when they were in and had the same thing to say...

Ponson and Randa won't help them much...but to be honest, someone's gonna win the West by default...and they might be lucky enough to do it....
