Holley back on Around the Horn

Redlands, CA

Recommended Posts

ATH also has reporters and Dallas and Denver, can't forget those great cities. Yesterday was the first time I'd see it in about 6 months. Good to see Holley back on, but without his dredlocks and facial hair, he looks like he's 12! Oh, and any ATH without Mariotti and Platsche is a beautiful thing!

ESPN will be getting a competitior soon. OLN which now carries the NHL and possibly Thursday and Saturday NFL Games next year has the best chance because it's a national network, with games and huge amounts of money behind it.

OLN? Are you serious? OLN's a fringe network, and even with the NHL they always will be. NO WAY do they get another 'major' league sports TV deal.

Not if they get the NFL. Comcast apparently is willing to throw a ton of money to get NFL games for 2006. At that point they might change name completely. Although technically they are no longer the Outdoor Life Network, just OLN.

Hmmm...20 years ago, people said the EXACT same things about ESPN...then they landed the Sunday Night NFL contract in 1987.

Apparently, no, obviously you have no idea how big Comcast's pockets are...if they throw plenty of cash at the NFL, why would the NFL say no?

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Exactly, all the NFL sees is dollar signs. Tags gas already hinted that the NFL would be willing to go to OLN. If OLN lands the NFL they will immediatly become the best competitior ESPN has ever faced. Just look at what the NFL did for ESPN or FOX.

The reason i ask is because it makes me wonder if maybe ESPN is looking to move its facilities to a city larger than Bristol Connecticut

You evidently have never been to Bristol, CT...

That place they got there is MASSIVE! I got lost when I interned there a couple years ago.

I worked in Bristol until a few months ago and I am pretty sure they are going to make a big expansion in the near future. They are not going anywhere.

I know that Reali is both the host of Around the Horn and "Stat Boy" on PTI and im wondering, are both of those shows filmed in Washington D.C?

Um, obviously. lol

well im not sure. Look at Around the Horn. They have guys that are in Los Angeles, Boston, New York City, and Chicago. The reason i ask is because it makes me wonder if maybe ESPN is looking to move its facilities to a city larger than Bristol Connecticut

<_<

Don't be talkin' bad about Bristol. Just...don't...do...it.

Rome would have kicked Chris eerrr Jim's ass if he wasn't trying to keep things on set professional.

professional, you call calling a professional athlete by the wrong name several times, looking to start something professional. Jim Rome is an ass, I disagree with half the things he says, the way he keeps repeating the same sentence over and over but uses different words every time just annoys the hell out of me. I thought he was over on TV after that last word show went off of FSN. Guess I was wrong.

I find everyone on around the horn annoying, to the point where I find the show unwatchable. They all prepare their arguments before the show so when they are talking about a topic they all use the same rythm of speaking. It is so annoying.

Plus I hate when sportswriters try to make themselves into a story and don't just cover the game.

The tone of this thread makes me wonder why so many "sportswriters spouting off sports opinions" shows exist.

It was fine when these things were relegated to Sunday mornings on ESPN, like some sort of sports counterpart to the talking head political talk shows on the major broadcast networks.

Then programming geniuses came to the conclusion that people wanted to see MORE of this drivel? Face it - these Around the Horn, PTI, Jim Rome is Burning, and their ilk - it's filler! For every interesting interview, thoughtful insight, or moment of entertainment, you get heaps upon heaps of nothingness. Wastes of time.

Use the time to show actual highlights, or actual sports, as opposed to guys trying to BE the news, as opposed to covering the news.

ESPN has turned guys arguing over sports into their mid-day programming. It's like they took ESPN Radio, and put it on TV. All this schtick is not good. I like Pardon the Interruption, Kornheiser and Wilbon are legendary Washington Post columnists with great reputations in this area. ATH is a joke, I mean who in the hell is Tony Reali? How can your show be taken serious when your host is the sideshow of the more popular show following it. Rome Is Burning is just horrible. I was sorry to see it return after its brief hiatus. Rome is an insufferable jerk and thinks he's the story. Turn to ESPN2 and you've got ESPN Hollywood. Never watched, never will, but we don't need ET on ESPN. I don't give a damn about what Shaq does on his day off, or about Carmelo Anthony's love life, and to have A.C. Slater (I know his name is Mario Lopez, but he will ALWAYS be Slater!) as a co-host, who was the genius behind that. And don't get me started on Stephen A. Smith, or as I like to call him, the Black Jim Rome. I don't like to criticize my fellow "brothas," but s there anyone who enjoys the sound of his own voice more that Mr. Smith?
