Latest Trade Rumor from GothamBaseball.com:

Mets get: Manny Ramirez

O's get: Julio Lugo, Kris Benson, Brian Bannister, Victor Diaz

Red Sox get: Miguel Tejada

Devil Rays get: Aaron Heilman, Kaz Matsui

http://www.gothambaseball.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1924

GothamBaseball.com has updated that trade to the following...

Mets would send Lastings Milledge, Anderson Hernandez, Aaron Heilman and Xavier Nady to Tampa Bay for Lugo, Huff and Baez. New York would then send Lugo, Huff, Kris Benson and Cliff Floyd to Baltimore for Tejada, and then send Tejada to the Red Sox for Manny Ramirez.

In the end:

Mets-Manny Ramirez(BOS), Danys Baez(TB)

D-Rays-Lastings Milledge(NYM), Anderson Hernandez(NYM), Aaron Heilman(NYM), Xavier Nady(NYM)

O's-Hulio Lugo(TB), Kris Benson(NYM), Cliff Floyd(NYM), Aubrey Huff (TB)

Sox-Miguel Tejada(BAL)

I think the Mets give way too much up in this trade (six players) to just get an aging clown known as Manny Ramirez and a nothing-special closer who won't have any closing job, but will be used as a possible set-up man. And now, the Mets get rid of SIX players and none of whom is Mr. Kazuo Matsui! Absolutely ridiculous. I'm not loving it. I really don't like this trade at all. Also, the likeliness of this going through is 1% at most. That's the best news of the whole deal.

Wait, so Aubrey Huff just kinda dissapears into thin air? In this situation he ends up in with the Mets, and thatd be a huge pickup for them.

No, sorry I forgot to include him. If you kept reading, the Mets would trade him to the Orioles. I fixed it now.

Now if teh Mets get Huff tehn Id be willing to give up both Benson and Heilman but the Mets need to get more or include less for me to want it.

From the Star Ledger:

Mets deal for Ramirez won't be easy

Friday, December 30, 2005

BY DAN GRAZIANO

Star-Ledger Staff

The Mets are paying close attention to the Miguel Tejada situation in Baltimore, but not because they're interested in the disgruntled Orioles shortstop.

See, the Mets remain interested in bringing Boston Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez to Queens. And if Boston and Baltimore are talking about a Ramirez-Tejada deal, the Mets want to be involved.

According to two baseball officials familiar with the talks, the Mets have been involved in several complicated trade discussions with the hope of landing Ramirez. Both officials said the large, complex deals still required a lot of work, but that the Mets were keeping their toe in the water in case they still had a chance to add Ramirez to their 2006 lineup.

One of the possibilities would involve a multi-team deal in which Mets pitcher Kris Benson would end up in Baltimore, Tejada in Boston and Ramirez with the Mets (with a variety of other players and cash bouncing around in the deal as well). The Orioles like Benson and, earlier this off-season, offered reliever Jorge Julio for him. The Mets have been looking to trade him and certainly would do so if it meant bringing in Ramirez for right field.

The White Sox are apparently trying to jump in on the Tejada sweepstakes...the following is from mlbtraderumors.com:

A source close to a major sports representation firm has tipped me off to two offers the White Sox currently have on the table for shortstop Miguel Tejada.

Two formal proposals have been given to the Orioles by Sox GM Kenny Williams.  Williams set a drop dead date of December 31st given other clubs' outstanding offers for Tejada.

Option 1: Jose Contreras, Juan Uribe, and one minor league prospect for Tejada.

Option 2: Brandon McCarthy, Juan Uribe, 20 year-old southpaw Alex Woodson, and another minor leaguer for Tejada.  In this scenario, the White Sox would get cash back from the Orioles in the third and fourth years of Tejada's contract.

This is starting to get interesting.. I smell something brewing between the Orioles and Red Sox..

The Pirates are close to a deal with Burnitz. Burnitz was going to sign with Baltimore and was expected to be the opening day LF.

Pirates near deal with outfielder Burnitz

Contract could be richest for free agent in franchise history

Tuesday, January 03, 2006

By Dejan Kovacevic, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Pirates are close to a deal to sign free-agent outfielder Jeromy Burnitz. The sides have agreed to most aspects of a contract, a source close to the negotiations said yesterday, but some details remain, including Burnitz passing a physical. It is not known precisely what the other details are, but the source said they were not likely to prevent an agreement, which could be achieved in the next day or two.

This poses a few questions

What happened to the "Done" deal with the O's last week?

What does this mean in the sense of a possible big time trade?

Where does this leave Sammy Sosa who was reported to be close to a deal with the Buccos?

:therock: Hmmmm.....
