Hmmm. That link though is of my work, and someone saying it looks A LOT like the new CPHL Stampede logo. SO, they aren't directly using my property, just having someone mimic it.

What do I do here? Is that technically illegal? Or just kinda retardedly flattering?

I hate these people so much.

The side buffaloes are similar in shape and whatnot, but the leading buffaloes are quite different, and the styistic treatment of the fur is different throughout. I don't know that you have beef, but you could always threaten them and se what they do. They might give in, or they might call your bluff and you can consult an IP theft lawyer to see if you have rights in this case.

They're probably copied, but to know that they copied and to prove that they copied are two separate things entirely.

Perhaps you can take solace in the fact that the team is choosing to use a wicked-bad wordmark. What is this, the WHA in 1980?

I would say that the fact that the same guy is involved and the logos are so similar that you may have a legit gripe.

Not sure how much money these people have to shake out of them but there has to be some intellectual rights getting stomped on here. Changing a logo by a certain percentage is a fallacy according to a lawyer we work with. Determining a percentage is quite subjective. The real damage comes into play when it is obvious that a protected design is so obviously being stolen.

I think they are "borrowing" an awful lot from your previous design. The fact that this guy had some relationship with both teams, and both team logos are so simliar in concept, I think means you may have a legit gripe.

If you think they have some rather deep pockets to pick you may ask a copyright / trademark lawyer to look into it a bit...if only for a small fee. Maybe they will tell you it isn't worth it but you'd be surprised what a stern letter on legal letterhead can do! We had a similar incident here and we got the offenders to cease and desist rather quickly!

If nothing else I would take solice in knowing your design kicks the butt out of the other design! HA!

So the same company gets a logo, doesn't pay for it, and then comes out with something very similar themselves?

Andrew is right, they've changed the lead buffalo a fair bit, and added a snort, and some different fur on al three.

Makes you wonder how much they paid to get this done.

But stealing a VW and taking it to West Coast Customs for the Pimp My Ride experience doesn't mean it's your car.

Stuff 'em, send them a letter.

Oh, and I've got a site.

I was looking around again, and their lead buffalo looks an awful lot like one of the early drafts of the logo you did. I'd look into some legal action and see if it's worth pursuing.
