American Flags on MLB caps

Can someone confirm for me:

1) If the Blue Jays are forced to wear an American flag on their caps for "special" occasions, as MLB has recently done.

2) If so, why they don't allow they to wear at Canadian flag.

Having them wear an American flag makes no sense. I know I'd be annoyed if the Flyers wore a Canadian flag honoring Canada. SO what gives??

because we have suck a kick ass flag and the canadian flag is so so ?

i dont know. i guess since 90% of the teams are american based and cost effective to only have one set of flags made. and these flag are only used on american holidays.

Canada totally wins the "national anthem" category, though.

And yeah, it's pretty much that every holiday or event they are used for are American ones. Don't the Blue Jays wear special Canadian stuff on July 1 anyway? (insert Canada jersey joke here)

They used to, but they haven't for the past few years.

In fact, this is the first year in I think the past 3 seasons that they're playing at home on Canada Day. It's about time.

I think mainly they do it out of respect and support. I remember both them and the Expos wore an American flag on their hats in support after 9/11. Also, i think they may also (i could be wrong) wear the flag on the 4th because their are a lot of American players on the team. Personally id like to see all of the teams wear the Canadian flag on their hats on Canada day as well. :flagcanada:

All other teams wearing a flag for one team?

I do, however, think MLB should stop fu*king with the Jays and let them play at home on Canada Day. I wouldn't mind having the opposing team wear the Maple Leaf out of respect. The MLB really screws this up every year.

You know, just outta respect for the fact that there are two countries that have MLB teams. Maybee not totally realistic, but i think itd be so bad ass to see the yanks with the Maple Leaf on the hat. But thats just me

If I remember correctly, didn't the Jays wear a red version of their then alternate blue cap on Canada Day. I remember thinking how cool they were especially with the flag on the side. I think they should show respect to Canada Day (even if they are on the road) and have the flag on their hat. I dont know how a red hat with the current logo would look, but I wouldnt mind them just sticking the flag on either of the two they are using now.

Great post JQK.

I have recently learned that the Jays were being screwed by the owners of the SkyDome in past seasons... they would book the Dome for July 1st every year before the MLB Schedule came out. All these years I was blaming MLB when it was the crummy Dome owners.

But now that the Jays actually own the stadium you should see a home game on July 1 every year (in fact the Jays are at home on every Canadian holiday this season... last season they were on the road for each of these days).

If I recall correctly the Blue Jays offered to wear the US flag on the cap out of respect, although I'm not sure if they'd have a choice in the end... this was also the case when they played God Bless America at the Dome from 2001-2003.

JQK has a great idea, ask the opposing team to wear a Canadian flag at the dome on July 1st

see my post above... jays couldn't play at home on july 1st because of the old skydome owners.

at least 14 american teams play on the road on july 4th every year.

Good news to hear that they will be in town on the major Canadian holidays. Those are big gate days, I used to go on Canada Day each year they played at home, it's nice to have an early game those days, you head into the Dome, watch the game, then are able to go home before it's dark.

If they do play on some of those holidays (I haven't seen the schedule) those will be some good gate weekends. It's frustrated me so much the past few years when the long weekend gets here, and the Jays are out of town. During hte summer, it's only them and the Argos, there is no other competition. They'd make a killing in attendance. Like, two years ago, Montreal vs. Toronto in San Juan on Canada Day? stick that game in Toronto and you'd have huge ticket sales.

It's looking up more each day for the Blue Jays. finally we have owners who are willing to spend some money to field a competitive team, they own the stadium so there is finally some control over what happens. All that time cheering for a losing team is paying off

If MLB is so interested in pushing the game internationally, why not have players wear the flag of their home country?

If not all the time, then how about designating one day in the season as "International Day" to honor all the countries that provide players?

Along these same lines...

I've always thought it would cool if MLB players wore the flag of their native countries. Instead of them all wearing an American flag, it would be interesting to see the diversity of MLB with native country patches on the jersey sleeve. In the upcoming or current (depending on when this is read) year with the World Baseball Classic going on, it seems like a good marketing tool.

I just can't remember...Did the Expos and Blue Jays wear the American flag on their uniforms in 2001 after 9/11 like the rest of the teams did?

or a week since teams don't play every single day
