Forget DC put one in the Meadowlands.

Ahhh, the Garden State Bowl. Such memories. Maybe for Part Deux, Zach Braff can do the coin toss.

Why stop at 31? Just add one more and make it a 64 team Championship field!

Bah, what's the point of having a tournament (even 8 teams) anyway to decide a true national champion? College football might as go all the way and call each game a tie. Here's hoping for a mid-major cinderella!

That's I think they should do too.

College football needs a playoff system, this is too much. Although I am for a bowl that features the 2 worst college football team in div-one.

Problem is that the NCAA and its schools see approximately $180 million a year in revenue from the bowls. To scrap that system, or to even subjugate (sp?) it in favor of a playoff, they'd have to get someone to offer ASTROBUCKS (think Super Bowl money - $200 to $300 million a year) to pursuade them to institute a playoff system.

Face it, all these bowl games are for one thing and one thing only:  To puff up the pride of the host cities' Chambers of Commerce and tourism bureaus.

Correction: All these bowl games serve three purposes.

* One is "to puff up the pride of the host cities' Chambers of Commerce and tourism bureaus".

* Another is to allow university presidents, athletic directors and sports boosters to say, "Hey! Our football team qualified for a bowl game! Hooray for us!"

* The last is to line the pockets of 62 universities with money for participating in a meaningless post-season game.

As for the Canadian municipality of Toronto landing a college football bowl game featuring American teams, it shouldn't come as a shock. Bear in mind that the NCAA was ready to ship post-season American college football overseas ten years ago. If the organizers of the Haka Bowl hadn't failed to meet the deadline to provide a financial guarantee for the participating teams, said game would have taken place in Auckland, New Zealand's Eden Park on December 27, 1996. The game, initially recommended for certification by the NCAA Special Events Committee, was to have pitted the third-place teams from the Pac-10 and Western Athletic Conferences. If memory serves me, that would have set up a Stanford-San Diego State clash in the Haka Bowl.
