The Bucks' logo will also undergo a facelift

So in other words, nothing more complicated than taking the paint bucket tool to it like all the "DUUUURRRR WHAT IF THE PLAYOFF TEAMS SWITCHED COLORS?!?!?" dorks in the Concepts folder?

Bango got a makeover as well, moving from the popular cartoon to a more menacing depiction of an eight-point white tail buck on a triangular background.

IT'S A DEER CAUGHT IN HIGHLIGHTS.

We've probably already seen it. Just take the old one, and make it red and green. See also: Nuggets, Jazz, Pistons.

Multiple sources have told Saucy Stadium Secrets that the Bucks will unveil new uniforms next season, ditching the purple, green and silver color palette for a green, red and white scheme that more closely resembles the threads that the team wore during the early 1980s.

The Bucks' logo will also undergo a facelift, but insiders say we will not see a return to the original "Bango'' buck, which spun a basketball on its hoof while wearing a green sweater emblazoned with the letter "B.''

The Bucks used forest green, red and white as their official colors from their inception in 1968 through the 1987-'88 season, but red was fazed out beginning in 1985. In the late 1980s, the team used various shades of green - forest, kelly and lime - along with a white accent.

After celebrating their 25th anniversary during the 1992-'93 season, the Bucks modernized their look by changing their uniforms and logo to incorporate the purple and silver along with hunter green. Bango got a makeover as well, moving from the popular cartoon to a more menacing depiction of an eight-point white tail buck on a triangular background.

The history section of the team's official media guide indicates that the change was made to "carry the organization through the 1990's and into the next century as an impactful and memorable identifier."

Impactful?

In their first season in purple, 1993-'94, the Bucks posted a 20-62 record, a mark that remains the worst in franchise history. The team missed the playoffs for the first five years in the new uniforms, then made the post-season in five out of six seasons from 1998-2004.

In all, the Bucks finished higher than fourth place in the standings twice and made the playoffs six times during the 13 seasons they wore purple. Facing elimination Wednesday night at the Palace of Auburn Hills, the Bucks bumbled to an embarrassing 122-93 defeat that gave Detroit a 4-1 victory in the best-of-seven series.

If that was the Bucks' final game in purple, perhaps it was fitting. Given the developments in basketball and fashion over the past 13 years, a change is definitely in order.

Let's face it... as far as uniform's and design goes, the Bucks are a train wreck!

The only good thing was Bango because atleast it was fun and identifiable. The current Buck is stupid. It's just a Buck looking at me. Sure, maybe it is seductive in a "I wish we were alone in the woods sort of way", but it's still is lifeless. :P

It's just a Buck! Not a fighting Buck, an angry Buck, just a Buck. It is almost as useless as the Orioles just having a bird sit on there hat. Who cares? Atleast the fun cartooney logos are identifiable, but a logo of an animal just sitting there is lame. What if the Pistons just had a "piston" just lying there doing nothing? LAME

And the color scheme's and fonts aren't great either. They need to start from scratch. That bulky current Buck font has to go and the green on green 80's look is bad too. And I won't even mention what a bad idea red and green is (Barcelona Dragons anyone?)

Let's learn from our mistkaes and not just revisit old bad uniform design because it is "retro" and that somehow means good. Bad retro is still bad! And let's not do the retro thing with new modern design because that is a train wreck too (Pistons anyone? Did we need three versions of a logo to arrive at the old lgo/uniform that no one liked in the first place?)

Stop the insanity!! Good design needs to happen here. Milwaukee was a socialist city at one point, can't the people rise up and make change? :)

Line of the day. :D

I have a bigger problem with the Bucks' alternate logo, though. Looks like somebody shot and mounted the primary logo.

They need an overhaul, but I think red and forest green could work very well. They'd be the only team to do it.

The Pistons identity is much better now than it was ten years ago.

Come on, have you ever seen the Bucks' old unis? They looked pretty decent, IMO. Recall that these are the colors that they won a championship in; that probably played into their decision to go back to them. Seems like teams are more likely to go retro if they've had success with an old combination of hues (like the Pistons and Sonics) but I could be wrong.

Alright, I'll give you this: their logo from the Bad Boys days sucked major balls. Totally uninspired. But, although I miss the horse, their new logo isn't half bad. It looks pretty clean, and unlike the Bad Boys-era logo, they use their unique wordmark font in it. And if you're implying that nobody liked the old uniforms, then you must be joking! People LOVED the red, white, and blue, and still do (right, Motowners?).

I had no idea the buck's name was Bango. To me, that makes him one of the best-named mascot in sports, behind only Otto the Orange and Mr. Met.

I also think a switch away from the purple and green is a terrific idea. While the Bucks had some terrific years in those uniforms, including a conference final appearance, it seems like the TJ Ford/Andrew Bogut/Michael Redd nucleus is just coming into its own.

I think the Maverick's early 2000's overhaul helped draw attention to the upcoming Finley/Nash/Nowitzki team, and I feel like a change for the Bucks might do the same. It certainly worked for the Nuggets, first-round woes nonwithstanding.

Of course, one could look at the Rockets' success in their Quake uniforms as an immediate counterpoint, but I think there should be a Steve Francis exception.

People rag on the new Rockets uniforms, but they're not THAT bad. I mean, their old jersey was an angry missile on pinstripes. At least they're back in red. I'd prefer some more yellow in there as a callback to the championship years, and maybe a circular logo as well (but still including the cool HR), but it could be worse.

I have a friend who worked at the NBA when the Rockets made that uniform, it was designed by Chinese designers (which is why they look like the Chinese national team) precisely BECAUSE they wanted to sell jerseys in China and make a mint. They figured with Yao Ming they had a great inroads to over a Billion NBA fans, so in a way they basically sold there design to the highest bidder.

SO the long and short of it is I am pretty sure the Rockets DON'T CARE if you as a Rocket fan like them or not and the fact that they somewhat resemble the old Rocket Championship years colors is probably just an ancillary benefit.

I agree. Although I prefer the current Sonics look, I did really like the forest/brick/copper color scheme of their 90's unis. I would imagine the Bucks could have a similar tone (hopefully without the cartoon type).
