Ouch, where the Red Bulls THAT desperite (sp?) for a coach. Bruce does'nt know what players to put in at the right time.

Um, Arena IS a good coach. Hell he won the MLS Cup twice and took the U.S. to the quarterfinals in the World Cup.

If that's not a good resume, I don't know what is.

I once had a car but I crashed it. I once had a guitar but I smashed it. I once, wait where am I going with this?

Your right. I was just thinking more about recent events. I forgot that he won 2 MLS Cups. My bad.

By recent evens, do you mean one bad game? Yes the World cup wasn't too successful for the USA. But if you look back it was basically only one bad game, against the Czech Rep. The USA tied Italy being a man down for almost half the game, and they played well against Ghana, but ended up being unlucky not to get a result.

Thats just me personally, I really don't think he was a good coach in the world cup. I don't think he made the right descions at the right times. He'll do ok in NY though.

Bruce Arena has proven himself to be a fine MLS coach. There is a substantial gulf in the quality of MLS play vs. global competition. Arena did okay - certainly better than a lot of managers of other nations - in global competition over the last several years, so I have every confidence he'll be a success again in MLS.

Now ask yourself, "Which is easier to win games in?"

Sweet Jesus People!

It's still hard to win in MLS when you only put a single striker on the field...

[Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008

Personally, I find this to be disappointing. Just like many of the U.S.' top players, one of their best coaching prospects opts to stay in the U.S. instead of testing his talents in the more challenging European leagues.

I like the MLS and I'm glad we have a domestic league. But someone like Arena, who has already conquered the MLS and developed a positive reputation on the world stage, really should test himself somewhere like England, where he might make a fine coach in their middle divisions.

Of course, my argument is based only on Arena's career potential. This is all tossed out the window if this move is because his family wants to stay closer to home. He is from Brooklyn, after all.

I'm guessing that his stock went down a bit after the World Cup exit, and that the offers for coaching spots in the Euro leagues weren't rolling in at the moment.

If he manages to turn RBNY into something that's not horrible, then I think he'll get a chance to move up the ladder.
