Krona Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 i dont recall the original paint job (the first in the nfl) looking like this...can anyone shed some light?
Gothamite Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Yes.They wore it one year - 1949. I think you can be excused for not remembering it. Better pictures here:http://www.helmethut.com/rams49.htmlI actually prefer it to the horns they currently wear. More visually interesting, and I like them curling over the ear hole. Spearhead Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Frankly, I like this version better than the one used now. Looks tougher and more accurate. I'm not sure but I believe Angelo State uses this version:Also North Carolina wore these in the 1950s:
Gothamite Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 That white helmet looks goofy in the B&W photos - looks like he's wearing a jester cap or something.Still, I love those horns. They were a stock pattern for a while, but they're still all class and worlds better than the nondescript swooshes St. Louis wears. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
Krona Posted September 14, 2006 Author Posted September 14, 2006 I dont know. a few different things run through my head before horns when i see these.....tootsie rolls? small intestines? cat poop?
STL FANATIC Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 I prefer the smooth horns myself. It's not like either one looks especially life like, and I find the indentions distracting.I could go either way on where the curve wraps around, but I think how it is now is nice. The_Admiral Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 Yeah, I'm not sold. The Los Angeles Rams had the best helmets, before the post-SB dark-n-fade in St. Louis. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
cranium Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 I kind of like it going under the earhole. The '49 helmet looks like Devil's horns in the player pictures. They lack "heft".
Chazberg Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 The current design is way better; that thing looks like a giant turd. charles-noerenberg.com
BlueSky Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 The current ones look better IMO but they desperately need a thin white outline on the horns. That would look great.
tBBP Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 The current ones look better IMO but they desperately need a thin white outline on the horns. That would look great. Well you've already seen my St. Louis Rams concept; how's that work for you? *Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. || dribbble || Behance ||
leedsunited Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 The current design is way better; that thing looks like a giant turd. Well, that visual just ruined it for me.
powersurge Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 looks like a big yellow elephant penis.......so much for the visual
rock55choc Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 CSU Ram Head Logo This is a bit off topic, yet still somewhat related to the original post ... if the NFL's Rams use the two-color horns logo on their helmets, why is it that Colorado State is allowed to also use the exact same design on their helmets, only changing the colors. I would think the pro team would have the helmet design trademarked. This has always bothered me. Further, I really think if CSU would use the Ram head shown in the above link on their helmets, then @ least they could set themselves apart and be unique.
winghaz Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 If you've ever seen a bighorn ram, then you'd notice the similarity between that and the current Rams helmet design.
Gothamite Posted September 14, 2006 Posted September 14, 2006 I have, actually. Magnificent animal. And his horns weren't perfectly smooth. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
