Alabama Gets Their Man...So Does Miami

West Virginia HC Rich Rodriguez is now the new head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Link y'all

Miami assisstant coach Randy Shannon has been promoted to head coach.

Not really suprised that Rodriguez is leaving, even though I feel bad for West VA and the fact that they were willing to do anything to keep the guy, and they failed.

Meanwhile, Miami made a real good decision. They get to keep the foundation of that defense (lest we forget, Miami did have one of the best defenses in the country), and now they have a coach that they didn't have to look far for, and hopefully he can do as good a job as his predecessors (and not turn it into Thug U)

The Hurricanes settled for a no name oh my Miami your days of being a power a ova! That's what happens when you go gangsta. Keep up the good work Coker did and soon nobody will care about U and more.

Hopefully Rich Rodriguez will run the 4-wide spread option just like Bear Bryant did back in the day.

And hopefully Randy Shannon will instill the values of the Miami of old: Wearing camo off the plane, getting in fights in tunnels, and the time honored Miami tradition of pay-for-play. Not the wimpy street brawls, bad rap music, and logo stomping of the last regime.

The Hurricanes always 'settle' for a no name. They don't make big splashes with their coaching hires.

I could have sworn that Rich Rodriguez planned to be at West Virginia as long as they would have him...Hmm, I guess plans can change quickly when someone throws 12 million bucks in your face. :D

I think Miami would have done well with Mike Shula son of the Coach would have been nice

Why would Miami recycle an old washed up coach? If I were a Miami fan id much rather have a guy whos been there and who knows the system than some dude who couldnt get the job done elsewhere.

Yeah, he sure did throw a tirade last week, on a radio program, about some un-named source needing to be taken to task for saying he was going to Alabama. Just another schmo now in my eyes.

Quite wrong on this one, Tank. Shannon has one of the nations better defensive units, ranked fifth this year, but I will admit he does have problems making in-game adjustments that make a differnce. He also is very good at recruiting Miami-Dade and Broward counties for talent, but has issues getting them into the private schoo. I think getting Mike Leach from Texas Tech would have been more beneficial to the program because of the lack of offensive pop. It's a good hire for a guy that has been there from back in the Jimmy Johnson era.

Now who do they take as an offensive coordinator?

Does anyone else think that the NCAA should set a date sometime after the national championship game for teams to start making offers and selecting head coaches (or at least if they are going to hire someone already outside of the current coaching staff). I just think its a huge distraction for a team at the end of the season and right before bowls to hear rumors that their coach may leave (especially BC since there coach is moving to a different team inside the same division of the same conference). It's not really fair to the program that's coach is being rumored (since they don't really have a say). I didn't really like how Miami fired Coker before the bowl game. But at the same time that's the teams own decision to hurt themselves before a bowl, not that Miami really cares about the MPC Computers bowl.

I agree coaches jumping ship while their teams are in Bowls is wrong

As for Miami I guess they cant pay players any more that means then it will really go downhill

I think R. Shannon will be a good deal for UM. He has been there thru the good, then down, and the climb back up to the NC games and now the drop-off in wins.

R.R turning down Alabama was no shock. It's a school with great upside and downside. Win and beat Auburn and you're a god. Win some games and lose to Auburn, You'll be shopping for real estate very soon.

They do it before bowls, at this time of year, because of the signing of recruits. The bowl money is already guaranteed, they are looking to the future. That way who ever they bring in 1.) may be able to steal some guys from where he is coming from 2.) get guys who may have liked him but not his previous school.

Follow the benjamins and you'll understand.

The longer a school waits to hire a coach, the more it hurts both them and the school they're hiring a coach away from in recruiting.

Firing/hiring coaches before the bowls arrive benefits all parties. The school hiring a new coach can get started in recruiting players that fit the coach's mold, and the school who just had a coach hired away from them can get their search of a coach in gear so they don't fall too far behind in recruiting.

How would BC feel if their coach resigned to coach at another place in mid-January instead of mid-December?
