There was a point in the 70s where fighting was a part of the NBA, and, it really still is a part of the NBA. But moreso in the NHL. I mean come on, the guy hit the dude from behind and the dude didn't get up, yet they call for Melo's head for a sissy half punch half slap. Gotta love it. Sure he ran into the goalpost but that happens it's why they tear away from the position, so players don't get hurt. There was no reason to come up and sucker punch Spachek. I think 9 games is appropriate, then again I also thought the Anthony got to harsh of a suspension in the NBA. This is a PROFESSIONAL sport and these punks need to act like professionals. But I guess that what you get when you let these punk kids into your league without much of an education and having things handed to them all their lives because they could shoot, pass, and skate better than everyone else.No wonder people don't watch this sport on television! Half the league are prissy little prima donna mama's boys, and the other half are just thugs looking to fight to prove they're a bigger goon than all the other goons out there.Disgraceful. You should see the people at my hockey games. The kids are rich little bastards, who play dirty as hell for the most part while their parents curse their heads off from the stands. Almost nobody has good sportsmanship at my games, and obviously it continues with these particular people. I can't stand it. Not only are these people rich, crybaby, mama's boys, but they talk down to everyone. I've heard it before. "Oh, look at this white kid with cornrows, what a poor-ass, mother ing wigger. Im'a take your head off when you ain't lookin'". I understand trash talking and the fights every now and then, but the sucker punching and overt violence has got to stop. I do enjoy fights in hockey, but sucker punching another person is just plain uncalled for. I'm glad Nichol got 9 games, but he should have gotten more, somewhere in the range of 15-20 IMO. My point is that this kind of crap goes on at my hockey games, and even younger people's games (11-13) years old and it doesn't go away and unfortunately we get to see debacles like the one that occured the other day in the Sabres/Preds game.-E.A.R. To be honest, I think he should of gotten 15+ games. However, you do have to realize fighting is different from the NBA to the NHL. At least one fight in an NHL is normal in every game, while NBA fights happen much less regularly.
