AHL Shakeup (sorry if this a repost)

Recommended Posts

If this is a repost, I do apolgize but if not....

I know Cleveland is joining up again in the AHL, either as the fighting walleye or the erie lake monsters (I hope its lake monsters) but I also heard that Rockford, Illinois is joining the league, as an affiliate to Chicago.

Other rumors I heard....

Carolina gets Norfolk (makes sense)

Albany or Rochester gets the NYR

Allegedly, Lowell is moving to Trenton cause of the devils

Any thoughts, ideas?

Right now, that leaves a few affiliates and cities without teams.

Hartford is empty if the Rangers go to Rochester.

Colorado has no team if the Rangers go to Albany, unless they continue a dual-affiliate agreement, or go with Carolina to Norfolk.

Buffalo has no team.

Lowell is currently in the first year of a two-year agreement with the New Jersey Devils. If the franchise moves to Trenton, it probably won't be until the 2008-09 season.

Hmmm, that's what I thought would happen, but like I said, just a rumour about Trenton. Allgedly, if that happens, Lowell would either join the ECHL to replace Trenton or join the UHL (honestly, the U?)

Colorado is affiliated with Cleveland for the time being.....

Here's something else I found

The Sabres should definetly sign a new affiliation with the Amerks. They have been affiliated since the late 70's. If they break apart it will be horrible. It is pretty easy me or any other Sabres fan to take the 90E to Rochester and see the future Sabres but if they change affiliates who knows how far we will have to go to see them.

Reportedly the Amerks are less than happy with Buffalo, which is why it may fall apart.

ROCKFORD ? The Winnebago County Board has voted to help pay for MetroCentre renovations regardless of whether MetroCentre management buys the Rockford IceHogs and turns it into an American Hockey League franchise linked with the Chicago Blackhawks.

The board voted 19-7 with two members absent Thursday night to contribute $9 million over the next 20 years to cover renovation costs, which will be $20 million split among the city, county and Centre Events, the government agency that manages the MetroCentre.

The board previously voted 14-11 to only pay the $9 million if the city, county and MetroCentre were not allowed to own a sports franchise. The restriction, which was added to the county?s part of an intergovernmental agreement between the city, county and MetroCentre outlining how much each party would pay.

The previous resolution drew support from board members who didn?t think government bodies should be delving into private business ventures with public money and those who believed that city and MetroCentre officials were trying to bully IceHogs owners Dr. Kris Tumilowicz and Craig Drecktrah into a sale and force the team to play in a different league. Thursday?s vote did not include an ownership clause.

The vote paves the way for the city and MetroCentre to move forward on negotiations with the IceHogs and Blackhawks

Some other possibilities....

Blackhawks to Rockford

Hurricanes to Norfolk

Rangers to Albany (very good chance if Howard Baldwin who is the front runner in the Civic Center deal gets it)

Colorado to Cleveland (we all knew this all ready)

AND then the best one of them all, Hartford will get an AHL (American) team entitled the Hartford Whalers (this from good sources within Hartford)

I got all of this from AHLFans.net btw. Honestly, for some odd reason, I could see Florida as an affiliate for Norfolk if Carolina doesn't pull through

Maybe they're part of the team trying to resurrect the Hartford Whalers in any way, shape, or form.
