1998. With the update to the Birds and New Sunday caps. The BP jersey was the red one with the Navy piping, that they said they may wear during some games, which they only did once, around Labor Day 1999 during a "Jerseys off our backs" charity promotion, which actually may have been special jerseys made just for that game.

Ummmm the Yanks have ST caps and jerseys. They always have. (And by the way, they look just as awful as the rest of the league).

During the season no, but during spring training, yes they do, all the time.

Yeah, they started a couple years ago.

Rule used to be that they wouldn't wear the ST jerseys in any game that was televised in NYC. Of course, now that they have their own network all the games are televised, so now it's regular home pinstripes for the first game of ST and navy jersey for all the others.

Just to clarify, though: unlike some other teams, the Yankees have never worn BP tops in a competitive game.

I remember that game. It was either 98 or 99...but they weren't the BP tops. They were actually double knit red jerseys made for that game, not the mesh BP tops. They also had a special MDA Cardinals Care patch on the sleeve.

I have been trying for years to find a pic of that jersey but I could never find one.

As for the Cards hats...I like the alternate cap, but I always think it looks funny wearing the primarily navy cap with the white jersey on Sunday home games.

heh, as long as we're mentioning teams who wear game jerseys for spring training, the Cubs usually wear the pinstripes for spring home games and the BP tops for road games. I know damn sure they've done this since introducing the walking cub, and they may have done it this way with the "Cuba" BPs as well.

and as far as hats, the first BP caps, the mesh 5950s, were worn both home and away when they were introduced back in 99. the second BP caps, the navy ones most of us Cub fans would like to forget, were only worn for road games, as the normal home cap was worn for home games. the new BP caps, I assume by virtue of being royal instead of navy, can and probably will be worn for all spring games, just like the mesh cap was. I miss the mesh caps, I shoulda got one when I had the chance.

Interestingly, in the Cubs-Sox game the other day, the Pale Ones wore their alt blacks. Usually, like most teams they wear the BPs for most of the spring, so I was sort of scratching my head there.
