I'm sure the Galaxy would have liked to have changed uniforms prior to the start of the season, too. But I'm pretty sure that AEG and MLS were prohibited from selling any Beckham merchandise until his contract with Real Madrid expired and his new contract began.True, but just because they couldn't sell Beckham shirts before mid-season didn't mean that they couldn't sell new merchandise without his name on it when the season started....Sure, the Galaxy could have sold Donovan t-shirts and Cobi Jones posters with the new logo or whatever. But by holding off on releasing the new kit and logo, they prevented the legions of renegade retailers on eBay or elsewhere from printing Beckham kits before his contract with Real expired. The best anybody got was a Beckham jersey in the old yellow and gold, a shirt he'll never wear.And let's be honest, the few bucks they could have made off of early sales of Donovan merch in the new colors probably wouldn't cover the legal costs of violating the terms of his marketing rights with Real. I still say it was a good move to release the kit when they did, considering the circumstances. And I don't see it as much about catering to one superstar as it is adhering to the terms of a contract. It's a business as much as it is a team sport. Now, on a different but relevant note, I'm going to join all of you who are praising this kit. I think it's classy, despite the adidas template the perpetual confusion of whatever Herbalife is supposed to be. It's a sharp crest and attractive colors. It seems like every time I watch a match (Which isn't too terribly often) he's scoring the game winner.The last goal he scored in open play was his third of the game against Ecuador on 25 March. Since then he played 7 matches for the MNT, and scored 4 goals... all from the Penalty Spot. He scored in the previous match against Denmark, which snapped an 18 match scoreless drought that stretched back to 2005's CONCACAF Gold Cup.The maddening thing about Donovan is that he's got metric tons of talent, but no heart or desire to maximize it. I remember how good he was in the (I think it was) 02 World Cup, and I saw that game vs Ecuador and figured he must still be lights out. My mistake then. It's really too bad that the MLS is the league people come back to when they can't cut it in Europe. Hopefully Beckham coming over helps to reverse the MLS' role.
