Could someone please explain to me why numbers are only done in white-on-black, black-on-white, or red-on-white? I get the whole "we want to be like the EPL and have the same font for every team" thing, but I don't understand why there are so few color choices.

It's weird but Chivas USA is the only team with gold numbers

Redskin IS a racist term, no matter how Daniel Snyder tries to spin it.

When do these officially go on sale? A Landon Donovan one of these is calling my name.

Or does only Beckham wear these like the commercials seem to suggest? :D

I'll get mine with "Landycakes" on the back. ^_^

[Croatia National Team Manager Slavan] Bilic then went on to explain how Croatia's success can partially be put down to his progressive man-management techniques. "Sometimes I lie in the bed with my players. I go to the room of Vedran Corluka and Luka Modric when I see they have a problem and I lie in bed with them and we talk for 10 minutes." Maybe Capello could try getting through to his players this way too? Although how far he'd get with Joe Cole jumping up and down on the mattress and Rooney demanding to be read his favourite page from The Very Hungry Caterpillar is open to question. --The Guardian's Fiver, 08 September 2008

LA Galaxy officially unveil new uniform, logo

CARSON, Calif. - Today, adidas and the LA Galaxy of Major League Soccer (MLS) launch the newly redesigned Galaxy team uniform and logo for the 2007 season. This is the first re-branding that the franchise has undergone in their twelve year history, timed with the Galaxy's recent signing of international soccer star, David Beckham. adidas and the LA Galaxy worked closely with SME Brands to develop the new logo. The LA Galaxy will debut their new primary jersey when they take on Chelsea FC in the World Series of Football tournament, July 21st at The Home Depot Center on the campus of California State University - Dominguez Hills in Carson, Calif.

"We wanted a classic and clean look that would stand the test of time, something that generations of players and fans would wear with pride on and off the field," said LA Galaxy President and General Manager Alexi Lalas. "We strived to create a jersey with an eye to the future and a nod to the past. With adidas and SME we were able to achieve all of this and more."

The new adidas uniform features the LA Galaxy "Quasar" crest as a woven badge on the jersey with two embroidered stars representing their two MLS Cup championships, accompanied by the adidas three stripes down the sleeves. The uniform also highlights the new LA Galaxy team colors, collegiate navy, gold and white.

"A Quasar is the heart of a galaxy and generates incredible light and energy," added Lalas. "Our crest shows a Quasar shining brightly in a deep blue California sky. It illuminates the initials "LA", used globally to refer to our City of Angels. The color gold honors the Galaxy's proud history and tradition in the Golden State."

AEG President and CEO Timothy J. Leiweke, MLS Commissioner Don Garber, LA Galaxy Head Coach Frank Yallop and Lalas will present David Beckham with his personalized LA Galaxy uniform at 10am PT on Friday, July 13th during the official presentation at The Home Depot Center.

"We're thrilled to be partners with LA Galaxy, MLS and David Beckham at such an exciting time in U.S. soccer," said Antonio Zea, Head of Soccer for adidas America. "The worldwide demand for the new Galaxy jersey is a strong indicator of the relevance that MLS, it's teams and athletes are building on a global scale."

The latest in adidas apparel technology is featured in the Galaxy kit including ClimaCool and FlowMapping technologies, which allows heat and sweat to escape the body and is proven to reduce fatigue and dehydration. The jersey also features ForMotion technology, engineered to fit an athlete's body in motion through 3-dimensional design and by flattening the seams to reduce irritation.

The official adidas LA Galaxy licensed product range includes replica home, away and training jerseys ($65), as well as a variety of apparel and training gear, available in key retailers nationwide starting July 11, 2007. adidas is the official sponsor, supplier and licensee of all thirteen Major League Soccer teams as a part of the long-term partnership signed between adidas, MLS and Soccer United Marketing in 2004.

adidas is a global designer, developer and marketer of athletic footwear, apparel and accessories with the mission to be the leading sports brand in the world. Brand adidas is part of the adidas Group, a corporation that includes brands such as Reebok, TaylorMade and Rockport.

gotham, I tried to google image a picture of shaun wright-phillips to make my point clearer, but yeah, if they can fit *that* on a jersey, I think Prima-Donovan would, too.

now, who would make that for you, that's the better question....hmm.

If you notice in this photo of Bekham, there are two stars over the Galaxy shield. Obviously this is in the same tradition of European teams marking their championships. However, it seems the jerseys being sold to fans do not have those two stars on them. :therock:

"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Unknown | 🌐 Check out my articles on jerseys at Bacon Sports 🔗

I know it's MLS-wide, but that's really dumb. European teams do not customarily mark their individual championships with stars. They assign a star for a number of championships, usually ten.

Depends on the league. UEFA allows clubs to put stars above their badges for their European Cup/Champions League titles, and many leagues go along with that, but not the Big Four (Premiership, la Liga, Serie A, and Bundesliga).

As for domestic titles after certain number of times, the Bundesliga does that (West German titles only, Bitte.)

I think its really stupid that the Galaxy changed jerseys just because Beckham is coming.

That being said... I do like the new jerseys... however the reason for the change is still stupid

But what can ya do?

Figured this would be an ight place to post this.

So tonight I went on MLSnet.com and shockingly enough there were tickets for the July 21st World Series of Football vs Chelsea FC, which will be Beckham's first match with the Galaxy. Im not a huge soccer fan, but like many, events such as this have began to make me a fan, and I truely feel this is the start of something really good for the MLS and soccer in the United States.

Right on! The MLS has made tremendous strides and I am really excited in that Beckham genuinely seems like he wants to bring American soccer to another level. I read the SI article and was really impressed with the guy. Still, go Revs!

Sorry, I meant to type "European teams do not customarily mark their individual league championships with stars."

Multi-league competitions like the Champions League are much, much harder to attain and are therefore very different. But to add stars for every single league title is grade inflation.

Even the Bundesliga makes a team wait until it reaches 3 championships before they can add a single star to their shirts, and they've got the lowest standards.
