Elton Brand Ruptures Achilles

Looks like the 07/08 Clippers season is over before it begins

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2960614

Well, knowing that they were out of the playoff by one game folowing the livingston injury (plus teh Warriors had the game which Nellie lost it in regulation via a Technical Foul at the end of regualtion vs. WAS), I am not sure if the loss of Brand wll cost them 3-5 games total. i like Elton Brand as an honest human and very good player, even if he was a Dukie, but the season will expose the Clippers soon enough. In the west, they can still make the palyoffs if the beat up on the east.

Agreed. This isn't like a couple of years back, before the Clippers were actually decent and they were the Clippers. There's still a decent chance they make the playoffs.

Losing brand though is tough, he is the Clippers best player.

Further proof that the franchise is cursed.

I think the Clips can hold it together for 6 months at around .500 and make a push for the playoffs with a rested Brand. If its the entire season itll be difficult to make the playoffs, especially without someone like Francis running the point.

Ouch, there goes the Clippers only good player

How do you figure? Kaman, Magette, Mobley, a healthy Livingston and Cassell are good players. Do you even know basketball???!!!????

Yes, Brand has been the only all star, but mostly because his teammates are overshadowed in the West at their positions.

True, which is why I'm thinking they'll be alright and at least contend for a playoff spot, IF Brand comes back.

Kaman's a serviceable, albeit overpaid, center. Maggette has bum knees. Livingston won't be back for quite some time, and he may never be the same again. Cassell and Mobley are in the twilight of their careers (and in Mobley's case, a career that was never much more than being second fiddle to someone better). Dunleavy's fashioned a decent club, granted, but let's not sweep Brand's injury under the rug. This was a massive blow to the franchise, and they're not that talented or deep enough to ride that out successfully.

I'd also add that Livingston seems to be made of plywood (having followed his grade school, high school, and NBA career, I think I'm allowed to say that).

The Peoria paper seems to be indicating that he's recovering nicely, though.

This is probably my Clipper bias talking, but I'll be as realistic as possible. If they can be somewhat competitive (around .500 mark or so) going into the All-Star break, which is by the expected time both Brand and Livingston should return, they should sneak into playoffs. Of course, that would mean that our starting center with ADD can wake up from his season-long coma, our second-best player can get along with the coach and quit chucking up ill-advised shots, and everyone else have career years. As it stands, it would a hell of a miracle for all of the above to happen.

Where are y'all getting this stuff? They weren't even .500 WITH Elton Brand last year.
