I'm sorry to hear this.

Former Met star Roberto Alomar had unprotected sex with his ex-girlfriend while he had full blown AIDS, a sensational lawsuit charges.

In the $15 million action filed in Brooklyn Federal court, Ilya Dall, of Queens, said the ballplayer tested positive for HIV in 2006 and a doctor later told him he had AIDS.

Dall said she tested negative for the disease - but is claiming punitive damages for emotional distress. She also claims her children were exposed to the virus.

Alomar, 41, a 12-time All Star, who retired from baseball in 2005, began dating Dall in 2002, and began having unprotected sex with her a short time later, according to the suit.

Her suit does not claim that he knew he had AIDS when they were having unprotected sex - but he had reason to think he might because his doctors kept advising him to be tested. He procrastinated and told her he was disease free, the suit says. In 2004, she said, she noticed he had cold sores. The following year he was diagnosed with a blood disorder that's linked to AIDS, the suit says.

Also in 2005, Alomar told Dall that when he once was raped by two Mexican men after playing a Ballgame in New Mexico, according to the suit.

Other symptoms began to develop, she says, including erectile dysfunction , a chronic cough, and fatigue.

A doctor insisted that the longtime second baseman take an HIV test, but Alomar continually refused, the suit charges.

In January 2006, the suit alleges, he finally got tested and it was positive. Nine days later, doctors discovered a mass in his chest, and a spinal tap revealed that he had full blown AIDS.

Alomar's two seasons with the Mets were considered disappointing , but he is considered a possible Hall of Fame candidate and may be elected when he becomes eligible next year.

But he will forever be remembered for an ugly incident in 1996 when, as a member of the Baltimore Orioles, he spat in the face of umpire John Hirschback during an argument over a called third strike.

He was suspended for five games. At the time there were allegation that the ump used a slur against Alomar, but that was never proven.

Alomar's father, Sandy, is the Mets bench coach. His brother, Sandy Jr., is a Met instructor.

What? Oh, never change, New York Post. Good English is for the weak.

This reads like a 4th grader's essay, but at least it follows rules.

Were it up to me, I might be inclined to keep him out of Cooperstown if this is true about knowingly having unprotected sex while HIV-positive. That's essentially attempted manslaughter.

I just find it hard to believe he could put up the kind of career he did in quality of play and quantity of time - to say nothing of living 20+ years - with undiagnosed, untreated HIV.

Something - or everything - about this story doesn't quite add up.

Are they alleging he's been asymptomatically carrying HIV since age 17, though? I didn't think they were. Who's to say he didn't pick it up at a later point in time? Consider that when Bobby Valentine was the manager of the Mets, he made some remarks to the media about baseball being ready sooner rather than later to accept an openly gay player, at which point Alomar's teammate Mike Piazza came forward and made a huge stink about denying he was gay. Moreover, it was Hirschbeck calling Alomar a :censored: that made him fly off the handle like that. So no, it doesn't add up to have been HIV+ since 1985 or whenever and only now develop AIDS, but I'm not a doctor.

Haha, I got censored. He called him maggot with an f.

She has little hope, especially if she consented to sex after they got the test results showing he had AIDS. After that anything she did was with informed consent. If she is not infected then she has to hope she is on the life insurance policy. I have read three stories and the list when they started dating, but not when they broke up...just when he reportedly tested HIV-positive.

Now I also wonder if Mary Pierce will get tested ASAP.

So the rape story is just a non-sequitor, then? It's placed so wonderfully in the article's narrative.

I think the point of the rape story was to very delicately allude to how he may have--oh God how do I even go about saying this--I don't know, put himself in the time and place where one could wind up being raped by two men? That Alomar was strolling up the clubhouse steps after a game and two men came out from around a corner and raped him is highly unlikely. What they may have been trying to say, and again, this is all just rampant awful speculation, is that he made some lifestyle choices that went awry. Happened to Rufus Wainwright, as I recall.

Come on, those who post or read here who know who Rufus Wainwright is (or will even leave this site to Google him) equates to about 3%. You know that!

Some how I just find this hard to believe, I mean Alomar sucked his way out of the Hall of Fame while he was a Met in my book, but I just cant believe he had AIDS.

Good for you as you are part of the "ESPN Radio/Radio Disney" crowd there. My point is that there is not much a a reason to bring in references to items which those who normally visit this site will find more about. Those who post "just to comment" and not inform have no reason to expand their minds outside of sports and sportslogos. Political commentary aside, after 4 years, I would say this board has gotten younger and has less interest to be informed on even popular culture. It seems that:

1-Robby Alomar is an afterthought to many who post here.

2-I don't even think many read the AP stories from their local newspaper's website much any more.

There is little information seeking even though it is more readily available than ever.

And Tank, what is in your Chris Brown joke series? Will the hits keep on coming in 2009?

Radio Disney? What?

Just the way the Article starts ''Former Met star Roberto Alomar had unprotected sex with his ex-girlfriend'' somethings up but if this is true really sad to hear.

What do you mean "something's up"? You didn't even quote the full sentence. I'm missing your point.

Between A-Rod and Alomar you can be sure ole Bud's gonna be reaching for a BIIIIIIIIIIIIIG bottle of Mad Dog 20/20 this week.

After it was disclosed that he made $18M last year, I think that he will drink "Every Beers Which Made Milwakuee Famous". Then again, he does not even look like a one beer drinker. Give him a Shirley Temple/Roy Rodgers with extra cherries!

The article mentioned his lousy play as a Met and said this may have been the reason.

I doubt it and he is not a Hall of Famer, he played his way out of the Hall of Fame in New York.

What??

Where does it say that AIDS may have been the reason for him being lousy when he was a Met?

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

If you had read the article you would know that one of the ways they could tell he had AIDS was because something wasn't up.
