I'm going to go out on a limb and say the Penguins are good.

Time to test the mettle of the champions, how will they respond?

Considering we made it without him till February last year... (Albeit 10th in the conference and falling, but that's Coach Therrible's fault). At least we finally get to see what Skoula can bring to the ice.

Skoula, really? Can't you all bring up a prospect from Wilkes-Barre?

Well, its either him or Ben Lovejoy, (or Nate Guenin, Deryk Engelland, or Rob Bortuzzo.)

Is it too early to say that the Columbus Blue Jackets are for real? They dominated the Kings last from start to finish and are 5-1.

Until about 20 games into the season, its too early to really make much of a judgment call about any team's performance.

I'd like to say one cannot gauge a team's performance until mid-January as the superior teams begin to separate from the rest of the pack. Whereas the weaker teams begin to either make adjustments in an attempt to push for the playoffs or succumb to the fact that their squad is not good and begin to "push" for a high draft pick.

You don't have to worry about Toronto doing that.

You can get a better read by that point, but 20 games is a decent amount for a first reading.

Clean hit followed by blackhawk players attacking Mitchell and putting a stop to the play and the Canucks scoring chances. The NHL needs to do something about these fight after clean hits. Is suspending a player for instigating a fight too much?

This always happens whether it's a clean hit or not. Just part of the game.

But it shouldn't be. Football players don't fight after tackles, so why do hockey players feel the need to fight after a legal hit.

The Thrashers game got ugly quick.

the 3rd was just downright awful for the Caps. we tried our hardest to hand the Thrashers the game, but it just didnt work. Varly made a few big saves down the stretch, but frankly if the Caps desire to be one of the best teams in the East they HAVE to lock this game down at 5-2, period.

If you hit another team's star player, you're gonna get something from his team. Clean or not. Its always been that way. Im not saying its right, but its not necessarily wrong. Its just part of the game. Protecting the stars by making those who hit them pay a price.

Comparing tackling in football to hitting in hockey is a bit flawed. Sure hitting is a part of hockey, but it isn't the main point of the sport. In football the whole point is to tackle the person before they can score a touch down. In hockey, hitting is just one way of slowing a person down. If you want to compare tackling in football to something in hockey, maybe you should compare it to making a save or blocking a shot, or a poke check.

Hitting a player, after they hit a teamate, is a part of the game. If you're gonna get rid of that, you might as well get rid of the hitting in the first place.

hitting a player, picking your spot to retaliate in defense of your teammate is one thing, but to try and start a fight and stop the flow of play is what the problem is.

Thats what I'm trying to say Don. I play hockey and whenever my teammates or I get hit. whether it be dirty or clean we take a number and we get them back in time. We don't stop the play by trying to fight a guy.
