If the Avs go 19-14-4 the rest of the way that will give the 96 points which should be enough but I do think 100 might be the magic number. So I think what you see now in the top 8 will be what it will be like in April barring massive collapses.

So it's time for the Sharks to ante up Joe Pavelski, Devin Setoguchi and a 1st Round Draft Pick for Ilya Kovalchuk. Because I know for the top contenders in the West will do just about anything in there power to grab him for the playoffs.

Just a harmless prediction.

It is a possibility.

Woah, that's giving up a whole hell of a lot, especially after what they gave up to get Heatley. That would be an absolutely deadly first two lines, but who would play behind them?

I think it will be a difficult adjustment with all of these players coming back. The players coming back could disrupt the chemestry that they have going right now.

Poppycock. "Chemistry" is trumped by "having Johan Franzen." I'm sure they're grateful for the contributions they've gotten from Ville Leino or whoever, but they're going to play their best players as soon they're available and they'll be better off for it.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

So bring back a bunch of players coming off of injury and that missed a large portion of the season is going to right the ship?

-Dan

Yes, cause those players (based on the Red Wings current position in the standings), are an upgrade over what theyre currently putting out there.

Devils & Lightning will resume tomorrow.

Resume meaning they'll begin the game midway through the second period or start from the first?

NEW YORK (January 9, 2010) ? National Hockey League Game #655, between the Tampa Bay Lightning and New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., will resume Sunday, Jan. 10, at 6 p.m., ET.

Tampa Bay led the contest, 3-0 with 9:12 remaining in the second periodFriday night, when a bank of arena lights failed and could not berestored. Play will resume from that point.

All tickets from Friday?s contest will be honored at Sunday?s continuation.

I'm not giving up on the Blues yet. On one hand, since they did it last year, there's no chance they can do it again this year. On the other hand, there was no chance they could do it last year...

Plus I know they're better than they've played, so maybe after a couple of weeks with the new coach they'll go on a tear. It'll have to be quite a tear, but it's still to early to give up in my book.

I also think Dallas could get in. Partly because I still think there's teams in the top 8 that will slide.

This is kind of the same feeling I have on the Jackets, as they're better than they've played.

The Blue Jackets have now won back-to-back games in regulation. I think that's called a winning streak. Weird, I know.

Yay!

I'm American so I wouldn't know anything about hockey right?

Nevermind, I just realized that I was smarta$$ing to a kid that was born about a decade after I started following hockey

This has nothing to do with the Wings at all.

I can't imagine that any team can have as many key players out for a significant amout of time and expect a seemless transition when said players come back.

It's not a knock on the Wings, I think that would apply to any team.

There probably wont be a seamless transition, but its still early enough and the West is still wide open with it being so bunched together...if that makes any sense at all.

You put a negative spin on anything involving the Red Wings, including a good thing like players returning from injuries. The Canucks at one point this year were missing Daniel Sedin, Roberto Luongo, and Sami Salo they all eventually returned and team started playing their best hockey. I don't see why a well coached veteran team in the Wings wont play their best hockey once they get some of their guys back.

At one point the Wings were missing enough quality players to make up 2 quality lines, plus a few d-men. Getting players back from injury that missed a lot a time is not nearly the same as bringing in a quality player via trade. There is going to be a period of adjustment when these players come back. That adjustment may be enough to keep them out of the playoffs.

They are getting players that are coming off of injuries that missed a boatload of time. That is not the same as getting a fresh/healthy player in midseason form.

I would be saying this regardless if it was the Wings or any team, not sure why its so hard to understand that. Then again I am trying to justify my opinions to a kid so what do I know?

The period of adjustment will be maybe a couple of games, if there is one at all. That will not be enough to keep them out of the playoffs. Hope that made sense old man.
