raysox
Hey guys, so a commercial just showed for the USF basketball team's upcoming game against Pitt. They used a logo I've never seen before. I quickly searched Pitt Panther logo, and BAM there it was.Does anyone have any insight? The logos on the bottom are from 2004, so is this that old? Also it's not on the mothersite.Plus, it's not very good anyway. @MichaelDanger19 | Dribbble
Spammy
Yeah, they changed to that last year I think.
Quillz
I think the panther logo you posted was a "modernization" of one they started using in 1997. The one you posted dates from 2007, IIRC, because the original one just didn't look much like anything, let alone a panther.
Brave-Bird 08
woah! I've never seen that either. It looks a lot better than the older version. They use the pitt script so strictly...esp on those awesome new football uniforms.but this logo is pretty sweet
Luigi74
That was a secondary logo that was briefly used, the current secondary logo is the old "Torch Cut" Panther.
meetthemets
If I'm not mistaken, Steve Pederson was responsible for the first Panther head when he became AD the first time. I heard a story that a friend of his did it. It was supposed to look like it was cut from steel (like anyone would get that unless they were told). Then when he left they changed it to the more modern version seen above, then brought back the old one when he returned to Pitt. It's not great but certainly better than the original. powersurge
I think the idea to simplify the logo was a smart one. Makes it easier to reproduce consistently on different media. But I will say that the logo itself still needs work. Still looks like a dog to me as opposed to a panther.
