The presser is over.

As rumored, TFC has signed these 2 players but Aron Winter will not be leaving his post as head coach. He made a comment in the presser that he was laughing in his office as the press conference was called and the rumors that he was fired/resigned started. He made mention that he is here for 3 years on his contract. I assume that in his somewhat broken english he was trying to insinuate that he's here to stay.

So Winter's NOT out? Hm, I had a hunch that something was up when 1) This happened on a matchday 2) This happened in one of the more important weeks of the season for TFC (Canadian Derby Matches vs. Vancouver in MLS [which neither side took seriously :P] & in the Canadian Championship, & 3) He was still coaching last night. Weird.

Anyways, NASL is debuting a new ball, but as the saying goes, the more things change the more they stay the same...

The long-delayed Canadian Championship is finally finished. Toronto wins 2-1 (3-2 on agg.) to win the Voyageurs Cup & qualify for the 2011-12 CONCACAF Champions League.

As for the Whitecaps...unless some stuff really begins to go their way, VWFC are now relegated to "troll the rest of MLS" status.

Went down to the game yesterday, Vancouver was really bad, Toronto had 2 sure goals that missed and finally started to capitalize in the 2nd half. Granted, Toronto's lack of finishing in the first half was bad too. All around, the game was a battle of the worst and I firmly believe that neither team would have made it through the prelims of the CONCACAF champion's league.

One day, Jay DeMarit's groin is going to kill him in his sleep. I'm pretty sure he's just half-assing his stretching drills before each game, given the number of groin pulls he's had this season.

The argument between this goal and the Hassli one will never be settled.

Union trade D Jordan Harvey to Whitecaps for allocation cash.

DUMB trade on Vancouver's part considering that they're already deep at Left Back. Unless they plan on moving Harvey to another position, don't see why they made this move. Even dumber move on Philly's part because 1) Why mess with a good thing? Philly's back 4 was A-OK & 2) They got nothing but allocation money.

Real head-scratcher here.

EDIT: Did more digging. Apparently another DP (reportedly the 1st African DP in MLS history) is on the way to MLS...maybe Philly is loading up in an attempt to sign whoever it may be?

2011 MLS All-Star First XI, as voted on by the fans:

MLS All-Star First XI

Goalkeeper: Kasey Keller (SEA)

Defenders: Omar Gonzalez (LA), Sean Franklin (LA), Rafa Márquez (NY), Tim Ream (NY)

Midfielders: David Beckham (LA), Jack Jewsbury (POR), Brek Shea (DAL)

Forwards: Landon Donovan (LA), Thierry Henry (NY), Chris Wondolowski (SJ)

AT&T Text Voting Winner:

Defender: Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City)

Sunday's announced First XI is not necessarily the starting lineup for the match. MLS All-Star coach Hans Backe will select the starters based on player availability and tactical considerations. If First XI selections are unavailable due to injury, international duty or other commitments, Backe will select alternates for the game-day roster, but all First XI players are All-Stars.

Two selections by MLS Commissioner Don Garber will be announced July 16. The complete game day roster will be announced on Monday, July 18.

In other news, word around town is that the Whitecaps will be the team to pick up the African DP that was rumored to be coming to MLS. If this is true, we'll hear about it in a press conference tomorrow. Can't wait to see who it is.

The Whitecaps have signed 25-year-old Gambian striker Mustapha Jarju. Jarju becomes the 'Caps second Designated Player.

Jarju has spent the past three seasons with Belgium's RAEC de Mons, where he scored 43 goals in 118 appearances. Prior to joining RAEC, he scored 26 goals in 2 seasons with Belgium's Lierse SK. Before playing in Belgium, he suited-up for Gambian sides Reggae Boys, Wallidan, Racing Star and Steve Biko FC.

Jarju is an alternate captain for the Gambian national team and has scored 4 goals in 25 appearances for the senior side. He also captained Gambia's U-17 and U-20 national teams, and played for the U-23 Olympic squad.

US Open Cup Results from Tuesday/Wednesday:

Chicago Fire 4:0 New York Red Bulls

Sporting KC 0:2 Richmond Kickers

FC Dallas 2:0 Real Salt Lake

Seattle Sounders 3:1 LA Galaxy

Red Bulls really threw in the towel against the Fire. They only sent 14 players and something like only 3 or 4 of them were first team regulars. The Fire haven't been doing anything but draw in league play, but a home match against Richmond is all that stands between them and a Cup Final.

Hopefully, Galaxy and Real Madrid fans will have a nice ride getting to the Coliseum during "carmaggeddon"

That match is this weekend?

Dear lord. There might be 100 people there unless everyone is going to walk there.

On a side note to the bigger issue, who the hell decides it's a good idea to shut down one of the busiest freeways (the 405) in LA for 3 days. And not just any part of the 405. Probably the busiest 10-mile stretch of the 405. Dumb. Just work overnight and close two lanes at a time like you do with every other section of the freeway. Caltrans is retarded.

I love how they played the "we can't afford it" card when you have teams like FC Dallas not only sending their 1st squad, but going through the trouble of streaming and putting their radio team there. Pretty sad.

Anyways, the Sounders STILL haven't lost a US Open Cup game since they became a MLS team. Talk about a team that takes the Open Cup deadly serious...

Yeah, I love how the Fire take it seriously too. But it's not like they have anything in league play to rest their players for this year. The Fire said they'd have a live stream of that game, but didn't mention that it was just going to be radio until the game actually started. And the score was 1-0 ten minutes in before they actually got the link of the stream up on the website.

Ronaldo (Real Madrid) just illustrated how minor league MLS talent really is.

At least the 2nd stringers. The drop off between MLS starters and bench players is pretty steep, we all know that.

Richmond has been very solid against the MLS so far. They've played pretty consistently with Columbus and KC. I really think they have a good shot at taking down the Fire. After that, who knows. But, I'm really looking forward to their August 30th match.
