The Southern Professional Hockey League's Louisiana IceGators have a new logo. They believe that with a new logo, the team can have a fresh start and turn around the luck after 2 horrible seasons. What do you guys think?

For all the bird de lis haters I think the bird de lis isnt supposed to be a pelican and a fleur de lis I think its just a fleur de lis with a pelicans head. Thats what it looks like to me. Also the flair around the tip of the beak is just flair that fleur de lis have sometimes source I am from NOLA.

It's a great logo, but they need to get rid of the puck,

Why you make fun of me? I make concept for Auburn champions and you make fun of me. I cry tears.

According to someone who supposedly works in their front office, this is a new logo but it joins the old one. They'll supposedly use both. Yay convoluted identity!

My first thought upon seeing this is that it uses the same font used in the horrendous Pensacola Ice Flyers logo, which was introduced to the SPHL just last year. Was no one within the organization smart enough to notice the similarity, or do they just not care?

Also, it was announced today that the CHL's Mississippi RiverKings are joining the league. This makes two teams named Mississippi, (with the Surge) so we could likely (hopefully) see a name change. The most sensible option would be the RiverKings returning to their previous name, the Memphis RiverKings (1992-2007) as they are located basically just across the border from Memphis.

upgrade-a bit, that texture/tilt look is bad. Sorry, can't say I like it.

I like the direction they went, but they failed with the final product. :therock:

2 years ago, and it wouldn't surprise me if nobody thought to check around the league.

"Icegators" has got to be the best name of all time for an ice hockey team in the deep south. Absolutely perfect. I think "Caimon" is creole for alligator and that might also have worked too 'cause chanting that name sounds like "Come on!", but it's not as good as "Icegators". So, that's why neither of those logos suit a team with a name that good. They are at best, almost mediocre. They don't stand out. I don't think they would attract a lot of interest outside of Lafayette, and the Icegators could, if they had a good logo. Hockey fans in Canada, and in particular, Quebec and Acadia, would probably really get into it. The team is affiliated with the NY Rangers, and both the Rangers and the Acadiana flag share the same colours. So if the uniform used r,w,b, tricolour, and maybe went old school like the alternate Minnesota Wild's with the team's name in script writing across the chest, that could look cool. As for logos, maybe the profile of an alligator that looks like Wally Gator from the Hanna-Barbera cartoon but tougher, skating on his tail and holding a stick. Or it's an alligator head in profile, on the tail end of the letter "L" with a puck in it's open mouth. Or it's the head of an alligator with a hockey player between it's open jaws. Something like the old Gator Bowl logo of the uniformed Alligator punting. I tend to like classic and 70s era hockey logos, so I'd pick something like the Pittsburgh Penguins logo as the perfect inspiration for an Icegators logo. My favourite Louisiana sport logo is the Tech Bulldogs. Doesn't even have a bulldog on it, but great classy logo. And I'm not even a Tech supporter. One thing that's really important in a sport logo design that gets overlooked these days in my opinion, is that kids should be able to draw a close facsimile of a sport logo. Or want to attempt to. That builds fans from an early age. Most contemporary team logos are too busy or fussy to pull a kid in. That's my two cents.

You see the "2011" on all the other posts and the "2013" on yours? That's typically a sign you shouldn't post in this thread.
