You're well equipped at linking to old uniforms. Ones that look decent even. However there's still a common "unwritten rule of baseball aesthetics" that the location should be on the away jersey if possible. Kind of breaks of the monotony of the same uniform for both home and away, just one being white and the other gray.I don't agree that such a rule still exists. There have been times when teams having their name on an away jersey was just as popular as the city or state name. "Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong." It also just so happens that the era you're mentioning was the absolute low point for MLB uniform design. Fox
To me, putting the city name on the road uniform is more than just a tradition. Since the standard is white and grey in baseball, the city name on the road keeps the road uni from looking like a grey version of the home white. In basketball it's not much of a problem since teams have a white and a colored jersey. With white and grey, it looks better to follow the unwritten rule. Mitch B
The Atlanta Braves franchise is a charter member of what is now known as the National League. This team has resided in multiple cities during this existence (Boston, Milwaukee, Atlanta). They've changed their nickname a few times (Red Stockings, Beaneaters, Bees) during this existence.Since 1900, this team has worn the team name and/or logo on the home jersey, and the city name on the away jerseys for 36 seasons. They have worn the name “Braves” or the Braves logo on their away uniforms for 47 seasons. They have worn the city name or initial on both home and away uniforms for 17 seasons. They’ve worn nothing on their away uniforms for 3 seasons. The tradition is that teams do whatever they feel like doing. Gothamite
There are always exceptions to every rule. Doesn't make the rule any less valuable. Besides, the Braves should have worn this in 1953: The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.

TBGKon
Best look is right here, man...I agree completely. The only thing that bugs me on the jersey is the 2 sets of piping (orange-black-orange on sleeves, black on placket). Pick one.....not both.
