Dante_X
most of the people had either Expos or Blue Jays gear but mostly Expos. Lot's of "Let's go Expos" chants.
Anubis2051
Im curious, but how were ticket prices for these games in comparison to typical MLB regular season pricing?I paid $55 for the upper deck behind home plate on StubHub for Friday. Face value was $14. most of the people had either Expos or Blue Jays gear but mostly Expos. Lot's of "Let's go Expos" chants.A lot of Expos gear. Like a lot. There was a handful of team mixing - Blue Jays shirt, Expos hat, etc. About 2% of the crowd was Mets fans, if that. Even less of other teams. Although I was never a 'Spos fan, I was wearing an expos shirt and a Yankee hat, so its possible that a few people were there in a similar fashion showing solidarity. Merch stands had mostly Jays stuff, but there were about 4-5 different Expos t-shirts, a few hats, a sweatshirt and a jersey available. They also had the Mets blue jersey, hats, and cool-base shirts available, but strangely they were more expensive bey $10-30 compared to the Jays stuff. I will say, I was VERY impressed with the atmosphere. First time in Montreal, a few friends and I drove up from Jersey just for the chance to see a game at the Big O, as we all missed it while the Expos were there. Absolutely ELECTRIC atmosphere. Absolutely loved it. As good as, if not better than, that of many playoff games I've been to. It really was an emotional experience seeing old season ticket holders hugging and cheering together again. Everything was back - beach balls, expos banners, the wave. This town wants baseball. This town DESERVES baseball.
wonderbread
Considering the cheapest tickets to the trop are 17 these ticket prices seem very inexpensive.
Panthers
It was greed and stupidity that cost Montreal the franchise. It was MLB's ham-handed attempt to satisfy an ages-old urge to get a team back in D.C.Jeffrey Loria (what a surprise!) bought the Expos at the behest of Bud Selig. Loria destroyed the team and alienated the fan base before swapping the Expos for the Marlins in a sweetheart deal, with MLB taking over the Expos. Yeah, I know that Olympic Stadium was horrible. The fan base though, was more fanatical that MLB let on. People stayed away as a protest because they were alienated by Loria and baseball. Given the right stadium situation, I think a team can thrive much like the Als and Impact have.Oh, if you want to restore balance, either get rid of two team or add two teams. Put the Brewers and Astros back where they both belong. Astros in the NL and Brewers in the AL.

Not sure why 40K+ people need to follow the news of a team that no longer exists. Not much Twitter action on the New York Giants baseball team, but baseball does pretty well in New York. PhantomDreamer
Baseball teams have far fewer twitter followers than NBA teams yet baseball's revenue doubles the NBA's. I just included those accounts to give that guy a sense of how the whole baseball returning to Montreal event was received.
Anubis2051
Few pics from this weekend: Tons of people packed into the rotunda before the game.Despite the PA broadcaster speaking both English and French, almost all the signage was exclusively in French. On our way in. This was the first time in a LONG time I've seen tickets get ripped on their way in, rather than scanned. They didn't even have a barcode! From the back of the lower bowl. The batting cage was purchased from the Blue Jays after last season.48/13572874334_9e16404110_b_d.jpgThey painted the old Expos road script behind the plate. A nice touch.
