jeh-see
... they sew the player's name to a piece of cloth instead of sewing each letter to the uniform itself. It looks so bush league. Maybe it's just MY observation, but dont the majority of ALL the teams in ALL the major sports leagues practice this. I, honestly, find it harder to find a team that DOES sew the letters right onto the jerseys. But if I'm wrong, please prove me so, I'm man enough to admit it.~UJ
BC_RochNY
I believe that practically every team does this...I can not think of any off the top of my head that sews the names directly onto the jersey by single letter at all...please if a team does, I would like to know who it (they) are. BC_RochNY
So....by this logic, the MAJOR leagues are BUSH leagues...then what are the BUSH leagues ?

slats7
My point is that if the numbers can be applied individually (and they are), then so can the letters.
STL FANATIC
Yeah, but over half of teams (I'm not guranteeing that) do the nameplate thing. I think it looks just as professional. JUSTIN STRIEBEL | PORTFOLIO | RESUME | CONTACT
slats7
No, it looks cheap. There's no reason to do this other than cheapness. Hell, you could probably just iron them on. How hard is that?
STL FANATIC
I would say it's just as likely that it's for ease as opposed to save money. Heck, it's another piece of material to pay for. It's not like they often strip off a nameplate and reuse the jersey anyways.I get the feeling it's probably easier to get it lined up right on a nameplate though. CC97
I am fairly certain all but one NHL team uses a nameplate (Red Wings) --- Chris Creamer Founder/Editor, SportsLogos.Net "The Mothership" • News • Facebook • X/Twitter • Instagram
BC_RochNY
Bob Welch and Steve Yeager? Those are great pics...where did you dig those classics up? Dorf, good quick research on finding those teams that were part of the question...I stand humbly corrected as I never really paid that much attention to those that did it the old fashioned way. I am guessing that the nameplate came into being because back in the old days, teams used to recycle their old jerseys to their minor league teams..back when they most had their parent club names. no97
The only team this looks "bush league" on, IMHO, is the Twins, who have nameplates on a pin-striped jersey. Other than that, nameplate or no nameplate, I don't see what the difference is...Moose

Yeah, because somehow iron-on's aren't bush-league, but professionaly sewn-on letters with nameplates are? Whatever. Go back to the '70's. slapshot
I am fairly certain all but one NHL team uses a nameplate (Red Wings) I think Colorado and San Jose also don't use nameplates...I'm pretty sure those are the only teams whose names are arched rather than sewn across. officeglenn
I think the Braves, with their arched names, have to use the nameplate. Otherwise they would have to have all sorts of letters at hand at all different positions in the name.
FiddySicks
It's not like they often strip off a nameplate and reuse the jersey anyways. Thats not true. That will happen sometimes when a guy gets traded and they have an extra jersey that may or may not have been previously worn. And the nameplate thing is just easier. It takes a long time to stitch the names straight to the jerseys. Sometimes when a guy gets traded or called up at the last moment he will play the first few innings with no name on the jersey and theyll stitch the nameplate on in between innings. Mainly they will use a different jersey but when the end of the season rolls around and equipment starts to get low this will happen occasionally. Its very common in the Minors and not really that rare in the Majors either On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) ColeJ
wow... this thread is retarded there's nothing wrong with nameplates. almost everyone uses them... as said, i believe only 2 or 3 NHL teams don't use them, and believe every team in the NFL uses them.
