  1. Drink it in, it always goes down smoothly.
  2. I’ve said before but it bears repeating. I LOVE being in a division with the Saints, Panthers, and Falcons.
  3. Yeah for some reason Chip decided to bring in a bruiser between the tackles and constantly tried to bump him to the outside. So I kind of don’t blame Murray for basically just quitting on Philly considering that setup. It makes even less sense when you remember they ditched Shady the season before (there was obvs more to that, but it was so much more of a better fit). I think ultimately this is a HUGE upgrade for Philly, IF he can stay healthy. That’s a huge if, though.
  4. Very strong Demarco Murray to the Eagles vibes with this one. Titans signed Tony Pollard for big money too, which is a bit of a head scratcher because if that’s the case why not just give Henry that money? Titans, man. I’ll take DH in Tampa for the right price, I guess
  5. Pittsburgh seems like the most logical landing spot for him. Pickett isn’t good enough to not give this a shot. Also, Steelers fans are the biggest fart sniffers in the NFL. Should cover up Russ’ own fart sniffing well enough.
  6. Giants won three times and went with three distinctly different gold jerseys. I’ve always thought that was cool. 2010: Classic Giants font 2012: SF on the left chest 2014: 70s/80s script Same cap, though (no patch for 2010, updated gold WS patch for 2012, full gold patch with the trophy on the back for 2014) all three times. I personally liked the 2010 jersey the best, and the 2012 cap the best.
  7. I think you can find a lot of parallels between these cities who have lost teams because they refuse to be held financially hostage by them. Ultimately it’s painful, but a worthy sacrifice. What unnerves me a bit is that most of the stadium situations in the Bay Area are good, other than the Sharks. They play in an old arena in a city that’s already made it pretty clear they’re not particularly interested in keeping them around if it means a certain level of public funding. Something is going to have to give with that arena sooner or later, then where are you? Who’s gonna blink first? Knowing these Bay Area cities and how they operate, it probably won’t be them. If you have an ownership group that has any sense, it’s sort of a moot point when push comes to shove. But if you have even an ounce of what they have going on up in Oakland? That’s how you end up with stupid like the Coyotes playing their fourth season in a parking lot while we’re gearing up for the first season of Salt Lake Sharks hockey.
  8. I once had a geriatric psycho yell at me that I was a “:censored:ing thief” because I was using light rail as a student, and apparently that meant I wasn’t paying as high of a tax rate as him (which is such goddamn bull:censored: it’s really hard to wrap your head around). Then when I told him to mind his own business, his frail little wife flipped out on me for “disrespecting my elders”. Phoenix is great. There are pretty much constant fights on Phoenix light rail because the handicap seats are all taken up by some lush who’s passed out and drooling. All that being said, it’s a great system. Cheap, too.
  9. Considering the heavy car influence from the behemoth to the west, I would probably put Phoenix in the second category, too.
  10. I’m a little surprised by this considering the NCAA’s antiquated stance on “going pro”.
  11. Ok, not sure we’re exactly on same page here. I’m not asking what companies have a branch presence in a particular city. I’m asking what kind of a corporate base your city has. What revenue is being created and generated specifically from that area? Of the four companies you named, only Vivant is Utah based. Delta is Atlanta, Adobe is San Jose, and Discover is, like, Chicago. It’s a pretty important part of all of this considering these teams are so heavily dependent on advertising dollars. The vast majority come from that local corporate base. If you want to know why people defend Oakland, there you go. The Bay Area is an absolute behemoth when it comes to their local corporate base. Salt Lake City? Yeah, not so much.
  12. Probably bold take, but the more I think about it, the less I can realistically see a landing spot for Wilson next season. He is NOT good at this point, and I don’t really see anyone who would really benefit all that much from having him considering the residual headache that’ll come with him. Him being somebody’s backup sounds like a total circus. And of all the teams out there with subpar to bad QB play, none of them really seem great for him, either. Vegas seems like the most logical landing spot, but why even bother with that purgatory, for both sides? Steelers seem like a good fit but they ALWAYS are adverse to “personality” guys. Indy? A literal old QB carousel, and not worth it with Richardson IMO. Pats? Suck. Commanders? McNabb 2.0. Not worth either side’s time. I can think of four spots that would be intriguing on different levels. Probability varies. Titans - Not really that far of a vibe from Denver. Still decent enough to make some noise, but quiet enough to just bury him for awhile and let him play football. None of their quarterbacks are good enough to make this not worth a shot. Boring but logical. Cowboys - Look. Dak is probably going to get like $60 million a year and I don’t think there’s a single person on earth who’s excited about that other than probably Dak Prescott. They might as well put as much pressure on him as they can and if he implodes, you have your cheap insurance plan. This whole thing is probably going to be a freak show anyway. Might as well have it at Jerry World. Seems like shooting yourself in the foot if it goes wrong, but high risk high reward. 49ers - This will make both fanbases spontaneously combust but why the not at this point? I’m STILL just not sold on Brock Purdy, and if Wilson has ANYTHING left in the tank, why not get it in the one spot I think he might be willing to actually be a backup? It’s the best chance at success for both sides. Wilson gets an absolutely insane offense to work with (strong running back too, that’s key), and the Niners have a backup plan that’s not just pulling the parking attendant out of the lot to suit up. Lowest risk, highest reward imo. Also, funny! Seahawks - I just cannot tell you how goddamn funny it would be to see him go back to Seattle while taking Denver’s money. It’s probably the one place where the circus would have a less hostile vibe, and it might end up being Wilson’s only shot at being on a roster next season. Would be sad in the funniest way possible, but that’s basically the definition of “Danger”Russ(), so you never know.
  13. I’d swap the bolt colors and remove the blue in the middle to match the jersey bolts, but yeah. Something like that would look great. Maybe not matte, though.
  14. I hope that some day the Chargers get a powder blue alt helmet. It’d be super unique, and I like the Chargers better in a helmet that isn’t white. The white helmet on top of the powder jersey and gold pants is a bad look now and was a bad look back in the day. It looks disjointed and cheap. I know, not a popular opinion.
  15. Yeah there’s something about both the home and road set that just looks kind of off. I wonder if instead of using all that blue, if burgundy breezers and helmets would help? It might balance it out a bit more, but you’re still going to have those two colors competing against each other. The more I see the Avs in their current form, the more I just wish they would bring back the black equipment. It better hides the flaws that uniform set has imo.
  16. Yeah I never understood what their angle was wearing a black vest in the first place, but it was even more odd when they paired it with the matching sleeves. The most baffling thing is they kept it around for nearly two decades. I’ve always had this suspicion that they wanted to initially pair it with purple sleeves/socks and black pants, but chickened out at the last minute.
  17. Oh, thank you little baby Jesus I may or may not have spontaneously combusted had he signed with Kansas City.
  18. Chris Mortensen has passed away. Bummer. He had been sick for a long time, but this is still sad. Met him when I was a kid and he signed an ESPN jersey for me. Still have it hanging in my closet.
  19. I have to wonder though if local corporate money would be an issue with SLC. I don’t have any real idea what their corporate base is out there, but for a place like Sacramento, that’s probably the very biggest hurdle. The biggest employer in the city is the state government, and there really isn’t much in terms of large corporations willing to throw their money at a pro sports team. Sacramento Republic had a lot of issues, but that lack of local corporate support is probably what ultimately killed their MLS bid. I would assume Salt Lake is going to run into similar problems. Their biggest employer (as far as I know) is the state university system, and the only very big companies around are places like US Magnesium which… Yikes. You do NOT what someone like that as your primary sponsorship partner. Also, similar to Vegas is, lol, water. That’s going to be an issue eventually with that rapid growth. Like I said before, we REALLY don’t need MLB expansion. It’s already bloated.
  20. You’re completely right about the San Diego thing. Them wearing those bright colors and still looking washed out because they’re crammed under a transitional sun shade and some LED lights feels like an instant reminder of how much of a mistake that whole move was. That’s definitely an aspect. I had the hardest time putting my finger on what it was that I find about their unis to be so off putting, but that has to be at least a part of it. I don’t necessarily mind bright colors, I just feel that they’re more difficult to pull off and stand out like a sore thumb when you’re bad. And while I get you on the being “fun bad” thing, I respectfully don’t agree with your conclusion. There was nothing “fun” about those 90s Bucs teams. They even darkened the orange which made it even more depressing (which I think was a mistake, but they didn’t want to pay to replace it so they just Sacramento Kings’d it and went with it). I watched a lot of awful Bucs seasons with n my 20s, but I always thought hey at least the logo is cool and the unis are fun. When they’re bad, they just feel kinda campy, like the Pirates of the Caribbean ride set Disneyland. That’s awesome!
  21. The Eagles changing back to Kelly green is a tough one for me. I feel like that particular shade would get old after awhile in a way the midnight green hasn’t. It’s similar to the Chargers current change. Like most people, I was DYING for them to ditch the navy and just go powder and gold. But after seeing it for a few seasons? I kinda hate it. It looks washed out and kind of frilly. I know that’s not a popular opinion, but I miss them having a splash of navy to ground that set a bit better. Lighter colors in football are just hard to pull off in general imo. It looks fresh and clean, but it doesn’t fit the feel of the sport that well (imo), and grows old pretty quick I think. It’s one of the (many) reasons why I don’t want the Bucs to ever switch back to the throwback unis full time. They look bright and fun for a game or two, no doubt. But sit through a few ten loss seasons in that pastel 70s kitchen look and tell me it doesn’t get old fast.
  22. Well, Pac Bell Park was part of a greater revitalization plan for the entire area, but it basically covered the entire stretch on the Embarcadero down to the Ferry Building. In that sense, yes. Absolutely. That stretch was old industrial ports that weren’t being used anymore. I think the issue here is revitalization vs gentrification. China Basin is definitely the latter, if that’s what you mean. The entire city is, though.
  23. Yeah China Basin (the neighborhood where the park is) was basically skid row prior to construction. The only thing that was really there was the Pacific Bell building (where my parents met) and homeless drug addicts. It was Kensington on a smaller, 80/90s scale. Now it’s admittedly more “sleepy” than you would expect for a downtown ballpark, but that’s because it’s like five blocks from Market. It’s also one of the most expensive areas in the city now in terms of real estate.
