  1. In USPORTS changes, Ryerson University in Toronto officially changed their name this past April to Toronto Metropolitan University following five or six years of discussions and last year's discoveries of residential school mass graves in Canada because of the Egerton Ryerson's, the school's namesake, involvement with the introduction of the residential school system. As part of the changes, they are changing the name of the sports teams and the mascot. They were the Rams and the mascot was a ram named Eggy, taken from Egerton. They narrowed it down to three names and six mascots and allowed for community feedback up until like two weeks ago when they closed the response form. The three names are Bold Meteors Towers The six mascots are Bee Caribou Meteor Moose Squirrel Tower Here's the website where you can read the reasoning behind all the choices.
  2. I see that the AHL schedule was released a couple days ago which includes the new Calgary team showing they are playing in Calgary and the Calgary release says they will be playing at the Saddledome. The WHL schedule was released a month ago showing the Hitmen still playing in the Saddledome and last year's NLL schedule wasn't released until September so it appears we won't know the Roughnecks schedule for a bit, but looks to me that there are going to be four teams running out of the Saddledome now. There's also some double bookings right now between the Flames, the Hitmen and the AHLers. We'll see how that goes and how much people take to the AHL team. However, there's been absolutely nothing other than that, to my knowledge, that I have heard about this team. Not that I'm a Flames fan nor an AHL fan, but I am local to Calgary. Looking right now, the Flames Twitter account made a post about the AHL schedule release and tagged the Stockton Heat account. The AHL website uses the Flames logo. Tuscon's schedule release video just says Calgary instead of listing an arena name like they do for the other teams. There'll have to be a name and logo announcement soon-ish, right?
  3. Apropo of nothing, and I am probably just showing my childhood nostalgia, there is something about the Stinger logos and the original Blue Jackets logo/brand that I miss. I don't think they are all that good of logos, but I like them. Looking at the NHL shop right now, there's a decent amount of clothing with this logo on it.
  4. As a Jets fan, these were pretty much inevitable so I guess they are fine for what they are? I do actually like the black/green/white colour scheme hierarchy and the look of the green facemask on the black shell, but just not for the Jets. Flipping the JETS and the outline colours is dumb because the numbers on the black jersey are the opposite, but I could see them feeling there wasn't enough green on the helmet with the normal white JETS decal. There is this note, probably already been discussed, at the end of the reveal release, A lot of Jets fans have been clamouring for any of the 78-97 throwbacks (which I think actually fit these current Jet jerseys better than the current logo) so I could see these black ones being eventually switched out for throwbacks, maybe even after this season.
  5. Some people on Reddit is claiming this is the Stamps new Black Alts/Outlaw/Labour Day jerseys.
  6. To my knowledge and from what I have seen (or more like haven't seen), these were retired a couple of years ago. They don't wear them anymore.
  7. That looks okay to me. I think "Warriors" is a vague enough name that the plane kind of works. For as simple as these jerseys are, they are still an insane upgrade over the previous jerseys. The old Warriors logo was a relic of an older time and was insanely outdated and bad, regardless of the Indigenous logo controversy, I'm not sure about retaining the moose logo (which I thought was going to be the new primary) as a shoulder patch since it is such a different style of logo and the inclusion of the maple leaves to "honour our Canadian history" is dumb as all get out considering they play in the Canadian Hockey League with 51 other Canadian teams.
  8. The Ice Hogs name/brand has some cachet (or at least has been around for some time) and with everything surrounding the Blackhawks over this past season and the Indigenous naming controversy, I'm not surprised they didn't switch. That new logo stinks. The old one was more fun.
  9. The Stamps were in their previous away jerseys yesterday, so no apparent change there which is no fun.
  10. ^^^^^^^ What an absolute gongshow this whole rebrand was. And it's abundantly clear, as pointed out by many people, that the Jazz realized how badly they screwed it up.
  11. This is from Eric Stephens' Athletic mailbag two weeks ago.
  12. It'll just be a retread of when the Angels were looking to move out of Los Angeles in the 60s. "It's like poetry, they rhyme" *I have seen both "Southern California" and "California" used in these anecdotes, so I don't know which one officially Autry wanted to go with.
  13. I was at the game, Stamps wearing the retro jerseys as expected but no mention of anything, and the Stamps also added a helmet stripe too. In person, both team's helmet stripes seemed really thin, especially from a distance. The Stamps one flares out at the back and has black outside strokes.
  14. As someone who decided to try to follow the NBA and become a Jazz fan a couple years ago (maybe four or five at this point) but did not really follow the league nor the Jazz at all this season, if these are the jerseys, I think I honestly might be done as a Jazz fan. I can't say I really missed following the NBA this season due to everything else going on in my life (and it already was a distant fourth of the Big4 and then a distant sixth if you include the CFL and Junior hockey) and this might be the sign that I should be done with the NBA, plus with the Jazz recent on-court failures and whatever is going on behind the scenes, I don't know if I want to get more invested again. These jerseys stink.
  15. I think it's alright. Definitely an improvement over the old one which had way too much writing on it. I do think it looks weird that the S-river overlaps the rest of the logo, probably would look better if it was contained within the inner blue circle similar to the 73-79 logo. I also don't really think I like the amount of grey. I remember reading somewhere, but I can't find it now, is the Sags logo supposed to be a blueberry?
  16. I think you two just verbalized my issues with the jerseys when they were leak. They are nice jerseys, but they don't really feel like City Connects (for better or worse) because they aren't connecting to a city. It does just look like a fauxback or if the PCL Angels decided to get wild. They had two cities to pick from, went the safe route by picking neither and going with a general area theme which both the Anaheim teams already have "claimed", but yet still picked the one city that fits the City Connect concept/the "meaning" of the jersey the least (see my post at the top of this page). I'm not saying they needed to have an anthropomorphic orange surfing while wearing Disneyland Mickey ears, but I think there's a certain level of connection to the city/area missing (mostly because they don't have a city to connect to).
  17. It's weird. I think it's also weird that the shirseys are red and not the cream.
  18. I do like these. I've always been anti-blue for the Angels, so I'm not a huge fan of the blue numbers, especially given how red the rest of the jersey is. My biggest issue is the Los Angeles sleeve patch. I think it's a wild move for this to be the first jersey appearance of "Los Angeles". It's a City Connect jersey, but they went with the surfing SoCal connection which would make sense given the reticence of the Angels to use Los Angeles anywhere, especially at home, and Arte probably wouldn't want an Anaheim themed jersey, so SoCal is a nice middle. But the Los Angeles patch is weird because the jersey doesn't reference Los Angeles (or Anaheim for that matter) at all. So it's a City Connect that doesn't directly reference either city the team is connected to and the release speaks to "Southern California", but they still went with the first appearance of the city least represented by the City Connect.
  19. Been hot on the case and found this tweet from May. Using those for the TSN shoot? Interesting. If these are the new primaries I think it's a huge improvement, especially dropping the black, but I do wish they had switched out the retro logo on the sleeves for the horse because there's now three different "primary" logos. I also wonder what the white's are going to be.
  20. Stamps wearing the 75ths again today, this time on the road with Edmonton in their new whites at home. This year's headshots are in the 75ths as well. The main problem right now is that they are wearing the red pants from the previous (current?) away set and red socks, so it's colour rushing (and those red pants don't have any stripes on them).
  21. Well they've got 12 days to do that if that is the case and CSEC hasn't really been the type to surprise jersey launch. If anything, they're the opposite.
  22. Yeah, I'm kind of whelmed by the Angels set. I'll have to see the full release, the explanation for everything and the merch, but I'm feeling just kind of "Oh, alright" about it right now. They at least look like a good/normal baseball jersey though. I think it's a real wild move for this jersey to be the first one they put "Los Angeles Angels" on if that is what the sleeve patch appears to have. Also will have to wait for the explanation, but this doesn't really look like a "Los Angeles" based jersey.
  23. FWIW, the Stamps are wearing the 75th anniversary jerseys in the preseason game today. From those jerseys making an appearance again, that lady at the locker room sale saying the black jerseys wouldn't be back, the (2012-2020, 2021-?) home and black alternates being 50% off for months now and no black in social media graphics, it really would lead you to believe that the Stamps are changing something... but nothing has been shown. They do appear to have gone back to the "regular" helmets again with the (Yankees/old Tigers-esque different logo) horse on both sides and removed the striping.
  24. It will be interesting to see how this shakes up the Calgary hockey and sporting scene. Will the Heat draw fans? How does this impact the Hitmen? How will it to a lesser extent impact the Roughnecks? Does this have any impact on the Jr. A Canucks?
