Thanks, @andrewharrington! Clarendon Condensed was pretty close, with only a few letters requiring modification.

So, does @CC97 really give a crap about the boards anymore? Or does he just toss his newsbot on us and forget that we exist? -

No ads on Firefox, either! -
I'd love to know if there's a font that closely resembles this one (curved lead-in to slab serifs, that spot on the end of the "R," and the right-heavy "A"):

Matrix Bold is a decent sports font, depending on the accompanying logo set and color scheme. Drop shadows really hurt the font, given the angular serifs. Sadly, Matrix almost always comes with shadowing.

Oldschoolvikings' NFL concepts - Commanders concept added
SFGiants58 replied to oldschoolvikings's topic in Concepts
It’s good on the silver pants, but not as good on the green. The blue blurs too much with the green. Might a white outline on the striping pattern (a la the throwback) work? -
I finished it, and I really liked it! The producers made fantastic use of interviews and archival materials, such as the prison phone calls and the perspectives of his family and friends. My one point of contention is that the show brings up the first public discussion of Hernandez’s sexuality (on a TV interview with an author) right before describing the night of Hernandez’s suicide. I get why it was done (chronological reasons), but the juxtaposition of the two events seems a bit iffy. Maybe it’s just me, I don’t know. Still, I recommend the podcast to anyone with an interest in the case. I’d also recommend Last Podcast on the Left’s Chris Benoit episode for a similar discussion (albeit with far more dark humor about wrestling’s professional culture, YMMV with some of it) about sporting culture, CTE, and the public response to athletes committing murder.

Players on the "RIGHT" Team, but "WRONG" Uniform

It was in that outfit that he received the honor of becoming a minifigure: Yes, that's the face they went with for him. -

Fixed for accuracy. Likewise, I’m sure they’ve got Houston Candymen buried in a shed. -

I’m just waiting for the Springfield (Illinois) Clowin’ Pogos. You know Brandiose has that identity prepared. -

I’m glad they ditched the overdesigned previous identity (was I the only one who hated it?), but this is a bit of an overcorrection with a poor gimmick in the “Nash” wordmark. I still like the scripts and “N” insignia. -
I’m a big fan of MLB block standard (regular and the serif version the Twins and retro Brewers use), while also liking Wilson varsity (what the Tigers, Braves, Yankees, and Padres use) to an extent. The only block font I really have a problem with in the majors is the Nationals, as thin logos/scripts don’t mesh well with thick slab-serif numbers. Block Standard or Wilson Varsity would improve the look.

I’m listening to Gladiator, a podcast produced by Wondery and The Boston Globe’s Spotlight Team on Aaron Hernandez. It’s a well-produced true crime story, examining Hernandez’s life and the different factors that played into his development as a football player and the lead-up to his arrest.

I wish the Ottawa Senators would change their name to the Centurions. The Roman theme has the potential to be far more distinctive than any barberpole or “O” variant used by either the original or modern team. Just go all-in on it. The name Ottawa Senators should occupy the same historical dustbin as the New York Americans, Philadelphia Quakers, and Quebec Bulldogs. Sure, they won a bunch of Stanley Cups, but they didn’t have the power to outlast the Great Depression like the six surviving pre-1967 teams. Let the name fade into the past, while keeping their color scheme and minor allusions to that history.

I must admit that some teams pulled off the look pretty well. Road pinstripes really only work when the design of the lettering is simple. The Twins, Padres, and Pirates all have single outlines, with the Twins matching the pinstripe and outline color. However, complex designs look terrible with road pinstripes. The multiple outlines/shadows of the Angels and Diamondbacks, as well as the inlays of the Rockies, clutter things up. The Diamondbacks look particularly bad, downplaying a big part of their color scheme (turquoise) and switching emphasis away from their unique purple shade towards black. While I'm a big black/turquoise/copper guy for Arizona, I don't think black was used well from 1998-2006.

Don’t the Blues only exist because the Wirtz family wanted to unload the aged St. Louis Arena on some schmucks? -
Put it in royal/kelly, stick a 2D Ottawa Centurion-style version of Johnny Canuck on the shoulders, and you’ve got the best the Canucks have ever looked (with some slight modernizations that don’t involve Agency font a.k.a. sports’ Times New Roman).

I’d have just gone with trim stripes like the Orioles. Thick, but not too thick. Most importantly, white would still be a trim color (black/white/black). Pair that with the sock diamond and the “Chicago” cursive script, and you’d be set.

The A's should bring back the white coaches' caps/helmets, with grey equivalents for their road uniforms. Since coaches aren't sweating as much as players, darkening crowns isn't an issue. Heck, '47 Brand already mocked up a modernized version:

Can we please get the "stadiums/arenas that need a renovation" thread restored to the Goldmine? It's been long enough since the events of the thread, and it kind of blows that such a fascinating board moment is inaccessible. -

Players in the "wrong" uniforms

It doesn’t feel wrong to me. I wanted the whole team gone after the reverse-sweep. Trade and release the rotten core, while building towards a new generation. Marleau is a good guy, but he needed to leave to help the franchise reboot. My only regret is that Joe Thornton didn’t sign with another team. I really don’t want his quasi-dirty play on the Sharks anymore. -
