  1. Quite literally what I had going on in my head! Perfect!
  2. No arguments here. A nice, classy, clean look. All that is needed is a sleeve patch of some sort, and more navy on the collar. A shame it's getting thrown in the trash bin after only a few years.
  3. If anything, as others have said, this should have been the primary road jersey from day 1. Hopefully this will replace the bone jersey somewhere down the road. Still a bit too designer fashion-esque with the patch and the extra details, so it comes off as somewhat over designed. And every time I look at the number font I seem to like it less. Not a complete letdown, I think it is an upgrade over the leaked jersey shown. It should be somewhat of a hit with the fanbase. I might be in the minority with this, but I think this look would be vastly improved with the yellow and blue inversed on the sleeves. I have always thought that the yellow sleeves look somewhat off. I understand issues with the yellow horns on a white background causing visibility issues, but I think it would be worth an attempt. Something similar to this look by Chris Ramirez on Behance, but replace colors/font/etc. with the current versions:
  4. Fill in the white space on the pants with black, and this uniform is near perfect! I have to say I'm surprised, but in a pleasant way. Their current set, as a whole, has way too many gimmicks, but this is a rather restrained look compared to what I was expecting them to unveil. This is what really should by the road uniform, rather than the mismatching bone uniform. I'll wait to voice anything else until the official unveiling, but it could have been much, much worse.
  5. Honestly, I am ok with this. More throwback options are back in the mix, and with the ability to add in some alternate looks, we should get some more intriguing options. I fear for the lack of restraint, but as long as teams are wearing their primary helmets more, I am fine with it. Great to see this happen. Here is a list of a few teams that I think could take advantage of this rule right off the bat, not including throwbacks: -Los Angeles Chargers (navy color rush) -Los Angeles Rams (whatever god-awful idea they will come up with next year, unless if they do a throwback) -Cincinnati Bengals (white jersey/pants, the white tiger idea seems to be pretty popular, this would be the perfect time to pull it out). -Dallas Cowboys (white color rush) -Buffalo Bills (red helmet could be mixed in with the red color rush uniform) -Washington FT (could have something planned with the alternate along with their redesign) -New York Jets (black alternate) While we have seen throwback helmets before, I don't think we have seen a true alternate helmet worn as a widespread idea in the NFL (I believe the Saints tried the alternate helmet idea decades ago as part of the preseason). Seeing where modern design trends have gone, this was bound to happen when the one-helmet rule was lifted. I still expect to see throwback helmets make up the majority of the looks under this rule though.
  6. Same thing has been happening in the NBA. Sponsorships are like an addiction: it only takes a "let's just try it out" before the owners become hooked on more money. The helmet ads aren't going away, much like how I expect the NBA to keep court sponsorships and digital ads on TV broadcasts. This is not a road we are coming back from.
  7. The Clippers at least showed a bit of restraint with their design. The Nets went a little too wild, even with the full full inspiration taken into account. The wordmark makes me want to ram my head into a brick wall every time I see it.
  8. Nike: What would you like on your Anniversary jersey? Just a simple mashup... Mavericks: Yes
  9. It doesn't help that their City uniform, for as much as I kind of enjoyed it, looks almost exactly like a stock car/NASCAR scheme.
  10. Figured it was close enough to next season to post this (playoffs and all). Milwaukee Bucks have found a new sponsor and, surprise, it's Motorola... again... as if 2 teams wasn't already enough Bucks sell jersey patch sponsorship to Motorola (biztimes.com) Can we just stop the ad patches already? They are somehow getting worse, as if their mere presence wasn't bad enough.
  11. These new Puma jerseys remind me of the t-shirts Nike pushed out for college/pro football teams a few years ago: Look, I appreciate the attempt at being unique, but if I've learned anything from the last few months about soccer, is that the tradition of the game (including basic jersey design and placement) is untouchable.
  12. I know I've tooted this horn plenty of times, but I'll always maintain the position that the City edition and it's rotation of one year is bad for this reason exactly.
  13. Yes, but most of these changes happened with relocated teams, or ones without as much history. I can really only think of two/three with complete rebrands in their same city, all in the NBA: -New Orleans Hornets rebrand to Pelicans when Tom Benson took over. -Charlotte Bobcats rebrand to Hornets when name was made available with the Pelicans dropping it (although it could be much more of an "update" since the Hornets name had history in Charlotte). -Washington Bullets rebrand to Wizards after a close friend of the then-owner Abe Pollin was assassinated. The franchise, however, had only existed for 30 years or so at the time, although they had won a championship under the name. I think the Washington Football Team case is distinct from these since the history of the team is both much more prestigious and long (almost 90 years at this point). And unlike the other changes mentioned here, the owners were more willing to change the name. My point being is that Washington as a franchise has a rich traditions that fans will find hard to drop, and a complete rebrand in terms of colors/name/logo/etc. is near impossible with their owner being very hesitant to change in the first place. I do believe that the burgundy/yellow will stay, as a sort of olive branch to the fans, and a consolation prize for Snyder. It's not a matter of if they can choose to disconnect from their past, because they can act like it, but rather the fact that the fans and Snyder won't let it happen. And even if the franchise completely dropped all ties back to their former name, there will be a very vocal and loyal crowd who won't let it die, as has already happened. This is much more than just a rebrand, it's a delicate process of reinvention.
  14. I like Wild Hogs as a dark horse. I'm not usually into wacky/wild names, but I think this one works as a nice fan tribute. Griffins, Aviators, Riders, and Wolves/Redwolves also work pretty well IMO. The rest either don't fit (Royals/Monarchs) or are just bizarre. My number 1 choice would be Warriors, but with all the backlash I've been seeing from that name, it looks like it won't make the cut. It's a shame, because there is so much you can do with that name.
  15. I unsurprised that we have come back to this topic, so I guess I will thrown in my 2 cents: -Gray facemasks only really work with traditional-style looks or teams with silver/gray in their color scheme. -Chargers need to be in powder blue. Their current yellow facemasks make the uniform too yellow-heavy -Vikings look fine in black -Browns look really good in brown facemasks, gray is also good, white seems a bit dated at this point. -Bills moving away from gray is unfortunate, especially considering that there is another white on white team in the AFC East (Dolphins). I do think that they would look really good in blue facemasks (see the early 80's look for the team:)
  16. I would go with more of a Notre Dame gold flake finish. Blingy enough to be tied to a Las Vegas team, but not as ridiculous as chrome.
  17. I feel like I'm about to rustle some feathers, but I also somewhat liked the Jags' pre-Nikefied uniforms, worn for their first year with Nike. They were pretty much the more detailed version of their current set, albeit with the awesome teal-flake helmet.
  18. I’ll be honest, going back and seeing the old set makes me think it wasn’t too far off from being good. Changing the helmet to either completely matte or gloss black, and then eliminating some of the reliance on black, and you’ve got a solid set. The two-tone helmet really ruined it though.
  19. They are definitely different enough compared with each other. Lighting may make them look similar sometimes, but still noticeably different.
  20. This certainly is an interesting suggestion, but I feel that if they go this route, they would look too similar to the other teal team in the league, the Dolphins. I would keep the black jerseys/pants because they help to differentiate them from their similarly-colored, in-state companions.
  21. I don't think its bad, especially for an AHL team, although I think black breezers would have worked wonders here. The dark gray feels somewhat off.
  22. I haven't checked this thread in awhile, and this has probably been said plenty of times, but here goes. I believe the current Dolphins set is one of the best they have ever worn, and they should never switch back to the throwbacks as a full time option. I know how much the throwback sets get brought up here, but I think they are just too dark and stiff for a city like Miami. The current look, while maybe too streamlined sometimes, has a better color scheme, good logo, and simple uniforms that utilize all those elements to *almost* perfection. It's crisp, clean, and, to an extent, classy. I understand that it may be over-modernized, but I don't think the throwbacks are a better set, even with all the history behind them. Let it stick around as a throwback, where the heritage behind it can be recognized. As a whole, I have never been a fan of teams switching back to throwback sets for the sake of popularity. IMO, if teams want to switch back, there needs to be some modernized elements mixed in. Teams like the Blue Jays, Astros, Padres, Brewers, Maple Leafs, Browns, Chargers, Buccaneers, 76ers, Wizards, etc. are the blueprints for taking a popular throwback look, and fixing elements to make a more appropriate for a modern environment. Not that all throwback looks are bad, but I feel that every rebrand needs a step forward, whether it be big or small. Of course this isn't the case for every team. For example, the Flames recent redesign maybe be a full throwback, but it feels much better than what they wore previously.
  23. Its been months since anything has been put here, but I found a doozy. Carolina Predators of the American Arena League decided to rip off Cal Poly AND Fraser Davison's Carolina Panthers concept (dude can't catch a break). I would also imagine there might be some concern from the Panthers themselves, given that the logo is extremely similar to theirs and they are even within the same state. Just yikes all the way around.
  24. Honesty I wouldn’t have as much of an issue with the Cyclones’ black uniforms if they incorporated some cardinal/yellow, but that fact that it’s just black/white/gray and has no school colors make me upset for how much they wear them, and for their biggest games too. I would hope you would want to pull out at least a little bit of the school colors for championships and bowl games.
  25. Let me just mention how uncomfortable Washington State's uniforms today make me. White helmet w/ gray logo, white jersey w/ red numbers/lettering, anthracite pants. Absolute mishmash, all because of that little cougar head.
