  1. 2 years later.... seems like the re-return of the XFL is starting to gear back up for 2023. XFL twitter page has blacked out their profile pic and banner, and tweeted out what seems to be a hint at a new logo coming tomorrow. Very interesting move here. I would venture to say this could also mean something bigger. I doubt a name change, but we will see.
  2. Just about what I was going to say. Adidas/Inter has fumbled the ball so much on it, so for City of Angels to go out and do something solid on their first try is a great example of what Inter has failed to do. This might be my only gripe with the kit. It's a confusing style choice, but outside of that, it's a solid shirt.
  3. Interesting development here. Rapids posted a video on their social media, and it has a very brief look at what appears to be a new Adidas GK template? I've haven't seen this particular design before so I wouldn't be surprised. Has this been seen with any other teams yet?
  4. I have to say, I like the idea of the Timbers rose kits and the color scheme. I am not a fan of how they were executed. The design just looks off somehow, probably the how the rose graphic is displayed. Would have loved to see a more subtle approach here, or a less dense graphic.
  5. I can't be the only one who thinks there is too much of a reliance on embossed designs. I love the idea; it allows for some nice creativity without making something too crazy, but it also makes shirts look plain at a distance, and without the right lighting. With the amount of similar templating and embossed graphics in this year's crop, I feel like it's just going to be a constant sight of plain jerseys running around. It's such a shame because the patterns this year are amazing. Maybe a more sublimated/tonal approach (see Timbers home jersey) would help out a bit. Or, Kansas City's design would be improved if the state lines were light blue pinstripes, IMO
  6. On one hand, the Commanders are part of a multi-million/billion-dollar league that thrives off of merchandising and is contracted with a company that looks for any excuse to throw something new out on the market. On the other is a new league that needs uniforms for teams to play with, and only needs a few signature details to help make each team distinct. The Commanders certainly could learn a lesson or two from the USFL. Along that topic, here's my (preliminary) ranking: 1: Generals 2: Stars 3: Bandits 4: Breakers 5: Stallions 6: Panthers 7: Gamblers 8: Maulers I appreciate the creativity and distinctness they tried to give each of the teams. The league as a whole has some fantastic, not overdesigned, helmets. There's just a lot of red and black, and there's only so much they can do with that. The Blitz, Bulls, Gold, Invaders, Express, Federals, and Gunslingers brands could have helped with that, hopefully we see some of them pop up down the road. One thing I am interested in is how it will interact and compete with the XFL (when it relaunches next year). I'm fairly convinced there's only one spot open for a mainstream alternative football league. Not sure if the single hub city concept will pull them through. Of course, I could be surprised, so I'll sit back and see what happens.
  7. I think there were gold pants in the Birmingham video but they were 1: a very pale shade, and 2: not featured in the photo for some reason.
  8. I think it was just a reference to the pink color more than anything else. It's going to be a rather plain jersey, but I think the pink will make up for it.
  9. The shirt reminds me of 90s design, but in a good way. Glad to see Adidas branching out a little bit with their shirts.
  10. Holy moly, that is gorgeous! Might be one of the best kits in recent MLS history. Just goes to show you don't need to overthink things for them to look good.
  11. Is this the right place to put this? Ah, whatever. I have a proposition to the Reese's Senior Bowl: Y'all already have some great college themed branding with the new Fighting Cuppies stuff. THROW CUPPIE ON THOSE JERSEYS! It would at least liven up the cookie-cutter Nike stock you dress in now (although they could do much worse). Adidas also did a bit of better job leaning into the Reese's branding, even if it was subtle. I mean, look at the cup on the sleeves!
  12. I think, relatively speaking, China's sweaters are some of the best of this Olympic bunch. The subtle pattern in the chest stripe is a cool detail. Now, if Nike would stop using the same exact font for every team every Olympics, that would be a step in the right direction. I'm not looking for every team to have a custom font, but opening up 2, 3, or 4 options would really help, for both summer and winter purposes.
  13. Olympic competition has kicked off, and Canada's women's team wore the black alternates first. Gotta say, these are hard to watch on television. It doesn't even really look like Canada. At the very least, its begging for more white. Don't even get me started on the black crest on the black background.
  14. If they were wanting a black military-esque uniform, the gloss black helmet looks out of place. Why not go all in? Use a textured finish like Ohio State or a matte finish. I will say, I am a fan of the satin burgundy helmet. It adds some visual intrigue, although it should have been better dressed for the (awful) road jersey.
  15. "Truly epic" "Bold and confident" "Gotta have some swag" "Rep us" Oh boy this is getting worse by the second. Since they have a middle schooler as an owner, might as well use the proper language, right?
  16. I'm guessing it's a way to entice fans to buy more jerseys? Fans might be more open to buying a new jersey if every one looks different. This is all speculative, of course, but I guess its a way to add a more "collectible" function than what jerseys already have. Another theory is that it makes jersey changes easier. If a certain jersey isn't received well or doesn't sell, they could just drop it and replace it without having to worry about the other jerseys and changing their look. Probably even more appealing with the new 2-helmet system. The last possible explanation is Nike wanting to throw every one of their ideas onto a jersey and seeing if it works. As we all know, Nike is no stranger to just throwing something out there, even if it means they will change 5 years later because they can.
  17. Home: Like the Rams, is pretty much alright, but needs a couple of elements tweaked. In this case, it's the overly big and awkward wordmark. Still by far the best jersey of the 3. Away: Also like the Rams, the away jersey is just way too overdesigned. Gradients, black, the Titans-like swoosh colored like it was a last thought, just all awful. At least it's not some sort of "command beige" color or something like that. Third: I don't hate the design, but I hate the fact it's tied with this team. It's more at home as a Military Appreciation fashion jersey than as a BFBS alternate. It's too gimmicky to look right on an NFL field. Looks like I guessed it, the NFL and Nike have reached a stage where everything needs to look different. No consistent design anymore, and it just looks all awful. If this was a blind test without any identifiers/logos, I would say that all three of these jerseys are from 3 different teams. I'm curious to see what the helmets and pants look like, although I'm not hopeful. This just all another overdesigned, overthought mess.
  18. WFT was already the butt of many jokes. If they had any plans to keep that name around, they quickly scrapped it. No one took the name seriously, and it always felt like a place holder. Could there be better names than Commanders for them to choose? For sure. Wolves would have been cool, legal problems aside. Commanders I think is good enough to work; it feels just professional to feel at home in the NFL. It might have been a safe choice, but I can understand why that is.
  19. As a former football player/athlete myself, any new uniform gets players excited, not just the good ones.
  20. I'm not buying it, something seems off. No official NFL tags, and the font looks way too comical for the NFL/Nike to approve. This just reeks of off-brand design. Does Sport-Tek even have an NFL license? And if this is just a custom product with the "actual" name, I'm not convinced either. Everything we have seen so far doesn't really lean toward Red Hogs being the name.
  21. How about the 1990 Freedom Bowl? Colorado State vs Oregon with the Ducks in their retro kelly green/yellow set, and the Rams in some gaudy yellow jerseys. An old youth football coach of mine actually played in this game. What an eyesore of a matchup though, almost an inter-team scrimmage given the same colors and inverted usage of them.
  22. I think it has to do with the fact that, in relation to other soccer/football leagues, the MLS is rather small in its market share. They probably don't make enough in jersey sales to warrant a third kit for every team, unlike larger leagues with larger followings, even amongst their smaller teams. Would a third jersey with every team increase jersey sales? Maybe. But I don't think there really is enough "franchise" players that are instantly recognizable in MLS to give them much motivation to do it.
  23. Looks like the NFL will roll with the uniforms that were supposed to be worn for last year's Pro Bowl this year. Essentially just a recolor of the uniforms worn back in 2020, now with Red/White/Blue.
  24. And they might have less of a claim on that statement than the Cowboys do on theirs, which is saying a lot.
