The 49ers laid an egg in Chicago so it was reasonable to think Seattle had a chance. And I bet had Lance stayed in, they may have. Anyway, the Broncos win was their Super Bowl for this season everything else is a march to a new QB next year. It's fine. FiddySicks
Yes he really was able to shed that “bust” status and have a full season where he didn’t throw a single TD pass to a wide receiver. Alex Smith was as mid as they come. No idea why people try to rehab that dude’s image. I guess because they feel bad for him? I dunno. Even with Harbaugh, they mostly still won in spite of him. Cujo
He got his career in order and led the 49ers to the NFCCG. And he wasn't just "game managing" when he did it. Also played at a high level in KC and was still viable when he finished up in Washington. He's by no means a HOFer, but he definitely wasn't a draft bust or career scrub.
SeaTac
Supposedlly the 49ers preferred Smith over Rodgers because Smith was more polite and respectful while Rodgers had that little bit of arrogance even back then.

I mean, I guess he “led” the 49ers to the title game, but that was more the defense. That one single game vs the Saints was probably the best performance of his entire career and he looked like the bolts were going to rattle loose while doing it. He’s Taylor Heinicke with better luck, if you will. As for playing at a “high level” in KC? Lol, ok. Like I said, he had a full season without a TD pass to a wide receiver and they dropped him like the mid he was when they brought in Mahomes. SeaTac
That Niners-Saints playoff game at Candlestick was one the loudest games ever. It's was roaring that day. Candlestick was shaking.

God, I miss that dump of a stadium. Also, I saw basically all of Alex Smith’s career with my own two eyes. There’s no way you’re ever going to convince me that dude wasn’t a huge bust. DEAD!
If Alex Smith was a bust, then he would only have been a bust for the 49ers. The Niners were the ones who chose Smith . That is on the TEAM. Yes, Smith wasn't great by any means, but I feel too often of the "bust" label puts too much of burden on the player. Had Smith had the same kind of career as a 2nd round pick, would we even be having this discussion? 4 Quote I saw, I came, I left.
SeaTac
The 49ers-Giants rivalry is very underrated. They had some great regular season battles but I believe they faced off in the playoffs like 8 or 9 times since 1981.

Hated it. 2002 was a fun one. The moment Strahan pointed to the scoreboard, you just knew SF would rally.

Had Smith had the same kind of career as a 2nd round pick, would we even be having this discussion? This is fair, and I’ll give you that. Problem with this, though? Niners decided to make him the first overall pick. I’ll agree that this is mostly on the 49ers for being straight dog at player evaluation (and it’s been this way since Debartolo up and bounced). But even as a “second rounder” it’s not like he was a memorable player. The only thing the first overall pick did was give the dude more chances than he probably deserved. And had he not been so sufficiently average with KC, and a bottom five QB making top five money with the Skins, I may feel differently. I don’t have anything personal against the dude. I just don’t think he was ever more than serviceable. 1 Quote On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) DG_YouKnowWhatThatMeans
Alex Smith's career: TD–INT:199–109 Passing yards:35,650 Completion percentage:62.6 Passer rating:86.9 3× Pro Bowl (2013, 2016, 2017) NFL passer rating leader (2017) 99−67−1 His SF record was far worse than his KC one. I could see why a 49ers fan wouldn't like him, but Smith had a fine NFL career. You'd want more for a #1 overall pick, but he's not David Carr, Tim Couch, JaMarcus Russell, Sam Bradford, or Baker Mayfield. 3 Quote 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags
