Here's a fun one: La Liga is sponsoring a club in the fifth tier of Welsh football and paid for a new town welcome sign because the town has several double-Ls in its name (the longest place name in the UK) and it matches up nicely with the league's new logo ...

More details on the mothership.

Ahh yes, good ol' Shonfire-pooshgweengish-gogerikhk-khweerndrobos-shondysilio-gogogohkh...

Fun fact: the "ll" in Welsh is actually a vowel sound that phonetically sounds similar to the English consonant blend "sh". And the eagle-eyed among you might notice smack in the middle of all that long town name are literally four l's (llll) right next to each other.

Fun fact #2: All that long name translates into "St Mary's Church in the hollow of the white hazel near the rapid whirlpool of Llandysilio (thats SHON-dee-silio) of the red cave".

(You don't wanna know how long it took me to learn much less get close to accurately pronouncing all that. 😁)

Aston Villa are going to ditch their new crest after only one season, and start consultations to come up with a new one in time for their 150th anniversary in 2024.

... [T]he club has been assessing the impact of the change from local, global and commercial perspectives and have concluded that the current crest has not had the impact which had been hoped when it was introduced.

They never should have changed to that. I'm guessing whomever wasn't consulted has been raising a stink. And the unintentional closeness to Chelsea doesn't help with Chelsea using chrome badges that change the colors as well.

It doesn't help that even the league, or the broadcast partners, won't update your logos.

But was it their actual new logo? They still have the shield crest on their website. In EA FC 24 they also use the shield logo.

I thought it was just for this year's kits.

My understanding was the roundel was completely replacing the shield when they made the change. Maybe I misread that.

Arsenal's women's team will not be wearing the same alternate jersey as the men. Stella McCartney assisted with the design. Apparently the jerseys have been "too clingy".

This is only slightly less sketchy than that brief era of every third club signing up a crypto token as a sponsor. How the mighty have fallen.

Noticed this from Dortmund just now, and while it's not a kits change or a logo change, necessarily, it is a whole tonal shift away from their "Echte Liebe" slogan of late, although one of the sweatshirts in the studio page linked at the bottom of this post still has that slogan. This new identity for Dortmund was done by British-based DesignStudio before the start of the Bundesliga season. More below:

bvb_custom_type_04.jpg

The typeface above was done in collaboration with French-based Blaze Type, and the sharp italics and some of the letterform treatments are inspired by the 34-degree slant on "The Yellow Wall", the famous all-standing section on the southern end of Signal Iduna Park.

These are what DesignStudio calls "intensity characters" and they are inspired by the yellow pylons on the roof of the 81,365-seat stadium.

There is plenty more on DesignStudio's page for this new identity of Dortmund's, including prototypes for merchandise (shirts, a beer can, tickets, etc.).

France's Ligue 1 is adding a gold badge to the jersey of the scoring leader each matchday. It will go above the player's name on the back of their jersey.

So this could change each week? Are they planning to use this as another way to sell jerseys?
