What other team has expressly used the “nighttime” as inspiration for their dark uniform? Sure, we’ve gotten a lot of dark monochrome uniforms, especially this year, but I believe this is the first one to explicitly say that the nighttime city lights were part of the inspiration. SportsFan12
I wish I could watch MLB Strike Zone on a Friday night and get to see teams wear their normal colors/uniforms. Three quarters of the games feature a City Connect. I wouldn’t mind them as much if they were worn more sporadically, but they seem to be more of a weekend thing and it gets so stale. The Blue Jays one is just like the Rays and is also not very legible.

FiddySicks
How many more of these do we have? Kind of ready for these to be done with, but I’m sure they’re all here to stay There’s so little of this that I actually like. Even the stuff I do, I still feel really ehh on. Tampa’s colors and BridgeRay logo may be the lone exception to that. 2 Quote On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) I don't believe the Mets' City Connect referenced the nighttime at all, even though it's the City That Never Sleeps. Their regular black alternate is probably a reference to the nighttime, but that's not monochrome black. Same goes for the Marlins, their City Connect definitely isn't inspired by Miami nightlife, although it could be. Their regular black alt is, though, you're right. Tigers, Rays, Mets and Blue Jays all feel way too similar with the mono black, dark gray, dark blue, etc, and are being worn way too frequently. Jays won tonight and will probably wear them again tomorrow like every other team seems to do.

I think had the league gone with something like a reverse retro like the NHL did (I get that it was a different company), I would’ve been a lot more receptive. Like, it’s a bit different and can be flashy, but still grounded in the tradition that baseball loves so much. Or, if they had done like a Turn Ahead The Clock: 2024 Edition and had gone with some of these more off the wall unis, I would’ve at least felt that it fit the fun, goofy vibe a lot better, and would come across cleaner. Instead, they basically tried to do the same thing they did with the NBA. They tried to take this all too serious, all too cool “city” vibe and it mostly just comes across as unserious and uncool. I don’t so much mind them doing that to the NBA, because at least basketball has a more wide history of out there uniforms/they’ve looked like for years already so what difference does it make. That and some of that wackiness, out there vibe just fits the NBA better. In contrast, I absolutely do mind them doing this to MLB, and I’m just praying that these are shelved at some point by someone with just a bit of common sense. 4 Quote On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) The Nationals have already announced this will be the final year of their cherry blossom uniforms, so it’s a safe bet they’ll be introducing a new design in 2025. It's based on the subway line, but I don't see anything on the reveal page mentioning the night as part of the inspiration. I get that the "night mode" theme has been prevalent in other sports (Lakers "Hollywood Nights," Colts "Indiana Nights"), but I find it hard to fault MLB when this is their first time going that route. I get that there have been a lot of dark monochrome uniforms, especially this year, but there have been plenty of bright City Connects as well, such as the Padres (which may even be too bright), Red Sox, Giants, Brewers, Braves, & Angels.

Digby
Jays CC would have been really nice without that horrendous skyline graphic, which belongs on t-shirts at best. Like many CC jerseys, it feels like maybe there's some interesting thought experiment about what a modernized baseball uniform should look like if not beholden to the sport's deep traditionalism, but one or two extraneous elements push it too far into Turn Ahead the Clock territory. I don’t believe it is, that shirt has been up for a while now. I would also be surprised if they go with something so similar to their regular “Twin Cities” home alternate color-wise.

But Beige/Sand, Light Blue, Navy and Red accents could be interesting. Official release is 6.10, but i bet something leaks this week. 2 Quote Store 1 Store
adsarebad
Jays looks like crap in all black ... at least wear white pants! But the worst is the sleeve ad patch, just destroys the whole jersey! and no, these are (look) black, no matter what those PR clowns claim. Bmac
That reminds me, I take it one-off TBTC uniforms are dead for the time being? I miss the occasional throwback game.
