wha...what's this I hear about the Colts sneakin outta Baltimore? :D

all joking aside, actually the old flying shield was the logo in question-the creator sued teh Ravens and won, hence the current raven. although I'm sorta indifferent about the current raven head, this one woulda served well.

They should have just offered a settlement, like season tickets.

This logo was part of the "stolen" package thus the don't use it anymore.

I believe the only logo that was stolen was the old shield logo.

This one - I think - was part of the original logo set, but when it came to coming up with a new logo, the owners wanted to have a Raven head logo that 1) had more Purple in it, and 2) had a "B" to represent Baltimore. This one - in their minds - wasn't something that could just work on its own.

Personally, I think they should have just tweaked this logo a bit and used it. It certainly seems like a better logo than the one they're using.

ummmm ok. but instead the guy got enough $$$ to be set for life and then some. i dont know about him, but id rather have the coinage than season tix. i could always buy season tix with the money. and by the way, i really like the current ravens logo, the unused one looks like a raven that ran into a window

If I Recall Correctly, the creator of the Ravens original logo got nothing, the Ravens said the logo doesn't make sales -- fans will buy merchandise regardless of the logo -- and the court agreed.

man gets $10 mil for stolen logo

this is stright from www.misterhabs.com, or helmets, helmets. i got this stright from a link on the SSUR page. can anyone confirm it?

The Ravens changed their logo in 1999 after losing a lawsuit. A local security guard named Fred Bouchat submitted a remarkably similar logo as part of a "name the team" contest. A jury awarded Bouchat $ 10 million and forced the Ravens to make a change. Bouchat's logo can be seen below.

click the link and youll see it

Okay I guess it was too subtle.

As to why there's no Baltimore on the Orioles uniforms? We don't know. Angelos is stupid. Probably so as not to exclude Washington fans, though I never understood that line of thinking with any team that does it, because it's not as if I would be like "what? Baltimore on road jerseys? They're excluding me! They don't care about me!" if I was an Orioles fan in Virginia, or Brewers fan further from Milwaukee.

the Cubs have CHICAGO on the roads. the Yankees have NY on the homes and NEW YORK on the roads. teh Red Sox have BOSTON on teh roads. Along the line of TCR's post, somehow I don't think a Cubs fan in Fargo, a Yankee fan in Akron or a Red Sox fan in Orlando feel excluded, or that their teams don't care about them ;)
