FiddySicks
I have two. Mike Alstott because of his play on the field and Mike Rouse of the Sacramento Rivercats because of his Dedication to his religon and a clean lifestyle. Alphabet Man
WomenCathy Freeman: The greatest race I ever witnessed wasn't Donovan Bailey's winning sprint in Atlanta 1996. It was Freeman's astounding 400m vistory in Sydney 2000. Watching her was almost surreal, and one of my greatest Olympic memories. i was there that night, four rows from the Olympic flame.... twitter.com/thebrainofMatt
Bleujayone
For me, it was always Doug Flutie. Here's a guy who was always told he was too small. No college or university shawe any interest in him. Finally Boston College gave him a chance, only for him to report in to find he was listed as a third team wide receiver instead of a quarterback! Throughout college, Flutie always amazed despite the neverending doubts of his size and ability. A quarterback who's heart is the biggest part about him.It has always been like that throughout both NFL stints. I thought the biggest slap in the face was when he was playing for the Bills, got them into the play-offs, made the Pro Bowl, got voted Comeback Player of the Year, and then to thank him they bench him for the playoffs so Rob Johnson could screw it up. You know, so called "Miracle in the Music City" game. You would have thought by that point it would have dawned upon people that one cannot have a carrer spanning 3 league and 2 decades without having talent. But for the most part, he's never shown any true bitterness. He still acts like playing football makes him the luckiest guys in the world. How often could you say you've met a pro athlete act like that? Personally I'd have hollering from the rafters, "What the HELL do I have to do to get some freakin' respect?!?" If nothing else he makes alot of sportscasters sound like blithering idots. I swear I'm gonna pop an anurism if I hear one more chuzelwitz say, "Sure he just threw another 50-yard bomb, but how can he see over the linemen, he's only 5'10"?' And he's a modest guy to boot. In the latest interveiw he gave after signing with the Patriots, he still sounds like he's having fun. I've had the pleasure of meeting him several times, and he's always had time for everyone. He's always seems to enjoy himself. I think his size is one of the reasons why many people like him. He's an averaged sized guy, he goes toe-to-toe with some of the biggest, meanest, behemoths and he not only survives but he succeeds. He's a walking talking sports fantasy for any Joe Average out there who dreams of hopping off the bench and throwing a touchdown in the big game. We all have our little faults. Mine's in California. Grandmaster C
Lou Gehrig and Cal Ripken Jr. They went to work everyday..whether they were sick, hurt or both. Cal Ripken Jr's always been my favourite athlete. His dedication to his work, for me, was inspiring cause it said to me "Hey, whatever happens, happens, just keep going and try your best." Back in the heyday of the streak, I wasn't at a really good point in my life, and that kinda dedication is part of what kept me going (that was just one thing of course). To this day, I still have this poster in my room right in front of me...And naturally, he was great on the field too where it counted. BelfourThibault
ED BELFOUR...my all-time favorite player in any sport. He's been the man since I was 11 (1991)Tony GwynnKurt WarnerBob Probert...he may have had his problems off-ice early in his life, but was able to turn it around. He may have fallen off the wagon after his career, but I've met him a few times, and you could never nicer man. I drove 3 hours to an autograph signing he was holding (free, I might add). I got there about 2 hours before the signing began, so was first in line. When he got there, he talked to me for a few minutes, then asked me if I could come back after the signing. I came back, and he talked to me for at least 20 minutes.Ozzie Smith...Can't help but love the greatest shortstop in history, especially when you're from St. Louis!
