The black on the Royals jerseys seems out of place. Perhaps returning to the powder blue schemes might make them winners again!

well since everyone is posting Royals concepts,i might as well post my idea

Again I was listening to the sports station in Kansas City today and they said the Royals were changing their uniforms for next year. The host said they were going to get rid of the black and were talking about making the trim the color of gold on the top of the crown logo. Pantone have you heard anything about this yet?

Since I saw you post the Royals baby blue from the 80s, I might as well ask Pantone here since it could be useful for others...

Did teams have different shades of powder/baby blue for their roads or was it pretty standard?

Pretty much - from what I've been told from a reliable source - is that most of them were 284 C.

(I don't think the MLB would mind me saying that - I hope).

The original Blue Jays' roads were a different shade though.

Thanks Pan... is it a similar story for the grey roads used today?

I was listening to a sports talk show this morning in Kansas City and the host mentioned that the Royals will be dropping all the black from their color scheme for next year. Has anyone else heard this?

If this is true...

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!

As long as the gold doesn't end up a trim color like the black :hockeysmiley: I don't mind the powder blues, I actually like them some what, I just don't think they look right w/buttons and belts. If they were to use it sparingly, like a Sunday road alt (finally, something that hasn't been done...yet) that would be okay, but just stick to the darker blue alternates only.

I've decided to give up hope for all sports teams I follow

There are about 4 or 5 different shades of Gray road uniforms being used. Although it's kind of hard to say for sure, since the MLB does not recognize road uniform colors as "official". The only way I know what these are are by the official artwork files...and even then, who knows what the teams are actually wearing? Are they following what's in the artwork files, or are the manufacturers (Majestic I guess) just picking something close? I don't know.

Personally, I would like to see the MLB Creative Services Dept. start enforcing standards on this aspect of uniform manufacturing that they are currently neglecting.

oz very very very nice. Id add the pant stripe, and those things would be awesome. Also Id try putting some blue arounf the Kansas City wordmark on the aways, reason being the consistency on the stripes and on the hat goes Blue, White, Blue.

Powder blue is sounding like a definite possibility for an alternate. Here is my correspondence with Jeffrey Flanagan of The Kansas City Star.

Subject: Royals Uniform Question

Hi Jeffrey. I've heard that the Royals are changing thier uniforms next

sesaon. The rumor is that they are dropping the black and adding gold

as a trim color. You are usually the first in the Kansas City media to

report this. Have you heard anything?

RE: Royals Uniform Question

They talked about that a lot last off-season and then it was vetoed up

top at the last minute. I'll snoop around if they're serious this time.

Thanks.

Thank you for finding out so quickly. I'm really interested to see what

the new uniform set will look like. Have you seen any sneak previews?

Actually, they're not really done with the design yet. But it will look a

lot like the 70s and 80s. Maybe even a powder blue....

Huzzah!

Although I still like my idea of adding a royal blue outline to the white "Royals" or whatever they might put on a powder blue uni. :D

From today's Kansas City Star

That column last week about the Royals changing their uniforms next season ? they?re junking the sleeveless shirts for a more traditional Royals look ? brought a high volume of response from fans who basically had one question:

Does this mean the Royals are bringing back the powder-blue road uniforms?

?Not at this point, sorry to say,? said Royals vice president of communications David Witty. ?But I can say we have had numerous discussions about the powder blues. In fact we just had one about a week ago.

?I would personally like to see them again.?

Witty said that the uniform changes for the 2006 season are all but set and the new uniforms will be unveiled sometime during the offseason. While the new uniforms will mark a return to a more traditional Royals look ? perhaps less of the black that was introduced three years ago ? the road uniforms will keep their gray appearance.

?There?s a lot to undertake to go with the powder blues,? Witty said. ?You?ve got to decide what to do with the shoes and the belts and so on. I?m sure the subject will come up again next spring, and it?s certainly possible we could have the powder blues as an alternate road uniform (for 2007).?

How tough is it to coordinate shoes / belts? Wouldn't the same belts from the home set work (assuming they're royal blue?)

There are about 4 or 5 different shades of Gray road uniforms being used.

Those five shades would be, I'm guessing, Dark White, Off White, Light Light Gray, Very Light Gray, and Faint Cool Gray.

I've seen photogs walking around RFK before games wearing vintage gray jerseys that were actually gray, as in "dark enough to distinguish from white at a distance in sunlight." Most contemporary road grays seem to lack that characteristic. Real gray looks good; MLB road gray is the result of someone not understanding the point of the two teams wearing different clothes.

Which is why the Padres are so awesome. Love it or hate it, their tan road uni is always easy to distinguish from the competition. The contrast issue is why I never make fun of powder blues or pinstriped roadies or dark-shirt road alts; ugly as any of those might be, they simply do the job of a road uniform better than the plain light gray jerseys most clubs wear on the road.

I dunno. Powder blue kind of scares me. I keep seeing the Padres Sand unis whenever i think of a roadie other than a grey one.
