Well, with right now looking like the west side stadium is going to fail the Jets are apparrently close to signing a lease to stay in Giants Stadium.

Jets near new lease at Giants Stadium

Yeah, there is no way that West Side Stadium is getting built. Of course, the Giants are getting a new stadium anyway soon.

Well that article makes it sound like there is no way they'd let 2 stadiums stay there. But of course they would and they'd just play on different days at home like they always have.

The Jets would finally get their own home, far cheaper than it would cost to build that stadium across the river and the Giants get their new park, too.

It won't cost the state anything and I figure that taxpayers would be happier with keeping a building they paid for - and that works just fine - from being destroyed before its paid off.

Ehh...if it means keeping the Olympics out of the city, then I'm more than okay with it.

Besides, the whole process seemed rigged from the start, and the idea of the cash-strapped MTA taking less than market value for such a prime piece of real estate like that was inane.

As badly as I wanted to be able to take the subway to see my favorite team, I didn't want to pay $10 to do so.

Hopefully this means the city will address more pressing issues, like new contracts for our cops and firefighters and teachers.

Well, I said all of long that this would fail. The top sports team in the area, The New York Yankees, tried for close to 10 years to build there new stadium on that exact site.

Personally I can't see why couldn't there be 2 stadiums at the meadowlands. They have already broke ground for the Newark Arena for the Devils. If the Brooklyn Arena falls through the Nets would move into there and be the Devils tenants than go back to an old Continental Airlines Arena. They could just knock down CAA and put a new stadium there.

I think however the Jets will end up building a stadium in queens with the Mets. There they should have little in the way of building it.

As of now it seems the only new sports facillity being built in the area is the Newark Arena.

The Continental Airlines Arena is going to become Xanadu, a big recreational facility with an indoor ski area or some crap.

The Nets will go to Newark. There is no way that arena in Brooklyn will get built. It was even more doomed than the MTA deal. The only sport Brooklyn would bend over backwards for is baseball. Bring the Dodgers back and I think people would be like ok. But that's not gonna happen in our lifetime.

I was under the impression that Xanadu would be built near the arena site and not on the arena site. I remember when things weren't looking good for newark that Xanadu might be the thing to breath new life in CAA.

I disagree. I think enough palms have been greased and enough compromises have been made that this Brooklyn Nets arena is going to get done. A great deal of the land it's going to get built on is privately owned and Bruce Ratner (the Nets new owner) has snatched up a vast majority of it. And just today, he made a deal with the city to set a certain percentage of the condominium space accompanying the project to low-to-middle income housing.

The opposition to and obstacles facing the Brooklyn project are nowhere near that of the Jets project. There are still a handful of City Council members and some NiMBys who oppose it, but there has been no mainstream, widespread opposition to this arena the way there has been for the Jets.

I, myself, was very ambivialent about the prospect of my favorite football team moving to my city, yet I have much fewer reservations about my favorite basketball team moving mere blocks from me.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

So you actually think the taxpayers should have to fork over $1,000,000,000 for an Og Damn football stadium??

You are insane and have your priorities so seriously messed up they'll never get back into anything even remotely resembling proper order.

Well I am. How about you chip in for the stadium if you want it so bad?
