southpawstu19 Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 what role does the horse play in the pistons logo
brennus Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 When did they use it, like late 90's? I don't even know.... I didn't like it.
officeglenn Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Pistons --> engines --> cars --> horsepower <-- Motor City <-- DetroitAnd technically, it's still part of their package today, but not as prevalent as back when they were wearing the teal jerseys.
DEAD! Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 When did they use it, like late 90's? I don't even know.... I didn't like it. It was mid-90's, around 1996 maybe? I recall being in Michigan around that time and seeing all the new Pistons logo merchandise. I still want the horse to be part of the identity. I think it still works for them. I saw, I came, I left.
HowBoutThemFins Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 And technically, it's still part of their package today, but not as prevalent as back when they were wearing the teal jerseys. Those were awful. Bwah. Some of the worst jersies in sports history
waggie Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 I too wouldnt mind seeing them keep the horse. It makes sense. @josh_j12 CFA- Fargo Bobcats
Cujo Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 I never have minded the horse. I think it gives them more of an identity. What I did mind was the hideous WNBA-like color combo they used in the late 90s.
waggie Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 yeah I'm not talkin about those colors, when they recolored it onto red and blue, it looks slick as hell. @josh_j12 CFA- Fargo Bobcats
FiddySicks Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 The new pistons logo with the horse head on the basketball just screams Mavericks to me. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.)
the_cynic Posted May 24, 2005 Posted May 24, 2005 Who ever came up with those colors was smokin' something. Utah Jazz Retired Number's#1 - Frank Layden - #7 Pete Maravich - #12 John Stockton - #14 Jeff Hornacek - #35 Darrell Griffith - #53 Mark EatonRetired Number's To Come#00 The Bear (Best Mascot In NBA) - #4 Adrian Dantley - #32 Karl "The Mailman" Malone
sj32 Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 Who ever came up with those colors was smokin' something. He was reading merchandise sales reports. Teal was the wonder color of the early 90's. The San Jose Sharks were at or near the top in NHL sales. Expansion teams like the Florida Marlins and the Jacksonville Jaguars started with teal as their primary color. While the Sharks have kept teal as their primary color, the Marlins and Jags have gone to the wonder color of the late 90's - black. The Pistons went back to their roots - the Marlins and Jags didn't have roots so they went with the latest color of the day (although black was a secondary color for both).
