TruColor
Despite being an LA Express fan (pre Steve Young even), I've got to go with the Michigan Panthers on this one.Someone in the CCSLC put together an absolutely devastating series of "turn the clock forward" logos for USFL teams, pondering what their logos would look like today. Sadly I don't recall who did it, and even more sadly the work was left incomplete... It was Nitroseed. They were incredible (as always from that guy)... tulanebc
Have we all forgotten the clean elegance of the Breakers??? KICK ASS logo......nice and flowing....good color combinations....rarely used color combos for pro sports.....that's top of my list by far... If you inherit Randy Johnson's facial genes, he owes you $97,000 at the very least.

This isn't about logo, but uniform though - and Boston/New Orleans/Portland's were a plain Jane next to Michigan's beauties.
tulanebc
I gotcha Mad......I was just throwing in my support for blandness and monotony...hahaha...champagne is kind of an off color that's never been used except by the Panthers........hmmmmmm....wonder what the Saints would look like with champagne instead of 3 shades of gold......but check out my other post with my Cardinals concepts in it......I have a Breakers concept there too.... Blue Falcon
Hmmm, a Turn Ahead the Clock for the USFL...I think the only changes would have been minor, except maybe there would have been fewer silver/red uniforms. Here's what I would have liked to have seen the USFL do:Arizona Wranglers: use 1983 uniform but with gold pants from '84 uni.Birmingham Stallion: no change except gold pants with white jerseyBoston Breakers: blue facemaskChicago Blitz: 1983 uniform w/ blue facemaskDenver Gold: 1983-84 uniformHouston Gamblers: red facemaskJacksonville Bulls: no changeLos Angeles Express: no changeMemphis Showboats: complete logo/uniform/color change!! I hate these unis!!Michigan Panthers: no changeNew Jersey Generals: red pants w/ white jerseyOakland Invaders: 1983-84 uniformOklahoma Outlaws: 1985 uniformPhiladelphia Stars: darken the red to burgundy, with burgundy facemaskPittsburgh Maulers: orange facemaskSan Antonio Gunslingers: complete logo/uniform change, colors OKTampa Bay Bandits: black facemaskWashington Federals: 1984 uniform w/ green pants with white jersey
otherwilds
The Breakers and the Panthers had by the two best helmet designs in the USFL. No one has topped those concepts yet
VitaminD
I went with the Invaders, mostly because of that sick logo with the thunderbolt in hand. I wish they had kept the gold pants. Arizona was a close 2nd with their 2nd uniform set.San Antonio was far and away the worst, with that scrawny gunslinger. They couldve done so much more with their look and colors, it's disapponting. Same with the team I followed, the Philadelphia Stars. The number font on that oursportcentral.com site isn't correct, right? That looks more like what the Broncos use now. Which makes me ask: what number font did the USFL use? I seem to remember it was all some sort of standard Block Varsity, and I don't remember teams coming with unique exotic fonts. But I'd be happily proven wrong if someone's got photographic proof... "Start spreading the news... They're leavin' today... Won't get to be a part of it... In old New York..."In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.
Sodboy13
Most of the teams had their unis supplied by Champion, so most used the standard Champion font (you know, full block, but with the curve to the 7 and the angle to the 2.) You may know it best at the font used for Boomer's Bengals and Flutie's BC Eagles. I think some teams (Arizona's '84 threads and Houston come to mind) used Sand-Knit instead, and I believe they just had a standard full block. But no, nothing out of the ordinary. In fact, from the '60s on, I don't know if any pro-level team, be it NFL, AFL, WFL, USFL, WLAF, or Arena, donned a non-block number font outside of the Bears. Specialized fonts didn't really make an appearance until '96 with the Ravens. My personal faves? Man, the USFL looked good as a league, so it's a tough call. I'll narrow it down to the '84 Blitz, the Panthers, the Bulls, and the Breakers. But as it's been said before in this thread, they were pretty much all winners, save for San Antonio's logo (but they still pulled off a good uni.) Spearhead
I voted for the Blitz. What I remember most about the Outlaws were their mesh pants. Little too much showing.
RyanB06
I, too, voted for '84 Blitz - that was the look I tried to replicate with my first uniform set for my MLF team - also, interestingly, the Chicago Blitz. That reminds me...good a time as any to break this bad boy out... (I'll probably be putting this in a new thread, no point in hijacking this one any further.) pooter
I liked and voted for the Tampa Bay Bandits. I liked the Bandit logo on the sleeve. The jerseys looked a whole lot like Ohio State's though. I have always wondered why that they picked red, black and silver for the colors. I thought, since Burt Reynolds of Smokey and the Bandit fame was a partial owner, it would have been a natural for them to use a black and gold scheme. I guess there were already too much black in use already. The USFL was way ahead of their time I guess with the black.
LogoFan
I have always loved the Nomads...I mean, Breaker's look. This league gave us a lot of good unis (but too much red!).1. Breakers: some may find them bland, but I loved their look.2. Bulls: their maroon jerseys with that bright orange and silver...wow. The sleeves were dynamite, with the logo.3. Panthers: I loved the color scheme, but I always felt the design needed some minor tweaking4. Wranglers: copper pants with the flame was really different5. Federals: liked the '83 look, very clean and professional; they ruined it with the silver over-kill in '84.possibly one of the worst looks of all time: Gunslingers. Top-to-bottom just horrible. And a black & white logo ripped-off from a local newspaper. Ugh. So cheap, the writing was on the wall that their checks would start bouncing..... mustangdmg
Just out of curiousity....Do any of the USFL teams or the league still have the rights of their names? I mean, suppose the Cardinals decide to change the name to the Outlaws? Is it possible? The Arizona High School Helmet Project
Blue Falcon
I'm wondering if they still have rights to their logos as well...I would guess so otherwise their logos and unis would have shown up in a video game by now, wouldn't they?I wish someone would bring back a football game like Front Page Sports. You could customize the size of the league, so you could start your own 12- or 18-team USFL, a 10-team WLAF, or an 8-team CFL.
