Just to explain it, Loyola became Loyola Marymount when Loyola University and Marymount College, mens and womens universities sharing the same campus, formerly merged.

Except you left out the whole state of North Dakota.

North Dakota State University used to be called North Dakota Agricultural College.

The University of Mary was once Mary College.

Then there are NAIA teams, which may go NCAA Division II in the future. Dickinson State, Mayville State, Minot State and Valley City State were originally called Blah-blah-blah Normal, then Blah-Blah-Blah State Teachers College, then Blah-Blah-Blah State College, and now Blah-Blah-Blah State University.

Its D-3 but Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin has had 4 names.

First it was The Literary and Theological Institute of the Lutheran Church of the Far West.

Then it became Hillsboro College. I'm assuming at the time it was located in Hillsboro, Illinois.

Here's the interesting one. The school was moved to Springfield Illinois and was called Illinois State University.

It then moved to Carthage, Illinois where it adopted its current name. It moved again to its present location in the 1950s.

I can top that, pcgd. Missouri State University - my alma mater - is on its fifth name, dropping the "Southwest" finally on Aug. 28. Here's our name history:

Fourth District Normal School, 1905-1919

Southwest Missouri State Teachers College, 1919-1946

Southwest Missouri State College, 1946-1972

Southwest Missouri State University, 1972-2005

Missouri State University

This is - hopefully - the final name change for Missouri State. One thing's been the same...we're the Bears and we wear maroon and white.
